  • my grouping depends on the bullets, and not the rifle. i have gotten quarter size groups at 35meters [yea i know this is close distance] and some ammo i shoot pie pan groups at 35 metere, [note this is with iron sights...

  • bought mine for $69

  • Where?

Id love to get one for under $100 if possible..

    Thanks

  • 308 Enfield.... Epic

  • I got three of these all matching with bayonets. Inherited them. Theyve all been fired, and they shoot soo sweet. Wouldnt trade them for anything

  • real cost 200

  • So is it ok to shoot regular .308 ammo out of this?

  • @My98Chevy1 If it's a .308 Enfield, yeah. But most Enfields are in .303, in which case you CAN NOT use .308.

  • Nicely presented and filled with good information. Thanks making this video. This is the rifle I'm looking for.

  • Australian International Arms (AIA) produces new No. 4 Mk 2 type rifles chambered for .308 (the official designation is Mk 10). Unfortunately, due to some components coming out of Vietnam they have been unavailable for import here in the U.S.

  • Can this take stipper clips? Same ones as the M1A.

  • Cool gun. Like a Ruger Scout but better.

  • why do all the gun stores ive been in do not carry this gun?

  • I'm so looking forward to the day I own one of these, or the old SMLE in .303...I have the more common Mk4No1, but I really like those old Smellies!

  • this rifiles are still in service with low crime intensive areas in India. just saw tons of them tonight

  • I read that the ishapore series of rifles are still used by police forces in India.

  • there are 3 of those from india at the local gun shop. $250

  • Can you use different bolt heads to fix headspace issues for the 308?

  • I gotta disagree with you on .308 vs 7.62X51 pressures...the peak pressures are essentially the same, one uses SAAMI piezo units or measure, and the other uses CUP. The problem comes in when people try to load 7.62X51 brass with commercial .308 loads - peak pressures will be higher because of the smaller internal volume of the 7.62X51 case. Be sure to check head space though, in any case!

  • Instead of slowly letting the firing pin in when pullin the trigger, open the bolt slowly and let it "uncock" itself and hold the trigger as you slide thebolt back in.

  • great video i have a 67, 762x51 cut down the stock, floated the barell, 3x9 scope, like you said i come to shoot, keep in mind the used brass should not be reloaded as the case splits.

  • What kind of MOA groups can you get with your Ishy at 100 meters?

  • Great review. Thanks for posting.

If you don't mind me asking, are you from North Carolina? I live in North Carolina, but was born near Calcutta, approx. 20 kilometres from Ishapore, where the factory is located. My cousin works there now. He is working on the INSAS Rifle and LMG.

    Great video and keep posting.

  • I really want an Ishapore, going to get one once I get my UK firearms license.

  • theyre so ugly yet so..... dare i say... sexy?

  • do you shoot commercial .308 out of that thing?

  • @rafisalazar no problems with doing so as long as they are factory loads.

  • I have this rifle and I'm looking for extra magazines. Could you tell me any websites that have these magazines in 308?

  • Thanks! I've been looking for info on these, since I bought one some time ago (a 1965) at a gun show in the US for $75. I found the bayonet for it (17" blade) at the same show! I shamefully still haven't fired it, but I agree, these are very pretty rifles.

  • Man I wish I knew where to find one of these... HINT HINT!

  • about 15 years ago I was present when one of these Indian 7.62 rifles had a bolt fracture using 7.62 surplus ammo NATO (in the dry, there have been a number of bolt failures in rain of various no 4 actions!} **bolt retained in receiver /breach** no injury . I have got the Enfield enforcer sniper version of this rifle produced for the British Police in the 1960 s to 1970 s, slick action ,very accurate (if shooting in wet conditions make sure the bolt is dry)

  • Nice rifle I will have to look out for one!!

  • I've been hearing that ishapore was not chambered for the .308 Win, instead being chambered in 7.62 NATO (There's so discrepancy as to whether these two cartiages are interchangable). I assume you've been shooting .308 out of that Ishy, an problems?

  • Looks like they cut a few corners on the nose cap =) Love the Lee enfields.

  • I miss the folk music can we get some folk music every once in a while?

  • Great video you did here lots of information i have the cut down version of the 2A1 by navy arms in 7.62MM also 2 .303's ! kept eye out for this gun after seeing your video cause always wanted full size found one at cabelas gun library should be on it's way can't wait! keep the great videos coming!!

