@greenkysp lol yeah but its true that cheeky clouds with lips blow on windmills. It's all supposed to be mad, as if it was a child's perception of it all.
Why is it you support Greenpeace? And they never find a solution that will solve the crisis. Why is it they never support research that is needed?
Along with why is it government, authority and industry leaders (Banking systems included) also refuse to support the energy research we all need? C.M.A. energy research - check it out and you'll find the answer why! Then ask your self? Are you following the fox that runs the hen house for granite?
@theCREAPx #1 Well, from an American's standpoint, we're not giving our money to countries that absolutely despise us and/or want to use that money to make a nuke to possibly be used against us or one of our allies (This is Iran I'm talking about). #2 Coal is cheap. #3 Coal is ALWAYS there, it doesn't count on any sort of weather to produce electricity. And read my comment. I never said it was better than green energy. Green energy just has major shortcomings.
@pdpaiste first, i only said the last thing cause some ppl will just mention general good points. 2, you dont give your money to those no, you buy stuff for them. if you knew how many weapondeals were made with usa weaponfirms to 'terrorist' countries youd fall apart. 3, coal is cheap in use but expensive for the next gen to clean up. 4, combine tidal, wind, solar and thermal energy and shortcomings will melt like snow in summer. also, those aint dangerous for workers or reforms the earth :)
@theCREAPx In reference to your #2, of course we're not 'giving' our money away to them. We're just sending our money to the wrong places. And yes, there are questionable weapons deals that I don't agree with. But on the other hand, we're talking about weapons of mass destruction that could be used to start wars, not end them. And what are we talking about here? I think both you and I know the advantages and disadvantages of coal usage. I just don't see this going anywhere...
@pdpaiste i think, as a people, we should protest against what our govt tells us is best, or what companies think is best for them, i know its not much, but people should educate themselves in an objective way and then make conclusions. right now people just dont give a shit as long as they can go on to facebook, which is actually ruining their real lives
@theCREAPx Right. So, you completely disregard the steps that FB has taken to reduce its environmental impact. Rather than building a data center in a warm climate, they built it in Oregon where it's cool and dry mostly year round. Meaning, they seldom have to run cooling systems and when they do, they use evaporative cooling which uses much less water and electricity. Also, their code runs their servers efficiently and uses less energy. Get the fuck off YouTube if you want less pollution dick.
@theCREAPx Of course you've never said it. You've only talked about the 'bad' things that Facebook has done but you've never said a praise about Facebook for the steps it has taken to reduce its impact. And no, I'm not mocking you for any opinion you have. It just seems to me that you either don't know about what Facebook has done or you still choose to kick Facebook to the curb anyways. Sorry for the last sentence but still, show em a little love, k?
@pdpaiste ehm, i know they did that and thats ok, but facebook is not a good company. as if the 'plantbottle' makes cocacola holy.... NOT. i only use both because i wanna know where my friends go (i rarely use it, i dont want to be tracked by ads or stupid games all the time). and i only drink coke when theres no alternative...

Coal is our only alternative near term.
The best to energy consumption is reduction of population. Think about it.
You obviously do not live in an area where almost everyone makes their living in the coal and energy industry. There is such a moral dilemma in that case. Without the coal mines here the people would not be able to feed their children or have a house to live in. As you know, there are not a lot of extra jobs around. I (and the people here) care very much about the environment. We did not start the problem, but now the livelihoods of many are threatened as well as the environment.

