  • Goddamit... You can sell Linux, people don't make viruses for Linux not because it's free but because its market share is too small to bother with, Linux does not come ready out of the box (most of the distributions do not come with popular codecs), and Microsoft does not offer paid PC repair services!!! You barely even know what you are talking about...

  • hv no patience to hear wt u r saying dude!!!!

    upload an attractive video....

  • you ar so boring dude , fix theat problem imidieatli ! you will thx me later and good job whit this linux

  • Your voice is awesome.

  • It's not illegal to sell copies of GNU/Linux.

  • I used to be a windows user .. But then I took a virus in the BIOS ..

  • @Rigardoful keke :P

  • Wow, what is with the hostility towards Linux. Have the people hostile to it actually used it? It is the predominant OS used on servers, and is becoming more common on desktops. It is in all types of devices. OSX and android systems are based on it. The government of Spain has almost entirely switched to Linux saving their citizens from paying licensing fees. They even have their own distribution. It isn't just for nerds at command prompts. My dad uses it with no problem and he can't even type.

  • @howboutthisname I should clarify that it is a region of Spain I was referring to.

  • @ the people who critic nerds: Yould would not have a computer without us!

  • Does linux work with windows and/or mac programs? Because it would be weird if you couldn't get any programs.

  • @coolbrotherf127 WINE will run many native Windows binaries under Linux.

  • @coolbrotherf127 there are many open source programs for linux.

  • @Xaahu Or VirtualBox if no other way .. xP

    Just run windows in Linux.

  • It's free and you can't sell it..REALLY? THIS IS NEWS TO ME. Next time type it out or better yet don't make more videos, this was a terrible review of linux, i learned nothing.

  • @Proxymated no u can sell it if u want.

  • comes with a calender, WOW. I'm gonna use Linux now.

by the way, I mean this in a friendly/jokey way.

  • Viruses for windoze are always written by linux users...special gift, no gratitude required :)

  • Oh, there's WAY more than just 8 advantages to running Linux!

  • Well, Linux can do basically anything. Just dual boot windows for explicitly gaming and you'd be fine.

  • i bet some idiot is sitting in their chair wondering what the hell lin-penguin-x is.

  • Allow me to interject: What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it.

  • Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.

  • The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

  • @BattlePikeQueerLucy hahaha.. idiot.. hardly anyone can work with computers today.. so everyone is a Nerd.. -_- Whats about Mac? are mac guys all arrogant? are they all hiphoppers? only because some geeks are like your discribtion you mean everyone is so.. fuckin rassist!

  • @Spid3rbyteZ LOL, what a retard. Nerds are socially inept, and in the case of Lunix idiots, imagine them as 30 year old jobless loses who spend 12-15 hours a day sitting on their LiEnucks box changing distribution every 5 hours and coding on the terminal.

Normal people use computers as a tool to get work done, nerds use it as a fully time hobby.

  • @BattlePikeQueerLucy lol nice faggotry behavior...

  • @BattlePikeQueerLucy if somebody is happy with it, why not?

  • @BattlePikeQueerLucy you didnt have to describe ur life to all of us.

  • @Xaahu Aw, another mad Lunix nerd? LMAO.

  • @BattlePikeQueerLucy cool story bro. does it look like i care? :D

  • @Xaahu Care enough to reply back. LOL. I win.

  • @BattlePikeQueerLucy sure. tell ur dad that and and he'll give u a handjob. and if ur lucky he might even give it a little kiss.

  • @Xaahu Aw, is that all you got, try harder. LOL.

  • @BattlePikeQueerLucy is "LOL" everything u got? poor fag. i feel sorry for ya,

  • @Xaahu LOL, u mad?

  • @BattlePikeQueerLucy aa the fail comeback every loser kid uses these days. :\

  • @Xaahu You still nerd raging? What a faggot. LOL.

  • @BattlePikeQueerLucy wow u must be a lonely fag. :\

  • @Xaahu Haha, you still haven't come out of the closed? Suck a dick.

  • @BattlePikeQueerLucy *closet

    LOL

  • @BattlePikeQueerLucy yeah u do that.

  • @Xaahu I saw you doing it. LOL.

  • @BattlePikeQueerLucy right. as if u'll be that lucky.

