Being where Elvis Presley called "Promised Land," much rain is likely. We are fortunate to have expert hurricane weatherman here, two actually at same television station KHOU, CBS affiliate. One was expert forecastor at National Hurricane Center for many years and the other was expert forecastor at NASA for many years. I thank chrissyme for "sharing" this video.
I agree, if the track shifts east (landfall east of New Orleans) then they may get strong tropical storm conditions with hurricane force gusts, otherwise things should be generally okay, albeit with maybe some power outages.
yesterday i watched Gustav's coverage on WDSU, and i think they covered in a excessive and sensacionalist form, when all channels broadcasts their regular schedule, WDSU is the one and only who whas showing Hurricane information, with a newsticker is sufficient for me, but not to interrupt my NBC programming!
Ouch! this weather is so unpredictable!! we had a dry spell for two months now it pours and floods.

9 to 12 feet? More like over 20 feet likely.

Guess folks that migrated to Jackson MS may not be far enough based on this forecast :-))

The angle of approach will probably make them far enough inland and off the track to miss the bulk of the storm.

I agree, but the forecaster in this video had Jackson and vicinity in the "danger" zone. Hotels are already booked solid.
I suspect TS force winds will be experienced, and I don't see a inland hurricane warning being hoisted this far north unless the track shifts east.
