Good review, I managed to try a 6 pack of this when I was over in the States last month, thought it was very good, would get it again. Didn't see it in too many places though (was in NJ), no bars seemed to have it, only the one store I saw it in.
I can't believe they stopped selling this. I know it didn't appeal to the average Budweiser crowd, but I also never met anyone who didn't like the beer, either. This was one of my favorites. They pulled off the shelves in my area about two months ago. It's really a shame... I figure Natty Daddy is probably its replacement.
@jdub94ful Well, I did see in a store in New Orleans over the weekend. But, I think it probably is on its way out. Too bad, but did they ever really promote it that well?
@ronaldtheriot I don't think they did, personally. I know they showed commercials for it, but I never once saw one myself. Like I said, the people I know who tried it liked it, but there also weren't too many people I know who had even heard of it. I never saw any special advertising for it, nor did I see it at any restaurants.
The first thing I thought of when I tasted this beer was a George Killian's. Of course, after a few of them I started to pick up on the differences. I would say that this was probably inspired by a Killian's, though. This is a favorite of mine.
@jdub94ful Yes, that's a good point. But, I find some definite differences between the two. Maybe, I prefer Killian's, but I'd have to compare 'em side to side to be sure.
Budweiser American Ale is a good beer. You're right, when it first came out the ads were frequent. The first time I tried it was on draft. Like most beers it was better on draft than in the bottle, but it's still good in bottles. At a gas station near where I live, a six pack is actually cheaper than a six pack of Budweiser with neither on sale, so I'm not sure what to make of that. Either that is a mistake on the part of the retailer or Anheuser Busch is looking to discount this....
@dbraz45 I think it's just a situation where this particular beer is dying. I wouldn't be shocked if it was quietly phased out. Some things catch on and some don't. You know how it is.
