Chickens NATURALLY ROOST. Just leave the door open and they will go up. at night. Training a chicken to roost is like training it to lay an egg... like this video just did.
Confining them to the upper area with food and water for a couple days is the perfect idea. They will get accustomed to it and associate it with roosting at night. Then when the ramp is lowered, they will go out and peck, but will return up the ramp to roost. Chickens are creatures of habit. Easy to train.
There is absolutely no need to confine them to the upper section for 2 days! install the ramp 1st, leave the door to the downstairs open, and put the chickens in the upstairs section first. Put their food and water downstairs in the grass area. They will come down the ramp for food and water, and they will return upstairs to roost at night. They don't need any training on this! i have a chicken tractor and so do my friends. DO NOT CONFINE THEM TO THE ROOST AREA FOR DAYS. . . PLEASE!
A couple of days confined to their brooding boxes? That doesn't seem right. Should try small steps like a few hours before a few days. The prefered treatment of chickens is large rotating pastures for them to explore and forage on. At least your trying to give them some grass...but locking them up in boxes doesn't seem very humane. They will be sitting in not very ventiliated boxes of their own filth which they can't even get away from.
here in arizona those chickens would be oven-fried in that coop! It's a nice simplistic design, but I think I'd have to add screened windows & a misting system to keep them cool.
I have found things to scare off animals that actually kinda works. You attach it to your water hose and it has a sensor that shoots off water when something passes on front..like a cat. Granted it was invented for deer. You guys might have those over there if your chickens are slow learners or you just have a lot of cats.
you should try the animal chaser impulse water blaster thingy. I'll send you the link. Not sure how it works of if it works but it might be fun to see if it does. Chickens are still looking good.

I grew up on a farm, where we had to go into the chicken coop every morning for breakfast. It was the worst smell, ever! Just watching you brings it back, So, how are you going to manage the poop? Chickens are known for their ability to excrete twice their body weight every other day. OK, not really- but still...
yup. hide the weapons upstairs. poor chickens, put in solitary- reminds me of a story about a farmer who rolls his dog down a hill in a molasses barrel because the dog kept getting into the stuff. the upshot- the dog still loves molasses, but hates barrels. personally...I'd have tried to lure then into their coup with goodies...associate good things with being inside...
I don't think you'll need to leave them in for a couple days. Just put them in there for an hour or so then open the door. Do it through out the day. Be sure to lock them up every night. They will get the idea soon. Cats are good getting into things-So be sure secure well. Its looking good!!! Can't wait for next video!! :)

Chickens brains are the size of a pea. I think they are unable to decipher simple things, like climbing a ramp to safety.

This has been an adventure! LOL!
I don't know anything about raising chickens, but you might want to invest in a SuperSoaker water pistol, so you can chase the cats off! hehehe!

I think theChikens donÄt like it upstairs because it is dark over there, maybe you should build an window in the roof...

We actually found Tony Blair's head in the end. John wanted to make some money so we sold it back to him.

We only have three chickens so it is not that bad. We just scoop it out every few days and put it in the compost heap.
