@Lastlondonfire Are you kidding me? The Horrors sound nothing like this, and the pains too, just because they're influenced by the 80s doens't mean they're like this.
But surely they are miming! This is note for note same as the album. Or maybe they did a mix and then mimed it? But still fantastic stuff. Out of the the Furs, the Sound, the Cure and that ilk, I think it's the Comsats and the Chameleons I still listen to most.
Not sure if it is a coincidence but there are also quite a few Block Party moments that sound like direct rips from the Comsats. Could be via secondary sources!
Timeless and wonderful, sounds as fresh as ever. Wish I was still in the UK and could go and see them again.
To even mention editors and coldplay in the same breath as these boys is an insult, they arent even in the same league, U2, edge also nicked steve fellows guitar playing style, bands today just cant compare with the originality and style of back then
The Comsats played these two songs at their reunion concert in April and it was amazing. They're doing doing a tour on October 22, 23 & 24 in Glasgow, Manchester and London. Tickets are on sale now at The Gig Cartel (dot) com
The Comsat Angels are singularly influential on everyone from U2 through to Coldplay and Editors. A band I hold dear and am proud to say I got to see on their limited time touring in the US.
The Comsat Angels have announced a reunion gig in Sheffield, England on April 26th. It will be at the O2 Academy as part of the Sensoria Festival. They will be performing songs from the first three albums only.
I saw them in 1984 in Bergen [Holland] for the one and only time. Much better than U2 or bands that became a commercial success. Still wonder why they did not had big commercial breakthrough. THE BEST EVER.
I would say that this is the "12.12.81 Brussels Generation 80 TV Show, Belgium"
Never actually seen it before but seen it listed. Magical band, pity they do it play back. They also did a superb performance att the german "Full house"-TV-show in 1986, 3 songs live. Hope someone can upload it, maybe I will...
I'm not shure if it was 81, 82 or 83, but CSA was at Parkpop and it was raining slowly. My girlfriend and I held on to eachother and enjoyed CSA... Magic!
Comsat Angels frontman Steve Fellows has posted solo music on his MySpace page! YouTube does not allow URLs here, so to listen to it type 3ws (dot) myspace (dot) com (slash) stephenfellows
Such a treat to see this, thanks esvcg. Like Ic1cle, this remains one of my favourite songs and "Fiction" is still one of my Top 10 LPs of all time, though more than 20 years has passed. The Chameleons are up there too.
What a voice... I loved this band, and "After the Rain" was one of my favourite songs of theirs. I had never seen any videos of them before people started posting them on YouTube, so thank you very much - this is an unbelievable treat and brought back many memories of this wonderful, underrated band and of the early 80s.
what can i say about the comsats that has not been said already except they were a big part of my life as were the sound and the chameleons i really miss bands of this kind they floated my boat big time thnx jonmac
Anyone have any footage of their appearance on The Tube? It was the first and only time I ever encountered this band, and my brother and I still talk about it. They played Cutting Edge and something else. Can't remember what, but it was equally great.
I saw them in Birmingham UK in a little nightclub off Hurst Street called The Locarno in about 1981 or 1982 supporting U2 who were relatively unknown then and they were promoting the October album. There were about 300 of us there in one sweaty little club. What a gig. What a night. Thanks guys.
I remember The Comsats played Independence Day at the gig & when Kevin Bacons bass note shuddered in halfway through, it hit me so hard in the solar plexus, I could hardly breathe. Great memories.
I've had this album for about 15 years, and this is the first time I've ever seen them perform any of the songs in a video format. Pretty cool. Too bad there's not actually any good video channel out there that would play something like this, randomly. (Or is there?!?)
Dick, you can thank a band called Pere Ubu for the simplicity of the Comsats sound. They supported them on a few gigs in their really early days and Steve Fellows noted how simple yet effective their song structures were compared to the then burgeoning sounds the Comsats made, so they determined to go back to basics and strip it all down. I'm so so glad they did. Thanks Pere Ubu. I owe you one.
Hey, 10Q for this! I've never seen them live -but always have listened to their music. So this is wonderful for me. By the way, my favorite song is "Eye Of The Lense"
met steve and the band after a badly attended gig about 14 years ago at manchester uni. A fellow fan of mine(since day 1) drove us 150 miles just to see them. More people arrived after the gig for the fking disco!!!

I had just found the okkibox hook-up through the "Independance Video" comments a few days ago, but I was pissed to see the videos were down today (until I actually read that they were posted here instead). Anyhow, thanks for the amazing videos. Classic music.
A million thanks to esvcg for posting this ! Very rare to have video footage of this VERY under-rated 80's band. ' Fiction' is one of their best albums and these two tracks capture its mood perfectly !!
I wish I could tell these guys how important they were to me. And I am from Brazil! Perhaps one of the most underrated bands in history! Their forst album is a masterpiece.
Thank you esvcg for posting this! According to Maria Jo's website, this was a German TV show not from the Netherlands. I think it's the best footage I've seen of the Comsat Angels. Maybe more great stuff will still turn up!
Ah I see. I just watched a rerun of Gotterdammerung 2000 last night (a Dutch 1982 alternative music show) and they were showing the same 2 videos so hence the country mix-up. Does anyone know which German show they recorded this for? Later on the show there was also a performance of the Associates with the same background logo.
The source of this video was the web site of a woman in the Netherlands. The link for her site Okkibox is in the information box up in the corner of this page.
I have to correct myself. The show is Dutch but has a German name. So it's originally recorded for a Dutch show. I believe the band was most popular in the Netherlands.
