I havent tried that specific system before but i did try out a similar thing using a home made system based on one johnny lee made. Combining it with this sort of tech could probably give some interesting results!
Yes it is, what i am going to do is basically project this system onto a regular desk. The idea is the black background wont show up so it will appear to be a regular desk but you will be able to open folders and drag virtual files around your phisical desk, a sort of augmented reality desk basiclly.
I havent gotten the projector yet so for the moment im just using a monitor lying flat on my desk.
I am using the same setup to create a painting application with finger tracking, accept that my Wiimote is facing towards me, not from above. I am interested in how you detect your mouse clicking gesture. I'm currently using still motion with a timer to register a mouse click action. Also if your Wiimote is mounted from above, how does it detect the height of the fingers ?
Hey, i detect the mouse clicking gesture using the thumb, basically if it cant see the thumb thats mouse down and if it can see the thumb thats mouse up.
By clicking down low you left click, and by clicking high up you can right click.
I origionally used the blob size to detect the height, thats the technique i used in that video. Yesterday i attained a second infrared array and wiimote which i have placed to the side of the system to measure the height. This gives much more accurate results.
I am using a nintendo Wii controller for tracking the fingers. The material on my fingers is just plain reflective tape i got from a supermarket. I have an infrared array that shines infrared light on the area, The infrared light is reflected off the tape and is picked up by the nintendo wii remotes infrared camera. You can see the setup i have in my outher video, "free air finger tracking setup". This setup cost about £30 for the Wii remote, £5 for the array and £3 for a blutooth dongle.
What resolution are you using on the monitor? What distance is need from the Wiimote and IR leds to the monitor?

@bigodes111 Resolution i was using is 1440*900. Minimum distance i found was a few inches, max distance 4-5 meters.

Pretty cool mate. Have you ever tried Track I.R? Good for flight sims and racing and stuff. I'm sure you could find a better use for it tho'!

What are you using to track the fingers and what is around your fingers?
