  • any part of the body that you can score with that is in an offside position means that you are offside! his body is ahead of gallas so he was clearly offside

  • A yard in front of gallas wow...

  • He's onside as the attacker's body is exactly in line with the defender's leg (and a leg is a part of the human's body).

  • Any bodypart that a player can use to score a goal is taken into account when ruling offside. People only seem to look at where the players feet are.. In this case he's not offside though.

  • If you expect a linesman to notice where the feet are then you've got too much faith in the officials. To all intent and purposes the bloke is offside. Give the refs a break.

  • onside

  • are these commentators fucki* serious??

  • hes onside its just the angle

  • If you have SOME part of your body (part which you can score with = everything but shoulders and hands) behind last defender you are offside

  • his body is leaning forward so the his head is behind the defenders so he's offside.

  • no daylight between em, onside

  • @impowner666 I believe that was the old ruling! Now its if the player has any part of their body which can be used legally to play football ie head, which is ahead of the last defender when the pass is made, its offside!

  • jeeeez... just let it go! the moment has passed.. it's not the end of the world.

  • The offside rule in football should be completely revised. It is next to impossible for a human being to watch where the players are. The proof of this is that in most games, that is more than 80%, that I have seen, the officials get it wrong one way or the other. Games are being won and lost because of a fraction of a foot, which is not the intent of the rule.

  • @mapache11 OH yeah this is true that it's next to impossible. They do studies on this sort of thing the Human Eye can't even distinguish between the two players that quickly so it really is impossible. We should recognize that and change it...OR we should give the referees a break, they're trying their best.

  • onside kiad! dunphy shut up and go back to your championship team! dont give your opinion until youve played for a proper team! :/

  • FIFA define it as: nearer to his opponents’ goal line” means that any part of a player’s head, body or feet is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the

ball and the second-last opponent. The arms are not included in this

    definition.

  • the still is misleading... the ball hasnt been kicked yet... the only way an AR can judge wen the ball is kicked is by listening for the sound (otherwise it is usually not possible to focus on teh offside "line" for say...) of the ball being kicked... this player was offside...

  • He's off side Ronny

  • @burn2five he's off side BILL !!!!!

  • Clearly onside also the dumbest thing I've everheard dunphy say!

  • @brady2mossfan He's offside because the rule states that if a part of the attacking player's body is in offside position, a part that can be scored with (Head, Chest, shoulders....not hands of course), then the player is offside, it's not only his feet.

  • ONSIDE...both are leaning, if you force both to stand upright, still and straight you would see gallas is the last man.

  • Yeah, he was offside and it was humanly impossible to call it out without technology, for my point of view, it was still a valid goal.

  • what morons, don't even know the rules, the rules are completely clear so that discussions like this can not arrise. You are offside if one of your body parts is closer to the opponents goal line than the second to last player of the opposing team. By that line, we can see that Gallas leg is closer to his own goal line than any bodypart of Hernandez', therefore, it is not offside.

  • @utdfortreble These guys are just idiots! What an embarrassment to see these FOOTBALL COMMENTATORS don't even know the Offside Rule.

  • @utdfortreble Not to be pedantic but it's any part of your body which can play the ball and not just any part of your body. So if his hand is in an offside position, the player is not.

  • He's onside

  • Totally agree with Whelan.......Dunphy backs the horses so he should appreciate this.

  • he's middleside

  • yes, offsides by definition

The 2005 edition of the Laws of the Game included a new International Football Association Board decision that stated being "nearer to an opponent's goal line" meant that "any part of his head, body or feet is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent

  • brilliant. just brilliant

  • Neither of them appear to be aware of the rules. Dunphy is right but he doesn't seem to know why. A player is offside if any part of their body that can be used to play the ball, in other words any part of your body other than your arms, is closer to the goal than any part of the defender's body that can be used to play the ball when the ball is played. s is obvious from the video practically all of Hernandez's body was goal side of the defender when the ball was played so he's offside. Simple.

  • @limericklad2000 what part of his body is past the defenders foot to make him offside? dunphy was just refusing to back down after being so sure it was offside even tho everyone knows hes wrong

  • Ronnie is getting into geo physics now...

He was onside Eamon is a nut job

  • I think he's onside ??

  • ronnie is right. it's onside. eamon is still a legend thou

  • Onside

  • not offside

  • Dude learn your Irish legends, its Ronnie Whelan not Ray Houghton lol

  • im wit ya ronnie!!!! offside rules are a joke

  • onside

  • Dey say in da description its Ray Houghton its Ronnie Whelan lol

  • @MichaelFitzgerald94 no they dnt check it again

  • Bill needs replacing he could barely speak without stuttering

  • @GarGPS Okokokeydoke

  • @GarGPS There's no replacing Bill!

  • Thats ronnie whelan! not ray houghton

  • it was ON SIDE

  • He's onside.

  • he's onside... only because they were playing the French though!!

  • Doesn't matter. That's what France gets for Henry's handball, which is by far, one of the worst calls in recent football history. Karmas a B*tch ain't it France? They didn't deserve to qualify and they didn't even make use of that oppurtunity that should've been Irelands. A waste of a chance. Besides, they would've lost anyway, their strikers didn't do diddly squat! And Domonech didn't put in Henry! These jokers saying its offside are laughable!

  • hes onside bill

  • If it's put to referendum and we disagree with Dunphy, we'll only have vote again.

  • Spot on Ronnie! How on earth did the linesman get that one right! Look yards offside on the live match but the reply clearly shows his back foot behind the defenders back foot. Poor auld Dunphy is getting everything wrong so far - Australia, Spain....

  • not offside

  • He's on ?

  • That's Ronnie Whelan, not Ray Houghton.
