I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma, It failed it's Emissions due to a Bad Upstream O2 Sensor. So my question would be: Is Upstream Pre or Post Catalytic Converter?
Sometimes the blue tipped wrench called a torch oftenly has to be used.I see the blue tabs on GMs for the electrical connections,I cut them off and throw them away.Don't need them.ALso,don't ever buy a Bosch oxygen sensor.Nothing but junk and Bosch's auto parts are nothing but junk
My ck engine light stayed on for a month, picked up a bottle of lucas and dumped whole bottle into tank and filled with gas. Run truck hard on the way home. Next day.,. ck engine light was gone. Did'nt have to change o2 sensor nor have a tune up. Truck 13 years old. I still have original belts, hoses, spark plugs ... etc. bet you can't say that with an americam made truck.
I've spent all day trying to loosen up my 02 sensor, that damn thing is frozen solid. I even saturated it with liquid wrench three times, letting it set in for almost an hour each time. I haven't thought of heating up the engine. I will try that tomorrow before buying a pneumatic 02 sensor wrench.
@ClarkW66 my 2006 hyundai santa fe has O2 sensor problem too. its says Bank 1 Sensor 1. Where can i find it? is it after or before the catalyc converter? please help me so i can save money. i will just buy the sensor from hyundai and i replace it my self. thanks.
I keep getting error code P0140 even after I have replaced the O2 Sensor twice already. I don't know what else to do to get rid of the error. Any thoughts????
@CheckItDontWreckIt82 Try to disconnect the negative post from your battery for about 20 minutes or longer, then hook it back up and see if the code persists.
@lincolnpower58 there is a compount out there called PB Blaster it is a penatrating compound works a lot better than WD40 i have used it to get my stubborn sensor out and it came out like a dream, try the product usually works in 2 hours, spray it on the sensor while the engine is warm so it reacts faster and you shouldnt have a problem.
Had Autozone use that tool to check my engine light, they read a code that said it was either my 02 sensor or a fuel injector. Dammit. Now i have to buy an 02 sensor, replace it, and if the light is still there, buy a 60$ fuel enjector, and put in and take out till i find a faulty one. dammit. Months savings down the drain.
Hey buddy I have a 1997 Tahoe. My service engine light is flashing so I took it to autozone. The code on there computer came up as one of my cylinders not firing do u no what this could be?
I have a 2002 Volvo S60 none turbo and failed emissions as stated on the report from the emissions testing facility ~ front oxygen sensor needs to be replaced. I'm getting quotes of 300.00ish seems really expensive considering I have to replace this every 100.000. miles, I've never done this have no experience but have some knowledge of cars should I do this myself or just pay to have it done.
@karonvick really? any average joe can do it, all you need is a couple wrenches, PB blaster and 5 minutes of spare time. i ripped mine off today playing in the woods while in the jeep. if you can't figure out the error codes, or don't have a diagnostic tester, go to autozone, they will tell you for free, then they will rip you off by selling you a shitty part for a ridiculous price. so i usually order it online and get the OEM replacement, or other brand name, unless it's something big.
I have a '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee v-8 5.2 limited. I just purchased it but I'm having problems with it shutting off when I start it and it only does this once a week . It sounds like it wants to stay on but it shuts off. It was parked for 2 years without use but runs good this is my only main issue with it. Could it be the 02 sensor? If yes which one should I change cause it has two?
@natenraya I wonder if they left gas in the tank when it was parked for 2 years I bet the fuel filter is clogged and the injectors are dirty.. If so I would run it until the tank is empty. Change the fuel filter put some good fuel injector cleaner and fill it with super unleaded. Then drive it.
Then after that full tank is used up. I would run a 1/3 or half of can of seafoam in the tank with the tank filled with super unleaded gas. Then if it improves. Change the fuel filter again.
@jimmy101112000 Plus an O2 sensor will light up the check engine light if its really bad but it would not cause your jeep to stall. If you have a check engine light on post your codes to us. Autozone and some other auto parts stores will do this for free. But they will not clear them where I live at. If you did a sucessful repair the light will go off after some trips. I would also recommend a normal tune up. Spark plugs, Air filter, Oil change, Spark plug wires if equipped.
Often times, you have to reconnect the battery for the check engine to reset. But make sure you know the radio code, if you have a anti theft radio because when the battery is diconnected, it engages the code and the radio is un-usable until the code is put in. You can find the code by calling the car manufacture or check the website and have your VIN number handy
@TheCoolfez yeah but its no big deal if the radio gets locked out. Like you said they will give the code to you if you call with your vin. But I think that is the most dumbest feature in a stock stereo. I never heard anyone stealing a stock stereo before. And those only work in certain cars with the same connections.
Hey, if it sat for 2 years without use, you may need to flush the system. bet you already burned off the old gasoline in it, so you need to fill it up about half way, and pour in a fuel cleaner ( they sell them at walmart or any gas station) and just run it. See if that helps.
Just showed your video to my Automotive Technology class. You're an idiot and should not post a video unless you really know what you're talking about.