  • @Xaahu LOL

  • So is it like mac where you cant download most files used in windows 7 like .exe's and shit

  • can somebody explain how I got from "people falling over" to "deal or no deal fails" to "Bill o' Reilly v.s. Richard Dawkins" to here?

  • Used Ubuntu since it started. I wouldnt use Winders again - 'tho W7 is not that bad. The Linux downside was the very steep and frustrating learning curve where community helpers seemed to speak a totally different language. I'm learning to code now.

Most people just want their system to work and are not IT professionals (and have families and other jobs and professions to think about).

Ubuntu is now more user friendly than ever but it's been a haul! I'd even recommend it to my dad who is 87!

  • @mozgren I USED To be a Windows OS user, But Linux is more of a Challenge to me as a computer user.Just like you, I HATED IT at first But i gave it a chance & all the while, Linux was actually TEACHING ME on how to solve complex problems like finding a patch to make an Application work, asks Google or YouTube the much needed information. There are answers out there for EVERY problem computer-wise or Life-situations...you just have to look closely and ask the right questions & there'll be answers

  • @joel750

    Really, 100% same situation here

  • @NarekNitrogen

I know exactly how you feel Brother! :)

  • Correct me if I am wrong, but I think one advantage of linux is that having many distros based off linux is that since many of the distros are designed differently like arch and ubuntu for example, that it would be harder for a virus to affect both if one of them is built differently like ubuntu compared to arch if is not related to the kernel itself.

  • @BobK0025 it's VERRY ILEGAL TO SEL IT THAS HOW THE COMPENY SUN DIE

AND OPENSOURCE IS OPENSOURCE DONT MAKE IT CLOSSED

  • @enderossel - please check your facts. It is LEGAL to copy, sell, or give away most Linux distributions. Notice I did not say ALL linux software, some linux software is propretary and you cannot freely distribute that particular software. I refer you to the GPL license which governs most Linux software (not ALL linux software).

@scimath42 - I agree with your facts but the term "Linux" has become the defacto label for the GNU/Linux operating system despite RMS's demands.

  • Linux is made for VERY SMART computer users. The same applies when you use Mac OS-X for both use the very same UNIX code, so it's safe to say that Linux and Mac are First cousins. Microsoft Winblows on the other hand, are made for DUMBASSES & for computer users Who DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER and willing Slaves for Bill gates! PLUS,Computer Hackers USE Linux...anymore questions!? XD

  • @joel750 Some hackers use BSD unix.

  • @EvaldasGalactic

YES SIR!!! right you are! So if you use a Linux distro and you have been Enlightened by Linux, it's YOUR Duty now to wake everyone else and free them from ever using MicroSHIT WinBLOWS for you KNOW that other fellow computer users are Blind to the truth.Set them free like the rest of us Linux users for it's a sign of love and concern for your fellow men!

  • @joel750 The open source has one little problem - sometimes something does`nt work as it should be. For enthusiast like me it`s not problem i will check logs, read f*.. manuals, google for solutions, experiment. But not everyone has such patience. For business people computer should be powerful tool for job, not for solving bugs and other head ache. I am enthusiast of ubuntu, but i do not jump to the all latest versions. At this time am using and planing to use only LTS.

  • @EvaldasGalactic

Good for you @Evaldas Friend! You are correct when you said that Open Sources sometimes DOES NOT Work, Well depending also on WHAT KIND of Linux Distribution you are using. But that's the real beauty of of it, finding solutions is a Integral part of being a Linux OS user: Linux REQUIRES You as the user to have a Extremely High Learning Curve, meaning that you have to find the answers someway somehow w/c makes you MORE intelligent! Unlike MS Windows OS Users....

  • @EvaldasGalactic

MS Windows users are pretty much Lazy,Spoiled bunch that they want everything done for them w/o finding solutions to complex computer problems. Most Windows users use computers for basic things: emailing, Surfing the web, Internet shopping, paying bills on line and watching Porn. Linux users on the other hand, Use Linux for designing websites, Finding solutions to stabilizing computers in general and some...HACKING Windows users and spamming them!!! XD

  • @joel750 NOT the best advert for Linux - the Great Western Railway of this age.

