If you would care to look at baha300s profile page you will see he is in the United Kingdom where it is illegal to own 3/4 of his collection in functioning form. The bolt action weapons would be legal to own on a firearms certificate if he was able to shoot regularly but not the semi and full auto weapons. I own a number of deactivated weapons for re-enactment purposes, I could not afford to keep and run them as live firers.

So in what way are these "de-activated"? DO they just fill the receiver with cement or something? Can you still cycle the action? Do they plug up the barrel? What is the method of "de-activation"? Also it's a damn shame that those beautiful weapons have to be rendered inert.
@safewaysecurity the firing pin is removed and the hole is brazed shut. Usually firearms are de-activated because the metallurgy with key components in the action of the firearm is too poor, Rendering it unable to funtion and too expensive to fix.

For example, if the reciever of an AK-47 is old, rapid heating and cooling of the gun causes the metal to break down and eventually crack. The Firearm is not unsafe to fire dude to the lack of structer retaining the action. Cosmetically it can be fixed, but a new body of an ak-47 range from $100, to $1500. Some people choose to fix it, others choose to deactivate it and sell it.

@BurtSaun the point is they can be used at shows as you cant have live firing weapons where they can be stolen by the public and use in crimes.i own most WWII german weapons live and de-activated.it all depends on your countrys laws as to weather you can have single shot,semi-auto or full-auto.so if you can only have single shot you cant own MP40,STG44 or MG's unless they make a modern version thats only single shot,but the point is owning an original weapon

@CornMakesWhiskey they pretty mutch weld a metal bar in the barrel and remove most of the guts but it depends how old the wepon is old deactivated guns may just have a cemented barrel witch can be restored to working condition newer deacs may have a rod welded in the barrel and guts removed
Cool a PSH, try to get one Suomi submachine gun M31. Then your holding in your arms one of the guns that were used by Finnish Jaegers in WW2. My grandfather was a jaeger in WW2 and he fought 2 years in frontline against russians. He used this gun. HAKKAA PÄÄLLE JAEGER BATTALION 6!
i dont understand, why waste money on deactivated guns? shooting them is 90% of the fun of having one, cleaning is 5% and reloading is 4%... which means 1% is bragging rights... and that drops down to about .0000000001% fun when they are deactivated...

Theyre also a good investment I have 11 now but the bet investment I made was my Bren gun, I paid £120 for it now 4 years later its worth roughly £400 and tthe price is still rising.

@BurtSaun the point is they can be used at shows as you cant have live firing weapons where they can be stolen by the public and use in crimes.i own most WWII german weapons live and de-activated.it all depends on your countrys laws as to weather you can have single shot,semi-auto or full-auto.so if you can only have single shot you cant own MP40,STG44 or MG's unless they make a modern version thats only single shot,but the point is owning an original weapon

What constitutes a "deactivated" gun. Do they weld the barrel shut or something?
and can they be restored to a functioning state without major machining or replacing major components like the barrel (assuming you have the proper tools and parts)?
Cool collection, but it seems kinda pointless if you cant enjoy shooting them.
Makes me thankful I live somewhere that I can own functioning firearms with little restriction.
