This is absolutely by far my favorite song by Nightwish, I love Tarja singing it, but I honestly think Anette does it better. I love both artists and unfortunately, the debate between the two is going to continue because each person has their own preference. Me, I think that both Tarja and Anette have songs they sing better than the other (speaking about the old songs as the newer songs cannot be compared).

I won't say Anette is bad or something, just Tarja suits much better Nightwish on all songs before DPP. This is the perfect example. Tarja sings Ever Dream much better than Anette, and I'm sure she sings much better all her songs she sings with the band before they change for Anette.

I think she does it well, but she never reached The quality of Tarja's voice. This will provide almost no one! Nevertheless, Nightwish with Anette has taken a good choice. The whole thing's been a 'damned if you do and damned if you don't' situation. The only 'old nightwish' songs I've heard them do with her which sounded naff imo were; Wishmaster - but I've always thought that live performances of that song were a little limp for some reason and; Slaying the Dreamer - but I've never liked that song

@PatorishaMarotinezu I like both 'eras' & am quite excited for next album & film. I also like the fact that now, with the market flooded with metal bands with a pseudo-operatic female singer, NW went in a slightly new direction and are a little different from the rest. For me, the deal is always going to be the songs and as long as Tuomas is writing good songs I'm gonna listen to em. With regards to Wishmaster, I think the live naff-ness would disappear if they had a 2nd guitarist.
@barrry9 Well, there are lots of bands with an opera voice, but Nightwish was the first one. I think Epica or Within Temptation, or other groups like them aren't so good as old Nightwish. Not for the voice (well, also for the voice), but for the songs.

No matter how many times people say to just "get over it", there's just no way. I can't even finish listening to this video, the beauty of this song is gone when she sings it. With Tarja, Ever Dream used to give me shivers, it was one of my absolute favorites. There's no more Nightwish now, the only thing that's left is great memories.

She's played the oboe for 8 years, she toured with her parents and even sang with them on stage, many talents shows and bands, singing lessons at the Copenhagen Music Conservatorie with a private teacher, and even now she takes private lessons when needed.

Beautiful, even though this song was for me always the Tarja Theme Song. I hadn't expected Tuomas to do this one with Anette after it was clearly so emotional for him at End of an Era.

to be honest i think both Tarja and Anette are incredible... they both have they're own styles - every singer's different - but there is no denying that they are both good at what they do ;D

so... this was the song, which gave me help and hope for my former relationship, he left me, but again it gives me hope and help for life. and anette is so emotional and amazing in this song, that i can find so much strength, which i need to fight for what i had.
Annette is good for what she can handle, but she doesn't have the range capabilities of Tarja, which makes it strenuous to hear her try. You can hear her reach her breaking point in this song then she has to scale back to keep from straining. In my opinion this is an awful rendition of a spectacular song. It is also my opinion that Annette is not a good fit for the caliber of this band. She's really not much more than a decent pop (Top 40's) singer.

Very good version. Obviously way diferent than End of and Era..DUH! But the fact remains that the song TUomas wrote KICKS ASS, and Annette does it her own way and makes it good.
Tuomas (keyboard, songwriter) was in love with Tarja and couldn't take it when she got married. Look for this song from "End of an Era" LIVE. Look at him after the intro, he's got his face in his hands... Straight after this concert Tarja was given an open letter written by him and got thrown out. Tuomas is still single, probably still in love with her. Let him suffer, f*ck him.

When I was watching their first concert with Anette I was appaled, but then i can see Anette is starting to be better, she started understanding to Thoumas music better and that started to be good.

This does show that Tuomas is capable of writing songs that cater to Anette's strengths, just as he wrote songs that catered to Tarja's strengths. So when he has Anette sing a song that was written for Tarja, the results aren't so good. That doesn't make Anette a bad singer, though. Just different.

Tarja does not have contract with an opera house and she also declared (to avoid this kind of discussions probably) that she is no opera singer.
But she did performed at opera and without any trace ob subjectivity, the arias she sometimes interprets at her shows are exceptional.

Beautiful, even though this song was for me always the Tarja Theme Song. I hadn't expected Tuomas to do this one with Anette after it was clearly so emotional for him at End of an Era.

to be honest i think both Tarja and Anette are incredible... they both have they're own styles - every singer's different - but there is no denying that they are both good at what they do ;D

I just recently started listening to Nightwish. Yes both Tarja and Anette have a different style but they are both great singers. Eveyone needs to just get over it. I know everyone is entitled to there own opinion but enough is enough with this constant bickering

I do like Anette, but i dont think her voice fits this song. IT was meant for a higher tone. Their stuff with Anette was made in a lower tone so it sounds better, but i hate these. Anette is not Tarja, and cant sing like her. Same goes for Tarja to Anette.

Annette is good for what she can handle, but she doesn't have the range capabilities of Tarja, which makes it strenuous to hear her try. You can hear her reach her breaking point in this song then she has to scale back to keep from straining. In my opinion this is an awful rendition of a spectacular song. It is also my opinion that Annette is not a good fit for the caliber of this band. She's really not much more than a decent pop (Top 40's) singer.

Very good version. Obviously way diferent than End of and Era..DUH! But the fact remains that the song TUomas wrote KICKS ASS, and Annette does it her own way and makes it good.

Tuomas (keyboard, songwriter) was in love with Tarja and couldn't take it when she got married. Look for this song from "End of an Era" LIVE. Look at him after the intro, he's got his face in his hands... Straight after this concert Tarja was given an open letter written by him and got thrown out. Tuomas is still single, probably still in love with her. Let him suffer, f*ck him.

When I was watching their first concert with Anette I was appaled, but then i can see Anette is starting to be better, she started understanding to Thoumas music better and that started to be good.

I have an idea. Everyone who keeps saying bad things about Anette, if you ever called yourself fans of nightwish you should be ashamed of yourselfs true fans would support the band in this new era. I too am getting pretty sick of listening to all these choads who won't even give Anette a chance because they're too damn married to that silly and outdated "Tarja IS Nightwish" mentality. One man--or woman--alone does NOT an entire band make. Tarja still sings well, Tuomas still writes good songs, Tarja and Tuomas had a falling out and all the rabid Tarja fanboys in the world can't reverse that. Give Anette a chance already.

@FZuloaga That's your opinion. I'll grant that she and her voice are a lot "perkier" than Tarja and her voice are. But I honestly don't think that Tarja could sing Amaranth as well as Anette did.
This does show that Tuomas is capable of writing songs that cater to Anette's strengths, just as he wrote songs that catered to Tarja's strengths. So when he has Anette sing a song that was written for Tarja, the results aren't so good. That doesn't make Anette a bad singer, though. Just different.

Ahhoz képest hogy mélyebb hangja van mint Tarjáé volt, gyönyörűen elénekli. Tarjának egz semmi volt, de Anette megdolgozott a számért, látszik hogy szenved néha, hogy kiénekelje a hangot de legtöbbször sikerül neki, pedig tényleg nagyon magasan van... Ezért akik szidják azok elmehetnek a faszra, nagyon tehetséges ő, csak ti nem tudjátok észrevenni és értékelni, RESPECT neki!