dont mean to be a troll but this is the worst idea i have ever come across on youtube xD 1stly at the end there is only a choice of unliking coal or liking an alternative? not fair! 2ndly that alternative cant power computers because the voltage fluctuations would damage the servers. 3rdly facebook only makes up 0.5% of the internets servers, yeah a bit. Google, amazon and microsoft make up a lot more (google 5% 2010) what i would suggest is that you invest in greener computer hardware :D
@pklongutoobe of nuclear is, you cant power computers of wind, the voltage fluctuations would break the computers xD hence why its powered of stable coal...
Oh and "a good way of making electricity is by letting cheeky clouds with lips blow windmills round and round". Shouldn't you really be saying "a much more inefficient way of producing large-scale electricity is through the use of wind power." Just because it is in a kids voice, that isn't an excuse to skip out on or change the facts.
So they've made Mark Zuckerberg, someone who has made an extremely useful social networking site that millions of people use and helps millions of people keep in touch and organise things, look like an absolute dickhead.
They've portrayed a man who has somehow illegitimately 'stolen' your friendship and is using it for evil means. They are picking on Facebook's popularity. They are not the only company using coal. Greenpeace's headquarters uses fucking coal! This is uncalled for bullying.
" Facebook is soo not cool anymore, I'm moving all my pics and shit to ___________" It's that easy, we make facebook un-cool. That's what happened to myspace. I like facebook, I think it's programming is mediocre like most any social network. Tell Mark we learned a lot from facebook, But it's time to Graduate.
Greenpeace needs to stop being a hypocrite. It's Auckland NZ offices use coal and gas electricity because thats whats prominent in that part of the country, despite buying it from the greenest provider. The same principle applies in reverse to Facebook - 80% of Oregon is renewable so it doesn't matter if you buy power from the dirtiest company. GPNZ should move its offices to Chch to take advantage of the South Island's 99% renewable energy (and end up killing a few volunteers in an earthquake!)
This whole "you are my friend"-thing is a LIE!!! Facebook is beeing run by the CIA. the ONLY reason is to get (legaly) a lot of private Info as possble out of you which you would NEVER give out to strangers. And one of them is called Mark Zuckerberg. In his eyes you all are a bunch of fools! The ones who still use facebook.
You forgot to add the GIANT SOLAR PANNALS that they use on these buildings. Data centers all over use them, especially the one in Oregon. Oregon doesn't use fossil fuels as a main source of enery. Point your finger at someone else.
"We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when we should be using Natures inexhaustible sources of energy — sun, wind and tide. ... I'd put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that."
it looks like Greenpeace took a bullying role by using something that was a hit (the social network) and decided to bash it to prove a point. They are not the only company using coal but they focused just on facebook and made Mark Zuckerberg look like a jerk. And they did it with a child's drawing making it seem that this should be obvious. It's like they care more about catching our attention than really showing us the truth about how so many companies use coal and its effect on the world.
@LittleCely It's actually a very clever approach. Facebook is a very influential and social platform-adding the fact that 'the social network' was a hit- making it perfect for this type of campaign. Of course they want to catch your attention..how can they tell you the truth if they don't catch your attention first? It wasn't necessarily meant to be taken as a literal bash on Zuckeberg, but a representational approach on companies using coal in general.
ok, so people tend to be more stupid day by day instead of being creative more and more. come on guys we need to be smart individuals not wasting time with "global" bullshit like this. do what you feel that you always wanted to do, don't concern yourself with minor politics like this. this kind of things makes our society to be so unfocused
Windmills are made of steel. The steel's melted by fire. That fire comes from sources like coal & generate CO². Windmills have to be transported and installed with industrial machinery. Furthermore, windmills have to be started 'manually', which costs energy. That energy, for a part, comes from coal. Where would we have to get all the steel to build those windmills and where would we put them before we begin to protest: "Not in my back yard!"? Windmills are not the solution. Just use less energy
@ErixPerix Yeah and it's not like coal mines, coal transportation and coal plants require any of those resources. I think everyone knows that producing something out of nothing is not really possible, it is about HOW you use the given materials. Maybe you try thinking instead of writing some fake arguments.
This video isn’t about the environment. It’s about how “liberals” hate successful people. Environmentalism is not a natural science, it’s a political science.
@TijoKJose Yes we hate sucessful people we live under a rock and we have nothing more to do with our time, but wait guess what welcome to the reality we are smarter and happier than you and we dont hate sucessful people
It's not Mark's fault that coal was used, but he has become a very influential person, he has a lot of power, I believe he could do something about this problem, he could make a change.
@barnsleybornnbred 32000 corrupt scientits say global warming is a scam vs millions of honest scientist that say what we all feel, every year is hotter
@lulspro over 32,000 are corrupt? Explain that the ice caps increased last summer by 2m square miles? The thing we need to do is reduce the worlds population and this means introducing child limits. Some countries have an average fertility rate of 7-8 children. If you want to believe that global warming is going to kill us all then the way to stop it is reduce the population. I agree we need to use renewable energy because we cant keep burning coal forever, but we need to make it more efficiant.
@barnsleybornnbred BBC made a great documentary about increasing world population called : "How Many People Can Live on Planet Earth?" Narrated by Sir David. They explain why child limits don't work. The most efficient is education. You should watch it. Everyone should watch it.!
