Petrucci is my idol and my greatest influence when it comes to playing, but he obviously wasn't in best shape while doing this demos. Glasgow Kiss was pretty sloppy and so was the fast run in damage control :/ He's a human though ;)

It's a mixture of his distortion pedal and his tube overdrive on the amp head. Tubes sound very warm and colorful when they are overdriven, this what you are hearing mostly.

he uses the chromatic tuner on his live pedalboard, and he has a tremolo on his rack (i think that's the only pedal) but he has used lots of boss pedals in his live rig in the past. he uses them alot in the studio too.