  • I just saw one of these at a yard sale last week for 125 dollars! was thiiiiiiis close to picking it up :(

  • Sootch, you were saying that they are accurate rifles. What kind of groups were you shooting with it?

  • ware did you get the .308 Enfield

  • You need your own history channel show buddy!

    Sootchs Classic Firearms

  • where do you find these old school guns? Are they borrowed from a museum or are you a collector? Everyone's talking about polymer and this and that, and we sometimes forget about what the previous generations have used. it's amazing how many of these old guns are still working and we shouldn't forget about the evolution of guns

  • lee enfield ahhh what history. my great uncle served in africa for the australian army. used the mk2 no 4 recently just picked my self up the same model from a gun show for $700 awsome condition. got 3 stripper clips with it too wich i heard is abit of an ask around these parts. specially for free. got a mate whos gonna side mount a scope for me. cant wait to get out and shoot it again. man i would love to get hold of one these ishapores but. im have to start a lee enfield collection i think

  • Nice Vid Sootch.

  • thanks sootch

  • I don't get to talk much on the forums much, so could you guys tell everybody thanks, for sending me to Gunsmithing School today on Judgement day. Thank you very much, even the haters. They sell 22 rimfire bolts and a gunsmith can reline the barrel. At my range, 22 rimfire seems to be more in demand cause the price of Pork bellies or is it Oil? I think its folks are starting to looks stupid running $90 in gas a day. We'll never know, so I couldn't agree with you any more. Good stuff, Good job.

  • Thanks for posting. Keep up the good work!

  • I happen to buy one in the early 90's for $70, glad I did , great shooter.

  • i have a bolt action and for a bit the gun didnt want to feed nor fire the last round would u happen to know wats causing it

  • 800 meters is prolly more realistic than the 2000 yds

  • @samuraitactical556 800 yard was for volley fire, don't forget this was a military weapon

  • We Brits made them, but we can't own them! Oh, the irony...

  • @ChristyTV It buuuuurnsss!

  • nice review, I've always loved the look of the lee enfield rifles, never been able to shoot one though.

  • @embosan

thanks I wlll have to go to one and look

  • @sootch00

thanks Ill keep an eye peeled

  • You should keep a cigar in the cleaning supply chamber. That would add a touch of class...

  • Thanks for the vid Don. I have the SMLE No.4 in .303 incorperated into my 3rd or "CHARLIE" level battery of arms. these rifles will shoot very well, I can shoot sub 3" groups at 100yards with the battle sights with an occasional flyer. India's version are excellent examples. They're quality was so good someone told me that after Dunkirk England got some made in India and one could not tell the difference in performance. Hits count, eveything else is BS

  • excellent

  • The full wood Lee Enfields are a beautiful classic military rifle. This 308 model is something very special, thanks for the vid, I'd not heard of these before. Very interesting.

  • cool gun man, thanks for sharing!

  • The classic WWl .Lee Enfield 303 rifle is in my top 5 all time fav's. The Canadians just refer to it as the .303 (being part of the Commonwealth and all). Too bad the .303 round is so darn expensive. Great vid, my brother. I really enjoyed watching and listening to it.

  • Do you get any number 8’s over there, (Enfields chambered in .22RF), I heard the cadet forces have finally got around to replacing them as their small bore rifle, now they have the l98a2 that can be fitted with the H&K conversion kits. It would be nice to know some are in good hands as I reckon all those still in service will go to the furnace.....

  • SHOOT THEM DAM GNATZIS!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey i have a bayonet for this rifle !! well it can go on this rifle haha i have it for a 303 1907 . but yeh i still would stick with my Canadian 303 ; the 308 is nice . but i love using a rifle that my great grand father used in ww1. still an amazing video . keep up the awesome work !

  • You should make a video of you loading this with stripper/charger clips. It takes alot of practice, but you can get really fast with it--and its a ton of fun!

  • @fuzzylumps1 Also, alot of 7.62x51 NATO from Radway Green (British production) comes in 5 round chargers in a handy bandoleer, perfect for this rifle!

  • god bless America.... nice video

  • That is the single beefiest .308 boltie I have EVER seen.

