@lilshirochancookie I agree. God help those children in Africa! this was a gorgeous piece. I've always loved this song since I heard it in the musical and this gave it a fresh twist. I hope one day the children of Africa get the chance to have that kind of simple fun without the fear they likely have now. And in truth, that hope stretches to all nations. We may not see eye to eye, but for the children may we learn to tolerate each other.
@sarina76667 Indeed, beautifully said! I believe that we are all God's children, even though, as you say "We may not see eye to eye," everyone should all pitch in to help one another, especially when it's for the young kids of the world :D
A true piece of Africa and how much people there need hope to get by. Atleast hope to help them want to countinue on in theses times. God help those who need it most.
i love the metaphor represented by this video, as the song is about African freedom and the flying and releasing of the kites shows this :-) so very beautiful

@guillax that supposed to be part of the Fantasia 3000 animated Movie ;) But then this project was cancelled. And what we have now are three extracts: The Little matchbox girl, Destino (based on Disney/Dali works) and this one, which is real masterpiece :)
Pixote Hunt was the director on this short, I have been a fan of his work for a long time. Where is he, and does anyone know what he is doing now? His work is so very spiritual and beautiful, I hope to see more of his inspirational animated films like this one in the future. God bless you.
How did you get this if it was cancelled? Well however you did, I thank you for your hardwork, I just love Lebo M, he got me into African music and lion king too

Aside from great music and artwork, what a terrific metaphor for children taking inspiration the simplest of things and allowing creativity to build dreams in full color. Let them fly. Casting troubles to the wind and letting imaginations soar...and in the end, they freely returned the 'wings'/kites that gave them the most joy back to the sky so that the winds could carry them to others.
One by One, child by child, classroom by classroom, note by note...

I recently dug up the Disney album release of "Rhythm of the Pride Lands" cd that I've had for some years - someone gave it to my mother (or maybe she bought it somewhere, I don't know, but she loves music also), and I confiscated it a long time ago. The production of the cd is awesome!
Lala and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" are my favorite cuts. The arrangement of this cut is a lot better on the cd - with a slightly different version of lyrics - though I don't know any African dialects - the songs are all very moving and powerful! - If you can find it, BUY IT!!!
The most beautiful african song I've ever heard... I remember, I went to the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico city when this broadway show featured (the lion king musical). In the middle, they performed this very song, live, and all the audience was clapping the rythm... It was an incredible experience.. I cryed that time... How many amazing things can be achieved by the music.
There is another short like this one that Disney made called The Little Matchgirl. It's beautiful as well, though I should warn you not to expect anything happy (Disney actually sticks to the original story in this one)
Nowadays most of people think how to get MORE many!!!
They have ONLY the one purpose!!! which is PROFIT!
So, making FULLY 3D-animated films is the simple way to get a lot of money for NOTHING...........these films have no spirit........which have to have every cartoon film......
I get the impression that you're frustrated about the changes the cartoon industry made. Don't get me wrong.. I feel the same way. The idea that when I have children, they only can watch to 3D movies and not the beautiful drawwed onces they use to make (in the old days) makes me sad:(
Bec. 3D-Animation and Graphics IS NOT AN ART!.......and this is TRUTH !
A computer can't express our feelings......i really can't stand it......for example-"Bolt"-when i watched it (of course in cinema) i was pretty dissepointed.........
You can't judge CGI on Bolt. Bolt was ... how do I say this? Bad.
Look at Wall-E. The emotion and meaning in that work of cinema were completely flooring. It happened to be animated with computers instead of cell-by-cell, but the art form, in the end, is not what decides the merits of a film; it is the substance and significance of the story. The Lion King and Wall-E both possess timeless cultural and intellectual relevance, regardless of the method of animation used to bring them to life.
I don't think I quite understand your point.... Sure, there is a point in the CGI process when a character has no expression, but the animators are still what change that. Pixar never fails in making you feel for the characters and make them emote - those animators are just as dedicated as the ones that do traditional animation. I agree with aamarylliss - you can watch the low-technology stuff and it won't matter - Bambi STILL manages to make everyone cry.
Chip-I agree with you 100%. It's my opinion that the true art form of today's films have been lost. My company created an animated cat that will be use to teach small children how to play the harmonica and I want the cat animated, but in tradition. 3D and Graphics doesn't capture the spirit of the subject.
If you meant "take a drug", so the answer-i don't know about this at the moment of speaking, BUT i ABSOLUTELY SURE when i was 10 it WE HAD NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM!
Because we had no fucking computers, no fucking PSP, no fucking TV!
We had ONLY what we are! And spent all free times outside (in forests, in river etc)
I'm pretty darn sure the main kid in this short is a caricature of Lebo M, the lead singer of the song. :) Google a picture of him and you'll see what I mean!
And I couldn't say it any other way..... I think THIS is the perfect depiction of what childhood should be. :)
Pixote Hunt was the director on this short, I have been a fan of his work for a long time. Where is he, and does anyone know what he is doing now? His work is so very spiritual and beautiful, I hope to see more of his inspirational animated films like this one in the future. God bless you.

I get the impression that you're frustrated about the changes the cartoon industry made. Don't get me wrong.. I feel the same way. The idea that when I have children, they only can watch to 3D movies and not the beautiful drawwed onces they use to make (in the old days) makes me sad:(

YO!
I just explain why it makes you sad ^)
Bec. 3D-Animation and Graphics IS NOT AN ART!.......and this is TRUTH !
A computer can't express our feelings......i really can't stand it......for example-"Bolt"-when i watched it (of course in cinema) i was pretty dissepointed.........
ChipMaplewood 2 years ago
You can't judge CGI on Bolt. Bolt was ... how do I say this? Bad.
Look at Wall-E. The emotion and meaning in that work of cinema were completely flooring. It happened to be animated with computers instead of cell-by-cell, but the art form, in the end, is not what decides the merits of a film; it is the substance and significance of the story. The Lion King and Wall-E both possess timeless cultural and intellectual relevance, regardless of the method of animation used to bring them to life.

That's right, but using 3D-modeling is impossible to show feelings...

Dided?-what a hell is this word?
(what do you mean?)
But the time has changed...........

I'm pretty darn sure the main kid in this short is a caricature of Lebo M, the lead singer of the song. :) Google a picture of him and you'll see what I mean!
And I couldn't say it any other way..... I think THIS is the perfect depiction of what childhood should be. :)

THIS is what kids and preteens should be watching, not Hannah Montana or the Jonas Bros!
This clip is by far one of the most inspirational, beautifully animated shorts ever; kudos to Lebo M!

Pixote Hunt was the director on this short, I have been a fan of his work for a long time. Where is he, and does anyone know what he is doing now? His work is so very spiritual and beautiful, I hope to see more of his inspirational animated films like this one in the future. God bless you.