@ribar3 Cheers, I'll watch it and reply with feedback. But you must admit, putting the whole "is global warming a myth" question to one side. Theres millions of companies burning coal and if you really want to reduce the amount of coal being burned is to pressure the govenment. Facebook is worth billions and has helped companies across the world grow so even if they are using up electricity i think it is a good reason for them to do so.
@barnsleybornnbred The more we educate ourselves, the more we can come up with efficient and core eliminating solutions. To pressure the government would be temporary solution. Governments are based and ruled by people with opinion and believe in divine power(God) and not scientifically. We can't possibly build a plane with magic, can we? If we are to make the shift from Type 0 to Type 1, we must go scientific.Look up Kardashev Scale
@PeristroFist wait, what? Did you just say that to yourself? It sure looks like it. That's quiet awesome actually. It's great that a person says to him self that he is stupid, lack so much self-respect and dignity.
Sir, I declare you the greatest man to be alive and connected to the Internet. The Internet is now complete. Thanks you for your much appreciated help. We couldn't have done it without you. *drops a tear or 2*
All the comments on details of this video are quite appalling.
Do ye understand the responsibility people like mr. Zuckerberg and other important businesses have towards little children like the child which narrated this video??
@supertrinko That's exactly right. He could have picked... Oh, well, crap, I can't think of one either. But right when you come up with a non-municipal-power-grid-dependent hosting company that isn't Google (who don't _technically_ do the type of hosting Facebook would require), you be sure to let Mark know.
Coal is an amazing fuel source that has lifting millions if not billions out of poverty and its quite clean with modern technology. Shouldn't greenpeace be out getting killed by Japanese sailors or something?
Mark could have chosen a web hosting service that didn't use coal to be fair. He could also still change it to one. He also was a loser as depicted in the video.
this video is complete bollocks, making mark zuckerberg look like a loser like that you fucking assholes, you just made up all of that, its not like he fucking chose coal yo bastards! i dont care if im being abusive to you greenpeace your just a bunch of phoney liars and bullshitters making other people look bad! get a life greenpeace
So, it's Mark's fault that whatever hosting service he chose is coal-dependent.
Anyone who understands the kind of infrastructure involved in hosting a major site knows that there are only so many things which are within the power of the site-creator to change. Coal power is bad, yes. But it's hardly like Mark "chose" coal over renewables.
@universalhat Actually, Facebook DOES have a choice about what energy sources they use. The Oregon data centre will use as much electricity as around 120,000 average US homes. Just like each of us has a choice of whether we buy Green energy or not, so does Facebook - and because they're such a massive (and new) energy consumer, they have even more of a responsibility. Google knows this and they're making responsible investments: google "Google clean energy investments" and you'll see what i mean
@AnnaKBrisvegas Nice, but clean energy isn't quite as clean as they claim it is.. If you use biodiesel for example, for every liter of biodiesel, more then two liters of fuel get wasted during the process of creating biodiesel. That means we are losing fuel by creating biodiesel. It's nice to want to go green, but it only works if you actually save on your energy, not if you just buy something because they claim it's good, but it isn't. Green energy is not as green as they claim it is.
Light but w/ serious msg. If FB wants to get serious about carbon neutrality as part of a position of responsibility (and they should!) they might want to look up a carbon offset / neutralization service like e)mission neutral
The only alternative that stands a chance is one run as a business, employing the best full time staff, investing in the same way as Facebook, but with any profits going to charities so users are motivated to spread the word. This means privacy can be balanced with money raised for charity and users have incentives to open up more but not have to.
This is one internet business where people hold the ultimate power. Somebody just needs to get it going.
We Made in Forest congratulate the GreenPeace creative people for such amaizing video. In the Made in Forest site, there are a collection of ecoSuppliers that are proposing to offer only eco-friendly products and services, for all activities of daily life.
For me facebook is a growing octopus. They have a nasty way of getting you new friends, sugesting besides the demands. I really see it, in two years, as a plague.
Iphone to total tons and pounds of coal per year = 7 watts per battery charge = 1400mAh battery that chrages using 5 volts. Watts = Volts x Current Watts = 5V x 1.4Ah = 7 WattHours 1 watt = 0.001 kilowatts so 7watts=.007kw*8,760 hours in a year=61.32kwh. 40 percent of thermal energy in coal is converted to electricity. So the electricity generated per ton of coal is 0.4 x 6150 kWh or 2460 kWh/ton. So 62.32kwh/2460kwh/ton=.02534tons*2240 pounds=56.75lbs/year charged once a day...
Liars... Greenpeace are the worst liars in the world. You lie about facts, so you get money. Wind mills are not energy-efficient, they never win back the energy the production has cost. NEVER. So they do not produce energy, they use it. They look ugly. They are unreliable. Solar panels are the only real solution, but even solar panels do not produce electricity, they waste energy making it, more then they produce. So you are bloody liars.
Perhaps you would like to watch "The great global warming swindle". I'm all for preserving the environment, i buy organic foods whenever i can, i eat vegetarian 50% of the time, separate re-use and recycle stuff and all kinds of things like that. But the talk about how global warming is caused by humans is a lie. It's a natural process that has always been prevalent in past ages.
@MatthijsDH Yes let's all go watc The Great Global Warming Swindle who was made by a guy who has geophysics education.....erm...i'm sorry....i ment history and economics.