  • Cool Sootch00,

I like the battlerifle series you've been filming. History info is interesting.

    Take care,

    -E

  • good review.. this was my first high powered rifle and they preform so nicely

    thanks for all the info

  • Shot many great Rifles, own a Canadian SMLE, have fired the Training version of it a single shot .22 caliber Enfield while in the Cadets loved that rifle, Its a rifle that I never missed a target with my biggest grouping is about 1.5 inches at about 75 yards with my .303 Canadian Made one. haven't shot it in over 8 years due to cost issues and teh fact I was in college at the time. Thanks sootch00 for making me want to get more Enfields, its the only rifle I would take if i had a choice.

  • Thanks for doing that review. Very interesting.

  • Bought my first Lee Enfield (No.4 MK1) in my local gun shop about a year ago for $250. When I went in a week later, they commented on what a great deal I had made. They had just received the latest copy of the Blue Book of Gun Values. My gun was valued around $750 according to the book.

  • nice group for that old war horse. you do some of thee best reviews! thx. always informative.

  • Nice video sootch!!

  • @tacticalsheepdog I see them regularly at gun shows and occasionally at pawn shops. Gunbroker and gunsamercia are good online sources. I love the carbines. Thanks~

  • @tacticalsheepdog Am picking up two M1 Carbines this weekend. One military and the other civilian. my friend is throwing in fifteen 15 round mags and 500 round of ammo. And ready for the price.....are you sitting down? 325.00....and they are not HOT.

  • @tacticalsheepdog Gun shows!

  • Sootch;

Those rifles are best shot only with milsurp 7.62x51 NATO for the reason you touched on; commercial ".308" often produces pressures at the upper limit of that action and there's the brass thickness difference as you said. For that reason it's probably better not to refer to them as caliber .308, since there are those who will not make the distinction. I've never heard of one failing but I think they can eventually be stretched out of their correct headspace using commercial cal .308 Win.

  • @tacticalsheepdog Kahr makes reproduction m1 carbines under the auto ordnance brand if you're interested.

  • how is the bolt throw on the Ishapore? is it just as smooth as the Lee enfields in 303?

  • @SgtSplatter782 Yes, it is smooth. I could tell any difference. There are so fast.

  • That is a cool looking rifle.

    schmoo

  • ha ha finally i have the exact same rifle as sootch ishapore 2a1 made in 1967 how cool is that. note that this rifle would make an excelent shtf rifle. what is your stock number sootch?

  • @longtrangm1a It looks like 320 on the buttstock.

  • @sootch00 mine is 187, i put a used nylon gi sling on it, has character just like the gun and works great for support with the off hand, and its cheap. love you videos keep them comming

  • Very interesthing riffle, loved the review. Best of luck for the TVC award! Thank you sir!

  • Great vid its good to see some of the old lee enfields still being used and enjoyed

  • last of a long line of excellence

  • Sootch...My question is what is the next Mil-Surp that will trickle into this country at afforable prices....It seems like all the good ones came in the 80's and 90'S but since then the prices have sky-rocketed....Im 21 so what is the next Mosin Nagant, Mauser, SKS, Lee Enfield??

  • @RedSoxBowHunter The current administration is trying to block Garands and Carbines from Korea now. Let your congressmen know that we want those rifles. I don't know what's next, but any of the surplus arms here now will dry up and prices will increase, including the Mosins and Mausers. Thanks~

  • @sootch00 I personally think the cz82 in the best mil-serp in a while. The fact they're c&r as well means even people in Kommiefornia can get them for decent prices. They sell for around $250 here, and with them being steel and ambi, they have more features than even entry level 1911's

  • I have to say Sootch i have been watching you're videos for a while now and the quality shows.

  • Excellent rifle! Thank you sir! --- I'd be interested in seeing how you store your guns sometime if you ever decided to share your setup!

  • An Indian politician said that SMLE-armed police were helpless in the face of AK wielding terrorists after the Mumbai attack. I think they were ineffective because they weren't well trained enough to use the weapons they had effectively.

The cops involved in the 1997 North Hollywood shootout would have given anything for some 308 SMLEs at the time.

