u know, i've seen so many other amazing dancers dancing the role of kitri, but even after seeing my all time favourites in this ballet, I always return to Harveys interpretation. she dances it so strong and powerful, and u can see the joy and pride that represent kitri. u can feel it despite the bad quality of the video. my teacher always says that u gotta have presence in your back. when u turn your back to the audience they still have to see the power coming from u. Harvey made it.
Excellent execution!!! Grace, plastic, arts, playfulness, virtuosity - talent! Unique video! The magic moments, many thanks for pleasure it to behold!!! My favourite ballet!!!
ive watched the complete ballet with her and baryshnikov i gotta admit it i enjoy it baryshnikov is soo funny!!!! in the whole ballet and cynthia makes a terrific kitri (in good mode) wqhen his dad want her to get marry with other man cynthia makes some amazing faces and baryshnikov wow. i enjoy it but the best part of the whole ballet is 2nd act they looks so romantic and baryshnikov sooooo handsome and cynthia very very beautiful.
my fave kitris are olesya novikova, natalia osipova, plisetskaya (wow now thats kitri) and cynthia harvey (humm sometimes shes a very good kitri in the start of this variation when she moves the dress is a good touch) but gos she's cynthia harvey who ware we to tell shes bad shes goo
Cynthia Harvey is/was (she's not still dancing is she?!) a great ballerina!! She is great at Kitri. I love her energy. The only other ballerina I would EVER prefer in this role is Natalia Osipova. But Cynthia Harvey is amazing, why isn't she very well-known? or is she?
I think it's difficult to compare the Russian dancers to American because each country uses a different style of teaching. As for this dancer here, I think she's a wonderful Kitri, she's very bright and cheery! Thanks for sharing!
This is still the best version of this Act I solo I've seen, younger, Russian ballerinas notwithstanding...that final circle of waltz turns where Kitri beats the ground with her fan, followed immediately by chaine turns - no current Russian ballerina does it that way anymore, too bad that they don't bother with the chaine turns which is a shame because they add such sparkle.
Let me clarify myself. I think that Cynthia dances this very well, but I don't like this Russian/American competitive thing. To run down the Russian ballerinas is not helpful. Plisetskaya is still around, and she could certainly dance this as well if not better than Harvey.
I like the Russian ballerinas too, I certainly appreciate their "total body training" that informs their dancing from the very beginning. You can see this most distinctly in the way they use their upper bodies, head and arms. What I am lamenting is how their training seems wasted because the choreography given them, particularly in these so-called "set" Petipa-Minkus pieces, appears needlessly dumbed down. Haven't seen Plisetskaya's version yet and will look for it here.
Best Kitri ever.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
right when she's about to hit the deepest and most powerful part of the music i feel as though her movement doesn't completely pull through.
i'm not impressed.

Oh my yes! Even if he's older in this one, and his jumps aren't quite as high, still, what a wonderful performance!!

That's because she is American. I personally think Plisetskaya's version is much better. I like the Soviet Ballerinas the best.