GPNZ should move its offices to Chch to take advantage of the South Island's 99% renewable energy (and end up killing a few volunteers in an earthquake!)

it looks like Greenpeace took a bullying role by using something that was a hit (the social network) and decided to bash it to prove a point. They are not the only company using coal but they focused just on facebook and made Mark Zuckerberg look like a jerk. And they did it with a child's drawing making it seem that this should be obvious. It's like they care more about catching our attention than really showing us the truth about how so many companies use coal and its effect on the world.
LittleCely 1 year ago 2
@LittleCely It's actually a very clever approach. Facebook is a very influential and social platform-adding the fact that 'the social network' was a hit- making it perfect for this type of campaign. Of course they want to catch your attention..how can they tell you the truth if they don't catch your attention first? It wasn't necessarily meant to be taken as a literal bash on Zuckeberg, but a representational approach on companies using coal in general.

The ice caps aren't melting, they are increasing. And here is the scientific research proving it:
Oh wait, where is it... I can't find it .... It must be somewhere around... damn!
eNYpsilon24 1 year ago 3
Windmills are made of steel. The steel's melted by fire. That fire comes from sources like coal & generate CO². Windmills have to be transported and installed with industrial machinery. Furthermore, windmills have to be started 'manually', which costs energy. That energy, for a part, comes from coal. Where would we have to get all the steel to build those windmills and where would we put them before we begin to protest: "Not in my back yard!"? Windmills are not the solution. Just use less energy
ErixPerix 1 year ago
@ErixPerix Yeah and it's not like coal mines, coal transportation and coal plants require any of those resources. I think everyone knows that producing something out of nothing is not really possible, it is about HOW you use the given materials. Maybe you try thinking instead of writing some fake arguments.

