Same with USSR - which achieved everything only with leadership of Supreme Soviet (Parlament) and Communist Party. USSR was federation of Republics - and most democratic state ever existed, aspecialy in times of Stalin.

Tito sold his anti-soviet policies in exchange of cheap and massive credits from the "west". That guaranteed welfare of this multicultural state. In USSR always was private busyness - and it was widespread (koop) - just major industry, science and resources remained in state property - not in greedy private hands - and worked fpr people - not to some richman could by a new yacht. Actualy they took place for centuries - last was in 1904 1882 e t c - Stalins modernisation and collectivisation contained food shortages and USSR never suffered any of it till 1990 (artificaly created) excluding WW2. And total number of actualy died never exceeded 600K through ENTIRE USSR. Simple fact - number of tractors multiplied 20 times since 1929 to 1934 and despite NATURAL drought food arves INCREACED.

The elections in Russia were simply a formality; nothing was going to remove Stalin as long as he was alive.
"Private business" presumes private property rights; and there were no private property rights.
It's funny, Communits all say different things. Some say USSR good, others bad. Stalin good, others bad. History of USSR that way, another says that way.

Who picked the candiates to run for office? The party. The people don't have choice in who they want to vote for and not voting for Stalin (was there even a choice) = bad news. US is not ideal either, but at least there are free and open elections, however unfair an advantage some have.
Both systems suck, but the lesser of two evils? US.

And its better for vote YES or NO for reliable candidate than to vote for dozens unknown people - we here could compare both systems and believe me - 90% of Russians really miss Soviet election system which was free and open by the way - it was guaranteed by Consitution.
And there was a lot of cases when people voted NO - and that meant end of career of that candidate and those who gave him recomendations. Plus - there was "Comrade courts"

I think we have a problem with semantics here.
"Private Property" does not mean the home one lives in assigned by the state or one's personal possessions.
"Private Property Rights" means one has legal authority over a piece of land or resource that not even the state (theoretically)can take away.
So if I lived in the USSR you're telling me I could open a Pizza place...? You're telling me I could open up a factory to make cars? You're telling me I could own a mansion?

Actualy in USSR was no private property on land - and thats right - only nation should be allowed to own its land - not some bankers or so on. In USSR land was given into long term rent for free or with funny price - and that was in massive scale - almost every USSR citizen had its land most was called "Dacha"
In USSR you could open a Pizza place or cafe - but major industry was states owned - and thats right too - no banks can raid it.