@DreamsellerDBD This is useless. I would hope for a better comment from someone that is TEACHING... This is not the be all and end all of how-to videos. Why don't you think of something helpful to add instead of being a total douche? Or you are just one of those mechanics where everything that is done by someone else is wrong because you didn't make money off of suckering them into paying you for shite... Please try to be a better role model for the future generations of auto repair techs.
So I have 2001 dodge intrepid I took it auto zone when the engine light came on they said its my egr vale it might need to be replaced or flushed, I just took it to aamco because my shifter is kind hard to move i told t he guy to check the egr valve also he said its fine but a o2 problem came but he wouldnt worry to much about it...still I should worry about the egr valve or the o2 sensor just dont know what to do? also my blinker wont really work
@Cooki3Dough07 Wow, you have a lot going on there, been there, done that. Sounds like you have some other electrical issue going on that could be providing false information. As bad as I hate to say this, you may want to just take it to a Dodge dealer and let them dig into it more, it sounds like something that is out of the norm.
Bank 1 sensor will always be on the same side of a V6 or V8 engine as cylinder number one. The upstream is normally before the catalytic converter and downstream behind it. The sensors work the same.
I just replaced mine last week on my 97 Yukon. I didn't know that they made a socket for the O2 sensor so I just cut the wires off and slipped on the closed end of the wrench.
ClarkW66 i meant to thank you a couple of weeks ago. Your video was a big help for me when i changed the 02 sensors on my car. Granted i have a regular car but all vehicles pretty much have the same setup for o2 sensors.
The first thing you may want to do after you determine what the problem is with the scanner, is to disconnect your battery. Especially if you are working with an electrical matter, such as an O2 sensor. You can accidentally short something out if it's not done right.
i just had my o2 sensor replaced i did it in 5 mins on my bmw e39. got them at pepboys for $85 upstream. now i dont know if i should replace the downstream one.
@RandallFlaggNY just be extra careful not to get any on the sensor! only a pea size drop on the threads is all you need. itll kill it quick if you just goop it on there!
i have a ford taurus ses and i put the OBD diagnostic thing and idk wich one is it cause it tells me thi "p0430:Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)" can any one help me .. were is bank 2?
does any one knows where is the O2 sensor on a Chevy Suburban TBI "92 i tried to find is below the passenger side on the exhsaust pipe but can't find it any help?
Stop being rude. I'm sure the guy is not an idiot, maybe he should have simply pointed out that this is not a full diagnostic example, but one meant for people who have limited resources. Why do so many people online like to call people names? You could have simply pointed out some problems in this video.
Another way to clear your CEL after you have supposedly corrected the problem is to find the fuse for the Engine Management System and remove. Then simply place it back in. This will reset the diagnostics system and if you have fixed the cause then the Check Engine Light should not come back on.
Thank you very much. Spent days on the internet trying to find how to install Air Fuel Ratio sensor ( should be similar process) until ... finally got this info. Toyota dealership estimated 1.5 hr to do the job $125/hr. plus the part itself. My worry is just how I will deal with engine light without a device...another puzzle. Btw, any special tips on AFR install on Toyota Camry 1997 LE, 4 cyl,2.2L?
Take it to your local Autozone or Advance Auto after the sensor is replaced, they are not supposed to clear the code but if you ask nice I find they will. Good luck.
YEA thats why you diagnose !! the problem to see witch one and why its bad diagnose ! come on people use your brains and then change the one that needs to be changed.
@FKHAN69 You need a life... If you know so much wouldn't you spend your time making money fixing cars? No helping them NOT PAY YOU on the internet... Ya know... If it was that important to you.
not help full at all very misleading.. you did not diagnose the oxygen sensor just because your code reader syays o2 dosent mean its the problem and most of all you did not diagnose the voltage on the o2 or the air fuel ratio no proof of long or short term fuel trim.
It is better because if you replace just one if the check engine comes on that maybe means that you didn't took out the bad O2 sensor. While you are at it, you can get the problem out from the first time. come on, it is better to replace them than messing up your car.
Thank you so much. Can you or anyone show us how to replace an o2 sensor (after CAT) on a honda accord LX? Do I have to use Actron to clear the engine code (P0141, bank 1, sensor 2)?
If I understand correctly, you said that you have multiple O2 sensors. How did you know which sensor to replace? Did that code specify which 02 sensor needed replacement?
I'm really sorry about getting back to you so late. Yes, it should have 2 before the converter and two after the converter. On the reader that I used, it did indicate which sensor needed to be replaced. Now it didn't say if it was the one on the left or right, just that it was either before or after the converter. Hope that helps
can the o2 sensor cause a knocking in you crankshaft? or is that just the knock sensor?
1978alexn 3 weeks ago
That would be before the Converter

Hope that helps

u could have went to autozone and they would plug 1 of those into ur car for free instead of pay $80.
=)

Some autostores will do it, but other will not. because they said the that part was bad then you replace it, and the code is on
So they might get sued, and loose customers