It's not Mark's fault that coal was used, but he has become a very influential person, he has a lot of power, I believe he could do something about this problem, he could make a change.
MartheBozart 1 year ago
This video is ridiculous,
firstly, the idea that humans can reverse climate change is rediculous. never mind a person who owns a website.
secondly, the ice cap's aren't melting, they're actually increasing.
thirdly, over 32,000 scientists have signed a petition to say that gases such as co2 are actually good for the environment.
and finally, its stupid that you try to change companies, restricting them making profit to try and change this "global waming" scam.
barnsleybornnbred 1 year ago
@barnsleybornnbred 32000 corrupt scientits say global warming is a scam vs millions of honest scientist that say what we all feel, every year is hotter
lulspro 1 year ago
@lulspro over 32,000 are corrupt? Explain that the ice caps increased last summer by 2m square miles? The thing we need to do is reduce the worlds population and this means introducing child limits. Some countries have an average fertility rate of 7-8 children. If you want to believe that global warming is going to kill us all then the way to stop it is reduce the population. I agree we need to use renewable energy because we cant keep burning coal forever, but we need to make it more efficiant.
barnsleybornnbred 1 year ago
@barnsleybornnbred BBC made a great documentary about increasing world population called : "How Many People Can Live on Planet Earth?" Narrated by Sir David. They explain why child limits don't work. The most efficient is education. You should watch it. Everyone should watch it.!
ribar3 1 year ago
@ribar3 Cheers, I'll watch it and reply with feedback. But you must admit, putting the whole "is global warming a myth" question to one side. Theres millions of companies burning coal and if you really want to reduce the amount of coal being burned is to pressure the govenment. Facebook is worth billions and has helped companies across the world grow so even if they are using up electricity i think it is a good reason for them to do so.
barnsleybornnbred 1 year ago
@barnsleybornnbred The more we educate ourselves, the more we can come up with efficient and core eliminating solutions. To pressure the government would be temporary solution. Governments are based and ruled by people with opinion and believe in divine power(God) and not scientifically. We can't possibly build a plane with magic, can we? If we are to make the shift from Type 0 to Type 1, we must go scientific.Look up Kardashev Scale

TheBullionBull 1 year ago 2
Mark could have chosen a web hosting service that didn't use coal to be fair. He could also still change it to one. He also was a loser as depicted in the video.

charlienethercoat094 1 year ago
So, it's Mark's fault that whatever hosting service he chose is coal-dependent.
Anyone who understands the kind of infrastructure involved in hosting a major site knows that there are only so many things which are within the power of the site-creator to change. Coal power is bad, yes. But it's hardly like Mark "chose" coal over renewables.
universalhat 1 year ago 4
@universalhat exactly!
charlienethercoat094 1 year ago
@universalhat There's nothing stopping him "choosing" a non coal dependant host.
supertrinko 1 year ago
@universalhat Actually, Facebook DOES have a choice about what energy sources they use. The Oregon data centre will use as much electricity as around 120,000 average US homes. Just like each of us has a choice of whether we buy Green energy or not, so does Facebook - and because they're such a massive (and new) energy consumer, they have even more of a responsibility. Google knows this and they're making responsible investments: google "Google clean energy investments" and you'll see what i mean
AnnaKBrisvegas 1 year ago 58
@AnnaKBrisvegas Nice, but clean energy isn't quite as clean as they claim it is.. If you use biodiesel for example, for every liter of biodiesel, more then two liters of fuel get wasted during the process of creating biodiesel. That means we are losing fuel by creating biodiesel. It's nice to want to go green, but it only works if you actually save on your energy, not if you just buy something because they claim it's good, but it isn't. Green energy is not as green as they claim it is.

How about beating Facebook at its own game.
