GM ruined themselves when they discontinued the EV-1. They would compete with Toyota today in the hybrid race if they wasn't catering to the oil companies.
I remember when the EV-1 was on display at Disney World, back in 1997. It was a NICE car, inside and out. I got to sit in it and "drive" it on the dyno. Everything was off the shelf technology and could have easily gone into mass production.
Contrary to GM's claims, there was a BIG demand for the EV-1. Selected leases were given and every one wanted to buy it after the lease was up. But, GM took all the cars back, crushed them, and destroyed the tooling without any credible explanation.

GM failing is no surprise to me. They focused on making the quick profit. Toyota and Honda focused on innovation and the consumer. How many times must American companies be taught this lesson. Apple is probably the only American company that has this concept down and is very successful. The most heartbreaking in all of this is that the common people are hurt. The common people need to start thinking and hold leaders (both corporate and govt) accountable.
Now if Toyota and Honda could just build a car that would last 15-20 years they would be perfect. Any Japanese car that old is rarity, at least where Im from. Around here they have usually been hauled to the junk yard by then.
I didnt say Japanese cars were junk. Im talking about longevity. Go to any large parking lot and count all the vehicles that are 20+ years old and youll see what I mean. Very common to see Detroit products that old or older; rare to find an Asian car the same age. They run great but just dont last.
Where I'm from, New England, I rarely see cars older than 15 years. And if they're around that mark they're generally hondas. I don't think any car company has achieved a +10 longevity of the car consistently

[1] I say FUCK GM! They could have had the whole all-electric car market way back in the 1990s with their introduction of the EV1. They got greedy and figured that they would lose money in the aftermarket parts market due to electric cars really not having parts that wear out (at least wear out for a good long time), especially all the parts that have to do with the combustion system (i.e. no engine parts, no exhaust system). Electric cars use an electric motor like in fans, table saws, etc.
[2] And electric motors are VERY energy efficient! A truly green vehicle! The EV1 had a plastic body shell, so really the cars would last practically forever! Just the batteries would need to be changed. So again, a very Green vehicle that would not impact the Earth much at all!
[3] Why has Man not embraced green, sustainable technology so that he doesn't destroy the only habitable planet we know of? Simple Greed! Man is too damn greedy for his own good. I remember when the EV-1 was on display at Disney World, back in 1997. It was a NICE car, inside and out. I got to sit in it and "drive" it on the dyno. Everything was off the shelf technology and could have easily gone into mass production.
Contrary to GM's claims, there was a BIG demand for the EV-1. Selected leases were given and every one wanted to buy it after the lease was up. But, GM took all the cars back, crushed them, and destroyed the tooling without any credible explanation.

not only that, the union that try to protect the benefit for those workers also play a very big part. you have to know if the company is making lot of money, to give you better benefit is fine, as long as it can afford, but the problem is, GM is not in good shape but yet it has to take care of those benefits as well as those that has retired. Even new GM come back up, with this benefit stay the same, i doubt the reborn GM able to survive.

GM failing is no surprise to me. They focused on making the quick profit. Toyota and Honda focused on innovation and the consumer. How many times must American companies be taught this lesson. Apple is probably the only American company that has this concept down and is very successful. The most heartbreaking in all of this is that the common people are hurt. The common people need to start thinking and hold leaders (both corporate and govt) accountable.

I didnt say Japanese cars were junk. Im talking about longevity. Go to any large parking lot and count all the vehicles that are 20+ years old and youll see what I mean. Very common to see Detroit products that old or older; rare to find an Asian car the same age. They run great but just dont last.

Where I'm from, New England, I rarely see cars older than 15 years. And if they're around that mark they're generally hondas. I don't think any car company has achieved a +10 longevity of the car consistently
But are you talking about average cars or sports cars people may have an affinity for and want to keep running?
You'd also have to take into account what kind of extensive repairs they'd have to go through. My 11 year old civic never need anything more than routine oil changes.

Unfortunately, there are too many who do not share my passion for American vehicles. Auto industry should turn into a public transporation system. Massic public transportation. Trains, trolley trains and clean energy buses. Solar energy and wind energy could power the trains. San Diego has a good public transportation and hopefully the rest of the country will catch up to San Diego's level. Still we have too many highways and some could be turned into trains to travel all over california and maybe all over the US. Europe has good public trans it's what i've heard.

[1] I say FUCK GM! They could have had the whole all-electric car market way back in the 1990s with their introduction of the EV1. They got greedy and figured that they would lose money in the aftermarket parts market due to electric cars really not having parts that wear out (at least wear out for a good long time), especially all the parts that have to do with the combustion system (i.e. no engine parts, no exhaust system). Electric cars use an electric motor like in fans, table saws, etc.

GM also pretty much killed public transport in the USA. Time for them to die. They suck, and in their zombie existence they will suck even harder, knowing that their losses will be absorbed by the State/People and their gains ready to be harvested by the corrupt management.

GM pushed San Francisco to kill their clean, quiet, non-polluting electrically-powered trolleys in favor of GM's dirty, noisy, gasoline or diesel-powered buses. Tell me these corporate fuckers, that run the world, don't put profit above all other concerns. When the world becomes trashed (as in the movie WALL-E) do you think the few that are left are really going to move to a huge luxury space cruise ship in the sky?

Weather or not we are cooling is not the issue. The fact of the matter is that the Co2 levels on this planet are rising astronomically and if you honestly think it's a big hoax to IMPLIMENT A TAX, I seriously pity you. I once again urge you all to exercise some critical thinking. Not only is it logistically IMPOSSIBLE to enforce a global tax, its simply outlandish.

This is getting more ridiculous by the day. How can our Presidency take direct control over GM, and still keep them in business? I mean, GM lost revenue and can be out of business because they were not selling accordingly to consumers. Who want's to buy gasoline cars where people are more interested in the hybrids. I prefer to look into the Sterling Steam Engine Technology and Nanoflower Technology. Google these terms if you want.