  • @mozgren

Hey...I try, But i really don't have the Finesse nor skills being a Salesman! XD LMAO! You are Correct Tho...I'm not the best advert!

  • i loved linux so much then my bios update froze on ubuntu 10.10 so i got a new computer. back to windows

  • Well you said why Linux is better than Windows. But most of your arguments are also valid for Mac.

  • kk first thing: linux is not an os its a kernel just like darwin or mach, linux is absolutly useless unless its bundled in with all of the other software nessecairy to run a desktop environment or even a command line environment.

I'm a mac user and I'm not saying linux sucks because I use it each day on my PCs. I'm just correcting you :)

  • Do you lose windows when you download Linux? I plan of switching, asap, but if I fail, or make a mistake, do I have a safety net of sorts? Linux seems much more personal, but Windows 7 Premium is going to be expensive to replace.

  • @cpmc1 U can dual boot both linux and windows on the same machine, but yes u could lose windows if you screw it up. If your new to linux i suggest install virtualbox and try it out in that first

  • Why not just put the 8 reasons in text?

  • @iamanidiotbad

    .

He's a linux user, don't expect too much from him.

  • @ox141jf Linux is coming up quick in hardware driver support. More companies are starting to include Linux support for their hardware and even in special cases dedicating to it. There is hope for Linux as a desktop system but forever will it be a reliable server OS. Hang in there.

  • THE ONE REASON THAT ERADICATES THE USE OF LINUX FOR ANY SERIOUS USER?

DRIVERS LINUX HAS DRIVERS TO MAKE THINGS WORK, BUT IT HAS FEW AND THE DRIVERS IT HAS OFTEN DON'T WORK PROPERLY OR ARE INEFFICIENT AND SO YOUR HARDWARE MAY BE RENDERED USELESS AND BECAUSE OF THIS, IT MEANS:

no games because 1 they aren't made for linux but 2 you wont have the gfx drivers to run it.

2 Few popular software title because they just aren't made for linux 3 if something does go wrong a solution is hard to find

  • @FreeForAllGamerz look's like your pc is kinda crapy if it cant run linux. what version of windows do you use? win93?

  • Linux is an unstable, glitchy piece of shit. How would it be mire stable than windows or Mac if it's free you poor emptypocketed bastard

  • @Mboy311 I run Windows XP, Windows 7, and Linux. Of the 3 Linux is by far the most stable followed by XP then 7. Since I bought my newest laptop Windows 7 has crashed 3 times during updates. XP on my desktop has been running on the original install for over 3 years although I have had to repair it after a couple updates. Only had one crash with Linus in over a year of using it and that was my fault for doing something I didn't yet understand. Never boot into a GUI as root.

  • im a fedora 14 user and will stay that way for quite some time.. but again more facts make for better videos linux as a kernel is amazing and most distributions are great as well.. before i got into linux (i came from mac os x by the way) i researched a ton before i even touched linux (including command line stuff) and videos like this would probably do damage in making the decision to make the switch

  • and another thing quit trying to generalize every linux distribution as if they're all the same because for the most part they can be very different.. different amounts of knowledge that is needed to use them example ubuntu, mint and opensuse require very little but on the other hand arch, gentoo and/or slackware are more for advanced/power users..

  • this is a terrible video. if you want to convince people to "give linux a try" you should try and research some actual facts about its advantages and present them to non-linux users facts equal people wanting to use it..

  • 90% of computer viruses are made for windows, 9.999% of computer viruses are made for mac0.001% of computer viruses are made for linux and I own the only known copy of said virus and it needs you to be VERY gullible for it to actually damage your computer

  • You're just discussing Ubuntu, no other Linux distros and not GNU/Linux in general.

  • Comment removed

  • Just this afternoon, I backed up all of my documents, erased Windows 7, and installed Ubuntu Linux 11.10 (installed a workaround to use the former user interface instead of UNITY!), and I am already pleased.

The reason I did this is because I am getting a NEW PC for Christmas.

  • I also suggest you check the Ubuntu license, you are completely allowed to sell it but I doubt anyone will buy it from you.

  • It's not all Linux distros use the same install method as Ubuntu. You are generalizing.

  • "It's open-source, it's illegal to sell it"

    ...what? Not entirely true.

  • all my frustration and stresses while using a computer died when i switched to ubuntu.

