This game really isn't all that awful. All you have to do is navigate the elephant through the level. I wish you would give the game a 2nd chance now that you know how to play it because it actually is pretty fun. Aside from the fact the sound effects aren't particularly the best.
This is one of the best games sega made. this is what you do. press select and select the stairs. go on the edge of the box and hold c and let the stairs fall down. your goal is to bring the elephant from one side to the other. once the elephant climbs on your tail keep doing it until you reach the end. however you need to get him to drink the water and use the mouse to scare him towards the ring of fire so he can extinguish the ring. trust me after the first level the others ones are fun!
To the people saying he should have made stairs with his tail, that's totally illogical to someone who's never played this before. Imagine how painful it would be to have an elephant walking on your tail. Only the most sadistic game designers would dream up such a thing.

Similarly this video only has 4000 views because you're not funny, and just whine. He gripes about games that are ACTUALLY bad, not just games that he doesn't get how to play.

Come on man, whats this game.....5 +. I'd hate to have to see you play a next gen game if you cant even master this. It's clearly all about the elephant. He's interactable and he's in all the cut scenes. And when you pick up a item/ power up surely the first thing you do is figure out how to use it, i.e the stairs!

I actually had to stop watching this halfway through because of the scrolling. I'm glad that it did scroll since some games don't, but man my eyes hurt now.

That guy is Norman. This game was based on the cartoon series by Disney. Marsupilami is a crazy marsupial that lives in a jungle with his gorilla friend, Maurice.
The version you probably have is European, as I have the US game cartridge...and the level design here is very different than the one I have. The US version still does have the language select screen however.
When you have the stairs selected, you have to get on top of one of the boxes near the edge and then you can use the stairs. The elephant climbs the stairs (that's one really stranog tail) and you have to get the elephant to the end of the level.
Oh come on, the bird flying around with the "stairs" command over it's head wasn't enough of an indication to use the stairs to lead the elephant up the boxes? Honestly, you didn't even press the C button again after you switched to the stairs.
Unless for some reason the C button simply wasn't working on my gamepad, at the time I had pressed it twenty fuckbillion times. After I discovered the start menu of COURSE I suspected I was supposed to use those things, but it was not working for me.
If it was the gamepad or input settings' fault, we'll know by the next time I play a genesis rom.
Regardless, the crazy speed of the background scroll when I jumped was enough reason not to ever beat this game.

This game really isn't all that awful. All you have to do is navigate the elephant through the level. I wish you would give the game a 2nd chance now that you know how to play it because it actually is pretty fun. Aside from the fact the sound effects aren't particularly the best.
