It's been awhile, but I think I remember hearing this song played on the Sandy Becker Show, a 1960s-era afternoon show for kids that was broadcast in NYC. Sandy looked like a neatly dressed (suit and tie) school teacher but created a bunch of kooky characters (Norton Nork, K-Lastima, for example) that left me in stitches. Sandy had good musical tastes, which included this cut and some other rock n roll tunes ("Do the Swim," for examples) that he used to play on his show.
This has been covered many many many times, but original remains the best--it remains a GREAT recording to Dance to--and i mean dance! And it can fit into dirty dancing with ease. The slow down and pause and restart between 1:38 and 1:45 was a brilliant touch--you got to really look into your partners eyes and feel the fire(VBG:). i was 16 when this came out. MaxPhiladelphia- p.s.o yes we knew what the grind was in Philly, back then:)
@baldur1377 you are so right. Hard to believe Bobby is 71. I like your comment on "For slow stuff we had The Grind" only old school would know what that meant...
At least this one is the real Bobby Freeman original, unlike most of the others on You Tube that say they're Freeman (but are not). Thank you. Great sound too.
@billchew450 I believe Bobby Freeman himself was all of 17 when he recorded this. Great bass line groove; love the false ending; record still sounds good. A Classic!

I just wish I lived in a time when I could go out somewhere and hear this. I'm 17 and I just wasn't made for these times.

I never heard of the "Grind", but like a lot of other things, it depends on what part of the country you're from.

Waiting for someone to record "Need Your Love So Bad" by Bobby Freeman for YouTube. One of his great slow oldies.

I hear that Jerry Garcia played electric guitar on this song. Freeman and Garcia were both from San Francisco.

Since this is a video of the record playing I am also amazed at how good the video camera/recorder picked up the sound.
