@MrPudster1 Actually I am 14. Well, the modern bands today aren't really metal when you think about it. Many people imagine metal as the harder version of rock, but metal technically is Heavy Metal. It is pretty confusing. But when you hear modern bands, you can clearly tell they sound nothing like the roots of metal, Heavy Metal. I can respect modern bands, but I feel they just don't have the fire from the hip sound that metal is known to have. I know its just me, though.

@MrPudster1 Yeah avenged sevenfold is pretty hard to categorize. I would probably put their newer stuff as alternative metal (I dont know many bands labeled as this, but the ones I do sound quite a bit like a7x). Their older stuff is even harder to categorize. It has elements of metalcore, slight thrash metal, and lots of melodic riffs going on. Most modern hard rock is also tagged as alternative, so its tricky business.
