I've seen Cats 4 times (twice in USA, once in Canada, once in London) with different actors for each performance, and these guys never cease to amaze me the most! A very simple one, but yes. Once a year the "jellicle" cats gather to choose who will be reborn in another life. Each cat shows off their qualities hoping to be chosen. A lot of stuff happens during the gathering. In the end, an old she-cat, Grizabella, who's shunned by the others cuz of the crazy stuff she did when young, begs for an opportunity to expose her case and is eventually pardoned by all and chosen to be reborn.

Like I said, a simple plot. But to me it's the songs that matter.

@IreneHarlech: I'd have to disagree with chrissi2810, unfortunately. You see, the entire play is just a series of poems by T.S. Eliot (which were about cats, go figure), so it's more of an experience than a plot. Each song is a poem, and a character sketch of a cat. There are some events that are a tied together, but no real protagonist, antagonist, conflict that overarches the entire story. It's just a sketch of kitties with personalities.