  • Of course you can sell Linux. It depends on the license agreement. The only requirement for Linux is usually have to make available source code for your customers. If they are paying for it, they obviously don't care about the source code. You may also have to have them "read" the licence agreement, or at least give them an opportunity to. Just make sure you do not sell an OS with software bundled that prohibit such activity.

  • Ubuntu all the way :D

  • @Proj3c7thriteen Linux Mint is better, because Unity sucks bad.

  • @maw88ify unity is just a desktop environment its linux download another one or install kbuntu or install gnome3

  • @goochbuntu I liked Ubuntu until they put Unity on it. I also don't like KDE , or Gnome 3 ... I only like Gnome 2 , and sadly it's dead.

  • @maw88ify what you can install gnome on ubuntu you will get classic gnome 2 with it :P plus they have xbuntu but gnome2 is not dead yet

  • Okay I have a question. I have like 100gb worth of pictures music and important things on my computer and vista on my computer is acting up and irritating me so If I install Linux will I loose every thing or can I keep it?

  • @psu4662 no u wont trust me.

  • @psu4662 Yes you will.

  • @psu4662 if you are going to install linux just back up the files 100gb is nothing. they sell 1tb external hard drives that plug in USB, even 500gb drives. Alternatively to installing full install over windows, you can install Ubuntu Linux along-side with Windows, and just boot into Linux instead of Windows. It will maintain all your files but it's sort of a messy way to do it.

  • "It comes with a calander" what a strong argument... On my way to go and get Linux..NOT! :)

  • @Kwnstantwnis not thats a terrible argument. im a linux user fedora 14 to be exact.. and if you give it a chance im sure you'll love it too

  • hi im a mac

    and im a pc

but im a penguin your argument is invald

  • @MrLeo7210 AWESOME

  • It is ILLEGAL to sell? What for nonsense is that? Every read the GPL under which Linux is published? You can do anything with Linux including selling. But you have to provide the source code with it. If the presentation starts with this false statement, how should I account for the reliability of the rest of the presentation?

    jlinkels

  • @GordonFrohman20 It's not a story, but a true fact!

  • Let me clarify one thing, Unix based OS are incapable of getting viruses without user pemission (OSX, Linux) but the can get spyware, troyans, etc. And the few viruses for those were beaten and in fact were very weak.

  • @minitrue101 is that what you did? lol.

On a serious note, you didn't give any reasons why he feel that way about linux. Maybe you tried it a long time ago when it was still new. I am not saying Linux is perfect, it's far from perfect but it's no where near as bad as the way you put it.

  • @minitrue101 I suggest you learn how to use it, or actually USE it. It's free, it's awesome, and it dominated Windows by a longshot in all of the performance tests. Having a backup OS, or another OS for that matter, can help you SO much in clearing Windows viruses. It may be more complicated, but, it's definitely worth it.

I wouldn't ever replace Windows with Linux, for educational reasons, but, I have more runtime on Ubuntu than Windows now.

"It's more stable" - True, and faster..

    iLol'd

  • @minitrue101 have you ever used any linux distros? linux is for thinkers (read: people with higher IQ) and windows is for point-and-klick'ers (MS makes decision for you and it shows your smaller IQ). and think about all the gadgets in your home (unless you live in the cave or cage) even your android-phone is based on linux-kernel.

  • @DubMFstepify Nah. There are means of gauging intelligence independent of computer skills. Some people prefer to just stick with the tried n' true because they have other priorities.

  • i read in a book that there was a paranoidlinux but it was a fiction book so idk if that was made up? anyone know if theres a paranoidlinux?

  • @DaCrazyCousinzzzz It looks like it was a failed project, and never came to fruition. You are right in saying it was out of a fiction book. so I read that some nerds tried to make it an actual Distro :-)

  • @beefheartvliet ya the books called little brother by cory doctorow. They don't only try, they also succeed :P

  • an hour to install windows? daaaamn. I install it in about 15-20 min via USB Flashdrive

  • @RaiderzGuru yea same here

  • Wish I was smart enough to run linux :(

  • @1234doawee You dont need to be "smart" all you need to do is to get used to it.

  • very poorly explained!!

  • can you use steam on linux/ can you download any game on to linux as if it were windows?

