i saw the very first one on the dvd. But frankly that whole first episode of snl was so horrible - the one with george Carlin hosting - I never watched it again.
But yeah, something about the monsters wife getting her period.
Have you ever seen any of the Muppet "Land Of Gorch" skits from the very first season of Saturday Night Live? They're even more adult than these commercials!
Does anyone have any copies of the full length commercials the muppets did for a local Illinois Dairy for KRAML Milk ? I'm pretty sure Rowlf was in them.
This was actually a 1965 "sales reel", produced by Henson for LaChoy (and corporate parent Beatrice Foods) executives, demonstrating how the "LaChoy Dragon" was going to sell their product during 1965-'66, with examples of several one minute color commercials at the end.
Yah, I know :D Rowlf was huge, and at the time Kermit wasn't a frog, but a lizard prone to misfortune. He was always the victim of circumstance. And sorta still was as a frog emcee, too!;D
Yeah I knew of the "lizard thing" part but it slipped my mind when I wrote that part. It just seemed silly that Rowlf was the star while Kermit felt more like a bit player from the montage...sure bigger than others since he made it to this point in the 60s but really didn't show off his later personality outside a couple sketches at this point.
Now I know why they do those la choy commercial with real fire. It dangerous!

The rocket explosion in this is taken from an Oscar-nominated short film ("Time Piece") that Henson had done the year before.

I never knew the Muppets did mature humor. I had always remembered them for sesame street, fraggle rock etc..

I had the honor to see Jane Henson Speak at the RISD not long after the death of her husband Jim.
This is one of the things that she showed us along with a lot of footage from the early days.

Well remember: he was a star and the frog...was just monster food to America. :p (well that's how the montage made Kermit look)
