the special bolts that that tighten the square bars to the crossbars, do that secured enough so it wont get unscrewed by someone else?

@Reikobaby If you visit etrailer(dot)com, there is a locking cylinder available for this bike rack (part number: TH588) that will allow you to lock the bikes to the carrier and the carrier to the roof rack, which will be an excellent theft deterrent for this bike rack.
