  • get your porn OUT OF HERE!

  • Part III of III

    @gldmj55

    I thank God that there are entrepreneurs out there who create jobs for people, such as myself, so I can work and afford to live in moderate comfort.

  • I suppose so, that is, if you consider "progress" as having the technology and capacity to wipe out peaceful civilizations. I'm not communist, though. I'm a capitalist who just acknowledges the free market to be a technological tool, one that is neither compassionate nor humanitarian because it uses competition to get people to "work harder." And as far as having the most freedom, what good is the free market if there isn't equal opportunity (I think we are heading in the right direction here)?

  • The native Americans were anything but peaceful. They had their own wars and even tortured their enemies. If the native American tribes were so peaceful, then why did they fight?

    Christ didn't fight - even after He was ridiculed, tortured and crucified. Now _that_ is peaceful.

    I say we are all human and want the same things. Communists want capitalism to end. Why? So _they_ can have the power.

  • Well now you're getting into tribal politics, which is different than the imperialism of capitalist nations. But I'll concede the point that neither was more peaceful than the other. And I agree, it's all about having power. So far it looks like the capitalists have won.

  • China took over Taiwan after Mao killed 3 million of his own people.

    Russia collapsed due to economic malfeasance on top of having a heavy duty Siberia summer camp.

    Fidel Castro made Cuba a paradise on earth... and killed 30,000 of his own people.

    America? Runs to save 3rd world countries from disasters, saves countries from socialist dictators (Remember Hitler?), is active in world peace negotiations (Carter, Reagan, Bush).

    And the world calls us evil.

    To which I say: your welcome?

  • None of those dictatorships (key word) came even close to communism. If you're just reinforcing the point that people are drawn to power, then again I agree. But hey, if you're gonna compare our humanitarian qualities with other nations of the past, why stop at the 20th century? The triangular slave trade was a primary reason we grew so fast as a capitalist nation. It's only fair we started to give back. Those countries you mention were just trying to catch up using their own nefarious means.

  • Racism - our greatest failure. But I remember this - a man of color from Jamaica told me that he saw America as the only nation trying to end racism.

    I agree, the communism on paper is not the "communism" created by those Government States. But that proves the point - communism looks great on paper. In reality it isn't a viable system. In my opinion it conflicts with our very human nature to want our freedoms.

    Individuals, nations, the world = this in common - maturing as they grow up.

  • American history is a story of Genocide, greed, and exploitation. It became a liberal and free society when the workers started fighting back.

  • Nobody's perfect.

    Also, why is the world clamoring to get into America and not "communist" Russia, "communist" China, and "communist" Cuba? Weird huh?

  • we are not a sanctuary nation anymore. We're getting a lot of Mexicans coming in cuz Nafta destroyed their homeland. Not because they love American freedom.

    we're a corporatist nation. thats worse then Communism. Only way we'll be able to go back to being a free market capitalist nation is by making corporate power grab buy outs illegal.

    the Congress never will do this because big business is where they get all of their campaign finances.

  • weird huh...

  • Part II of III

    @gldmj55

    I think that the bottom line is not communism or capitalism, it's how do humans act? IMO we want our freedoms (this is why the world is coming to America - for the most part they hate America - but they want their freedom. And this is the only place that exists which has so much freedom in the world.)

    Capital cannot thrive in a communist state. It is antithetical. So, wanting to be free, we are mandated toward capitalism.

  • citizen-power . us

  • ni4d . us

  • Gravel wants to take on the military-industrial complex. I support that cause.

    It's just that the MIC is all about big corporations and capitalism, and has nothing to do with communism. In fact it is the political Left (not the Democratic party) that always has been and still is opposing corporate rule.

  • the MIC is NOT capitalism friend. it's corporatism at its absolute worst. Corporatism IS communism. Capitalism is Americas founding way but we've lost our right to self governance and self reliance and now we're trapped under a corporate dictatorship.

  • corporatism = communism?

    Every dictionary and political analysis disagrees with you.

    corporatism = fascism

    communism = stateless, classless society, where wealth is shared.

    So yes that means practically there's been no communism in modern history, in spite of the fact that several governments have been called communist.

  • corporatism = centralyzed wealth

    communism = centralyzed wealth..

    but you're right they're not exactly the same

    CORPORATISM is a hell of a lot WORSE! atleast the commies don't demonize the people they put on welfare. Here they kill small business make everyone work at corp. walmart and then call them failures. so no its not exactly the same but its the same motive. Keep the little man down.

