we run a small business-and have often found liberals to be poorly responsive to bonuses and in fact dissatisfied with people around them after a few years. There is no one answer for all people-some are well motivated by bonuses-others,esp those with a neg association to providing for their family-run from money. Some basically want to be in a provider role and others want to stay in a dependant role-
@lillatmd Your partisan biases will prevent you from ever truly understanding the people around you. You do have to choose between your blatant prejudices (they are PREjudgments) or opening yourself to the truth.
@lillatmd No one thinks his or her biases are real. Everyone thinks they are the product of experience. Further, some extend this logic, as you appear to extend yours, to believing that if the experiential data is right then the statistical discrimination that follows is morally justifiable, as well. (But even that deduction is false.) See the Harvard Implicit Bias project. Everyone -- even a teacher of decision making and judgment such as myself -- have biases. Better to know.
@aeiou99999 I don't care to live by YOUR prejudices or beliefs and would not expect you to live by mine, Run your business your own way and if you haven't run one-try it and come out of the classroom. I believe in freedom for all and self responsibility ...except in the RARE case of total calamity.
Fascinating - I worked for a company in Bath that had a great work ethos, then they started paying economists to drive us into the ground with silly bonuses and they became obsessed with screwing anyone over for profit. Staff left, their partners left and the company eventually closed. From a company that was built partly on helping people after car accidents, the directors probably left with great money, but it became self-destructive in the end.
@grantha Any interest in being interviewed for a chapter in a book I am writing on motivation? The volume is to be called The Psychology of Business. Let me know; I could afford any level of confidentiality you wish.
The only way to have sustainable prosperity is to eliminate property and all forms of differential advantage.
We must create sustainable ABUNDANCE of consumables (like food, water, energy) and universal ACCESS to everything else (like transportation, information, etc.)

No one scheme here is going to work for all.

@dontblockmedk This is most assuredly NOT an implication of the research being described by Pink.

@a WRONG. This is exactly the IMPLICATION of Pink's research.
"Free market" is ROOT of problems, how do we:
1. stop corruption caused by profit motive?
2. ensure everyone has minimum necessities?
ANSWER
1. FREELY Share ALL resources & knowledge worldwide, NO more money/property
2. Use LATEST technology to create an ABUNDANCE of all our needs, NO more waste/theft
3. Automate/localize ALL production and distribution, NO more central control/wage slavery
