People want to know what kind you listen to. Saying you listen to Sludge or Brutal Death gives the other a pretty solid idea of what you enjoy. This is how people find common interests with each other during ANY topic

If you say you like metal & listen to Slipknot, and the other listens to GISM, theres problems

Your entire logic against classification of music is pretty lame, to say the least. Music is far too broad to simply call it "rock", "metal", "hip hop", etc etc.

And for the record. Nu-Metal is extremely distinct from any other metal genre, and majority of metal fans don't even classify it as actual metal. It's a dumpster baby.

They draw on the most simplistic concepts of "song writing", and play extremely mediocre music with the lack of talent they possess. There's many more bands like this.

Millions of fans, but the acting is shoddy, the story line is piss poor, and the characters are nothing but blank slates.