  • @sae1095hc I totally agree. The 308 SMLE's would have given the terroist a run for their money. Thanks~

  • @sootch00 When you have hordes and hordes of Chinese infantry charging towards your post (armed with AK-47s & PPSh-series guns) , you wont' want anything less than a automatic weapon at hand (or at least a semi-automatic)..This is a fine rifle, but couldn't face the Chinese Commie bastards squarely in the 1962 Sino-India war..Lesson learnt with higher casualties, this weapon has been long phased out from military & paramilitary use.But yeah, the good Ol' Bren LMG is still fielded.

  • @sae1095hc Mate, this rifle is totally unwieldy in room-to-room combat as in the Taj Mahal hotel or the Jewish Center where the terrorists were holed up. 500 yard accuracy means little in such cases..This rifle is issued in India to lower-rung beat constables..In the Mumbai attack it took the Crack commandos armed with guns like MP5,Ak-47 & SIG-series to clear up the Allah-Akbar guys..Well, speaking of your North Hollywood case, this rifle would've done the job for the cops for sure.

  • Great review, great weapon!

  • Great history lesson there Sootch. Always enjoy the history of firearms.

  • I miss the other music!

  • Back in 1985 I bought 10 Lee Enfield No 1 Mk 3. Nine of them where still in cosmoline. I got 1 No 5 Mk 1. I also have 2 of the Ishapore, 1 of which was never issued and looks brand new both where bought back from India from my grandfather and has been passed down to me.

  • wow 2 vids a day :)

  • where would I got to find one of these not this one in specific but just a lee enfield?

  • @musicfreak8580 You can usually find them at gun shows or online at gunbroker and gunsamerica websites.

  • @musicfreak8580 Pawn shops are a good source as well, I picked up a really nice 1950, No. 4 Mk 1 longbranch .303 for 400 a few months ago.

  • Just looking at that gun you can see the craftsmanship and character.

    Awesome!

  • Beautiful rifle

  • Hey sootch, You may pattern better with that ol' thing if you crown that muzzle a bit! Just a thought! :)

  • That thing was made when I was.... I want one!

  • @WORRO01 correction,, I was made in 63 lol, sry!

  • @controversyking looks like it will be with knives bats and our bare hands... I wish every freedom loving Englishman could swap places with a freedom-hating anti-gun idiot in the US then we would all be happy

  • @danhodg1 I would love to see that trade! We welcome all freedom & gun loving Brits!!

  • @sootch00 Hi Sootch, awesome to hear from you man! I would love to live in the US and to truly appreciate your freedoms. I plan to live there in the future but at the moment I need to stay with my family, they are my priority. I am glad to have such great links between my country and yours, I feel like I have so much more in common with Americans such as yourself than with the protectionist fools in the UK. Keep up the cool videos I enjoy them greatly, take care, all the best from Manchester UK

  • @danhodg1 could not agree with you more mate. bring back REAL guns back in the uk. not those shitty air rifles.

  • @BUCKSHOTman123 even air rifles are massively regulated with ridiculous laws, how sad is that!

  • @danhodg1 I would gladly trade you for one of our anti-gun idiots, they we could get together and go shoot SMLE's and Glocks and 1911's down at the farm.

  • @dphitch That would be so awesome!

  • @danhodg1 i think you can own one in the U.K if you get your FAC

  • @danhodg1 I am totally in agreeance :) These stupid gun laws in Britain are really driving me potty.... and you know, once you lose those rights you never get them back.

  • @Radioheadhead90 yep thats why all those in the US need to really fight for their gun rights because as you say, once you lose them the government will NEVER give them back to you

  • @danhodg1 The trick to cooking kraft dinner is to toss out some of the noodles before adding all of the cheese, that way it comes out extra cheesy.

  • @lexmark136 eh?

  • Sootch, this is my 2nd request for you to contact me regarding the HPR ammo from Scottsdale ammo. Just came through a long ordeal with them and wanted to share what good customer service is. I told Jeff A out there that I'd try one more time, to see if you wanted to hear what I have to say and share it with your viewers. I'm at email syntheticoilexpert@hotmail.com Thanks much.

  • @controversyking with the UN small arms ban implemented in almost every country on the globe. Our Americana test will come soon...

  • niiiice

  • I see your front sight is closer to one guard than the other, like mine. I guess they're all like that. :)

  • The last guns collected from public in UK where veterans service Enfields. They should never let them take there hard earned firearms.

  • Niice.
