  • great video thanks

  • damn, im too dumb to understand

  • I watched this with the Twilight theme song playing over and over and over again in the background

  • Shorty before his death, it has been claimed that Ayer confided to his attending physician, Dr. Jeremy George: "I saw a Divine Being. I'm afraid I'm going to have to revise all my books and opinions."

  • @djs259 Yes, he also confided to me, his friend, that he saw a flying spaghetti monster which will render all his previous books and opinions null.

  • What a great man.

  • "I suppose the most important [defect]...was that nearly all of it was false." - Ayer on Logical Positivism in 2003. :P

  • @drinkthesoupnow

I believe Ayer died in 1989...

  • @drinkthesoupnow uh, so? Doesn't change the fact that he was a great philosopher. :)

  • The presenter is an absolute joy imo. Very sharp and asks great questions. Presenters today could learn from this; all television about science or philosophy is nowadays is smart people being asked stupid questions by stupid presenters.

  • @Stygian9 So true. Also, they tend to focuse on what cool stuff science can do. Like mythbusters. And "Awesome Machines" and whatever shit Discovery spits out of it's rotten mouth.

  • @Stygian9

lol there is no tv about science or philosophy these days. its all just big brother and soap operas

  • Ayer v. Mike Tyson

  • @ReduxRex Ayer and NDE

  • @ReduxRex : Tyson would have his metaphysical ears bitten off.

  • @Magnon001 It need only penetrate the human depths, give us undertanding of our own existence and experience.

  • Reminds me of a male Julia Kristeva, in both appearance and manner of articulation.

  • Ayer is the man

  • ayers pants are soooooo high

  • He never got over missing that penalty when he played for Leeds Utd against Sunderland in the FA cup.

Philosophy was his only comfort after that.

  • ok then take "Rational animals are animals".

  • ayer was a great philosopher and nice a guy

  • 5:14 - 5:22

How does Magee know what I'm thinking?!

  • Oh god... it's so good.

  • the world felt stupid after watching this "philosopher" speak. It's quite amazing how Frege is generally equally credited for moving logic ahead in "continental" philosophy as much as Husserl while the analytic tradition out of some sort of extremism which has no place in philosophy is incapable of reciprocating, despite Frege's own own views on this.

  • Ayer gets excited. It's cute.

  • Tautology, in logic, is a statement that is always true

    also

Tautology, in language, is usually a statement which is repetitive or self-explanatory in a way

  • tautology: All bachelors are unmarried men. It's a typical example. Can b found in many philosophy books. Hope they can initiate a new one.
