Yes I know, it could have led to a fire, and that would have totally sucked.
There's a huge problem here in Florida, probably most of the south too, copper is now a big money maker, people are stealing it from ACs all across the state, and selling it, like a pawn shop kind of thing. People's ACs are being destroyed by thieves breaking ACs to get and sell the copper inside. This is what they tried to do to my little box unit AC, there's like barely any copper in box units. Idiot cost me $400.
Craig, it ended up being that someone had tampered with my AC unit. They broke it from the outside, probably trying to see if it had copper to steal, and they punctured the freon hose.
It might be the cheap styrafoam they use as inslation inside the unit. Some times you might have to cut out the peice that is doing thaat. I think its a Fridgedaire?
Wow I would see if I could build a huge cage or something around that thing. :(

I think I have the same a/c. And it might be poor window installation. Otherwise I would think it is compressor.
