This movie was an insult to Wells. IMO "Things to come" 1936 version is the only movie of his that wasn't butchered for fear it'd inject something the controllers don't want in the GroupThink...
The only good thing about the movie was showing Samantha Mumba in that bead shirt and her singing:-)
@GreenGestalt though this movie was made by one of his grandsons(or some such) I have to agree with you, the Rod Taylor version is somewhat better(in the producing anxiety department) but still also lacking. This 2001 is a bunch of "communion world peace" crap, way to optimistic for us. Iloi are discribed at being unlike us Samantha Mumba is very like us, she would be a fellow time traveler, not an Iloi, they are weak and alien things.
@GreenGestalt I disagree. While the first Time Machine was a great movie, the newer film fleshed them out a bit and didn't overly villify the Morlocks.
Finally, as the great-great-grandson of HG Wells, I think the director of the new movie couldn't have made a better homage to the book than when he actually made the time traveller go further into the future. True, we didn't see the giant crabs or the massive sun, but it was a beautiful presentation all in all. Wells would have been proud.
The Time Machine without a doubt has the best musical soundtrack to it! The movie itself has a great story line with a question most of us ask ourselves in our everyday life. " WHAT IF? "
@joneselius Adiemus, X-Ray Dog, sometimes Cirque de Soleil, Dead Can Dance, Deep Forest, Bruno Coulais (for example Tambour Battant) or what about Nobuo Uematsu's The Promised Land? Although it saddens me horrifically, almost to the point of suicide, yes that is how sad it makes me, the Biblical book of Daniel says not all white people will die in the future though.
A passage says "God will judge the nations."
However it is strongly implied that their numbers will be drastically reduced.
I think Welles the younger, that is the great grandson of the famous author, stated that his great grandfather never meant the Eloi to be blonde, that was just hollywood racism of the time. Welles was in fact making a social commentary, that sooner or later western society would destroy itself. Eerily enough, at the end of the movie, the good professor sees what the world will be like if the Morlocks are not destroyed, sometimes I wonder if Welles was in fact disgusted with his own race.
I have always thought this movie was kinda scary, there was something very uncomfortable about the stone people and the horrific people underground that they feared everyday.
This uncomfortable feeling reaches its climax when you actually see the people being taken away and later end up as food.
when i here this song it gives me a cold chills, and i feel like crying, this is a beautiful world that god gave us, its to bad that we, mankind, are destroying it little by little, thanks for the song, its beautiful.
I like the this song because even though the world "as we know it" has baically gone, we see in The Time Machine that the world doesn't actually end. Life goes on and the people change but for the most part it isn't a bad thing.
It makes me happy too, actually I think it has a certain magic similar to the sort of happiness you feel when you're in love - that playful and tear-wrenching happiness.
I feel the pulls of time wanting me to go. Leaving things here as they may be.... I have to go or ill go insane...... The original , and yet the remake. made me think. We need to go when and where we feel ready and just need to do. .... Time is out there for us. when will we decide..? -UW