  • @jj2997 Can you run any program on an OS to which it was not made?

  • @hitsassasian Linux can run any Windows game As long as it has the hardware and Wine.

  • @4werr0n3 Only audio and video files? You seem to be ignorant of everything else most Linux distros can do. Besides, I've never had to use the terminal on any of my Linux machines..

  • @scottishjon1 You've been lucky enough to have the chance to though! :D

  • What I'm trying to say is that, M$ makes $ because of its unfair marketing strategies.

  • @4werr0n3 Oh, and - MS OSes are designed to make it difficult for users to install a new operating system on their hard disks. For example, Vista generally complains if you repartition the hard drive. This leads a newbie that is trying to double-boot Win and Linux, to think that Linux is broken - while actually it is Win.

  • Look at my channel for a video I made, it's named "House Fire Made with Blender 3D" Vista couldn't cope with it.

It was the last straw when I found out Ubuntu unlocked my machines potential.

I encourage everyone to check out this video and read the story I put in the description.

Yes I made everything in the video.

  • who gives a flying f*** how long it takes to install the os when it's installed it's done nothing else i don't care how long it takes to install it can take a week i am only going to install it once in at least 2 or 3 years

  • Xubuntu is NOT based on Ubuntu, Xubuntu IS Ubuntu with Different packages installed by default.

  • monotone, static graphic... boring.. i fell asleep

  • Open Source -> Sending an error report will actually get shit.

  • I was surprcied that I could begin using my computer as soon as the menubar appeared...

  • @GisleAune I started up Ubuntu and as I popped up on the desktop I was going to do something else. Then I realized, I'm not using Vista anymore!

  • linux is used everywhere. from an automatic machemacial drill deep in the earth to spaceships in outer space. can windows 7 control a spaceship?

  • there r only 8000 linux viruses out there whereas for windows its more than 2 million viruses.....no exe,no batcg,no vbs can fuck up with linux

  • I thought the next to no viruses on linux was kind of like the bro code. Most of us are computer enthusiasts or hackers or programmers and it's just uncool to hack or infect your friends.

  • No way.......it comes with a built in calender?! I'm sold

  • If you use Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Flash, Java, ur instantly using open source :D

So all of u open source haters should stick to IE or Safari

  • @TeruMikami2345

Yeah in fact Mozilla is such a gr8 opensource company they dumped Firefox OpenGL support for Linux :)

BTW Opera is proprietary as is Flash.

  • @4werr0n3 whoops, lol

  • @4werr0n3 no opera is under the gnu licence, with exceptions in some parts of the code...

  • "You can't sell it" - Wrong. As long as you make changes to the code and ship the code to the person you sell it too and give them the right to change or distribute it under the same terms (this is the GPL)

  • 1) YOU

    2) DO

    3) NOT

    4) HAVE

    5) TO

    6) USE

    7) MICROSOFT

    8) WINDOWS

  • @commercialsaremywife you made a mistake, it's not windows, it's winsh*t

  • i've watched a few videos on why linux is so great and not one is convincing enough to get me to use linux. The only legit argument i can seem to find is that its more customizable. Sorry linux i think imma stick with ur older brother osx unless you can find a way to convince me otherwise.

  • i might not know lots bout comps so i just wanna ask somthin can you play games like battlefield bad comp 2 and like cod or half life 2 and gmod if you download linux on a macontosh? plz reply.

  • virus? Extinct? you mean rare. Why? not because its free....oh no! because hackers do not want to waste time on an os very few people use. if everyone started using linux then people would go around making viruses for that as well. God forbid my windows didnt come with an email client, clock and a calendar. having an awsome gui isnt the reason why an os is popular, its convinience, and that is why more people use maintream os. There will never come a day when linux will take over mainstream os.

  • Linux makes my laptop battery last longer :P

Plus I like getting all the latest updates and they don't take FOREVER.

  • Thanks,

great video, I agree with everything accept not being able to make money out of Linux,if the provider sticks to just open source binaries then it's harder but as far as I know on a Linux distro you can also add non open source binaries which might make you be able to sell it, although I don't agree with non open source binaries.(correct me if I'm wrong there please)

Appart from that companies like Red hat, Canonical... have other ways of raising money like server support packages.