  • "communism = centralyzed wealth.."

    That's what capitalists say about communism, it's not what the Communist Manifesto says.

  • the communist manifesto is a philosophical book. Its not a constitution.

  • "the communist manifesto is a philosophical book"

    dictionary:

    manifesto = "a public declaration of intent or policy issued by a group of people, for instance by a political party."

    from Communist Manifesto:

    "It is high time that Communists should openly ...publish their views, their aims...and meet this nursery tale of the Spectre of Communism with a manifesto of the party itself.

    To this end, Communists of various nationalities have assembled in London and sketched the following manifesto"

  • "corporatism = centralyzed wealth

    communism = centralyzed wealth"

    Except under corporatism that wealth remains centralized and is never equally shared among the populous. Either you overlooked or are purposely fudging what these political philosophies mean. Communism will never work until people stop perceiving private property to be some sort of "sacred right" -- despite man evolving as a social, noncompetitive species. Society won't change until people's interpretation of the world does.

  • PART I of II

    @gldmj55

    I like your post and it inspired me to make this comment:

    capitalism = centralized wealth distributed work

    communism = centralized power no work

    Also, not having a sense of property is what the Native Americans had ... there was no progress in all the years they and Europe were developing. Thus the Europeans came and ran over them like a freight train.

  • Hear! Hear! When Republicans are in the wrong, they're misinterpreting the Constitution. When the US is in the wrong, it has strayed from the ways of the founders. When Christians are in the wrong, they've turned a blind eye to the word of Christ. But when Communists are in the wrong, they show the true face of Communism.

  • "Hear! Hear!"

    I have to ask: are you agreeing with me? Because i don't agree with you.

  • I am agreeing with you, and, bar your last statement, your messages seem to be agreeing with me too. But if you don't think so, and you feel like explaining yourself, please do.

  • ugh. the constitution is NOT the ten commandments. its very conception is written so that it may be AMENDED as progress occurs.

    Its not written in stone. Its not a dictatorial document. it's mearly stating the demands of the People.

    And if corporatism isn't centralized wealth then how come Wal Mart is in EVERY town and gets more tax incentives and welfare then the entire civilian population combined?

    honestly..

  • That's all well and good, but i don't see what it has to do with what i wrote. What i was trying to convey is the notion that people, who say they're acting in the name of some ideaology, aren't necessarily doing so. Interestingly, i often see comments that apply this truism selectively to certain ideaologies (e.g. Republicanism) but not to others (e.g. Communism).

  • I think this is in line with your statement: "So yes that means practically there's been no communism in modern history, in spite of the fact that several governments have been called communist."

  • "But when Communists are in the wrong, they show the true face of Communism."

    I do not agree with that. I think when communists are in the wrong, it is because they are not really communists (especially political leaders).

    It's kindof like how democracy in the West isn't really democracy, and arguably capitalism isn't really capitalism (as some intend it to be).

  • I agree completely. The sentence you quote was intended to be interpreted sarcastically. I was trying to demonstrate the faulty reasoning of a hypocritical mind that is prejudiced against Communism.

  • "The sentence you quote was intended to be interpreted sarcastically."

    I'm glad we got that sorted out :)

  • "I am agreeing with you...bar your last statement"

    so you agree that:

    corporatism = fascism

    and

    communism = stateless, classless society, where wealth is shared.

    My last statement is an expansion on my 2nd point:

    In spite of the fact that certain governments have been/are called "communist" (by themselves and/or by others), in modern history there have been/are virtually no stateless and classless societies where wealth was/is shared. In other words: no real communism.

  • wealth is hardly shared in communist countries. thats the idea but thats not the practice.

    what we have in this "modern world" is elites and peasants. Only country where people have control over their own country is Switzerland. And they're all filthy rich.

  • "wealth is hardly shared in communist countries. thats the idea but thats not the practice."

    That's my point;

    If the core idea of communism is not put to practice, why call it communism?

  • It's such a shame that Americans didn't get to know Mr. Gravel. I still talk to people about him and the National Initiative. Most people know of him but some people still ask me who is Mike Gravel...mass media sucks. My TV went to the thrift store years ago. I wish more people would put their TV to sleep instead of themselves.

  • the shame is people thinking the we've lost the fight when truth be told the fight has just begun.

  • ni4d . us

  • This is as pointless as Gravel's rock-in-the-lake commercial. I never get these clips. I like the end, though. "Fight to free the world" and "soldiers in the name of democracy", beautiful picture of militarism and collectivism.
