Based on my test, the foam was about the same in both machines, the taste was very similiar, and the texture was a little smoother (due to smaller hole size) on the Juiceman II due to the smaller holes in the juicing screen.
I have been using a Krups 267 I have had since 99 & but I was noticing large pulp & felt that I may have been wasting more produce so it would have been a wiser investment to upgrade my juicer. I got the Breville JE98XL but noticed the juice is not as full bodied as the krups & pieces in the pulp.I am thinking that my old krups at only .25 HP & less 200 W must be better because it is slower? I am thinking of returning the Breville & just saving for the Omega VRT . What are your thoughts?
Each juicer has their pros and cons. Its best to purchase the juicer that will best meet your needs. I PERSONALLY like the VRT better than centrifugal ejection style juicers for WHAT I JUICE, but the juicer best for you might be the ejection style.. Please see:
I too, got started JUST LIKE YOU DID ('96), with Jay's juicer. I watch you all the time, and I'v elearned so much! Thank you for helping me take my nutrition to the next level!!!!
Hahaha, that's so funny! I got a used Juiceman just like that for a Christmas present... friends and family wanted me to try juicing before I went and spent the money on the VRT that I really want! LOL
Hey John - I have an Acme Blender that I bought years ago from William Sonoma - it is a centrifuge style juicer and I was wondering your thoughts on what would be good to juice in there? I have a Vitamix that I use for blending greens and making smoothies - but figured I might want to pull out that juicer for carrots and other items that might be good to drink in add'l to the green smoothies... thoughts? Thx again!
the Acme is a Centrifugal non-ejection machine. Its my least favorite style machine. It will juice hard vegetables like carrots, celery, cucumbers and apples quite well. Its not so good on greens, but juice small amounts in there and it should be fine. It has a tendancey to get off balance and "walk across your counter" if you juice too much.. like your washing machine on the spin cycle if you load it up with too many clothes.. but use it until it does not serve you any longer..
PS... thanks for comparing the 2 juicers John. I do love my Juiceman 2, particularly it's classic almost retro styling, and the small footprint. It does juice lightning fast, with very little pulp. The only drawback is that the little front spout stains easily with carrots and beets, which I juice alot. When it goes to juicer heaven I can only hope to find another freebie, LOL! If not, I'll give the PowerGrind a go.
Hi John! It's so ironic that you should be showcasing the Juiceman 2. I started juicing just after the new year. I wasn't sure I'd like juicing and didn't want to sink alot of cash into a 'maybe' proposition. So, I put the word out on FB and lo and behold a friend brought me the JM 2, still in the box with the reciept...from 1994! It even came with 8 cassette tapes of Jay espousing the joys of juicing. Turns out I LOVE juicing and will never stop now that I've started! LOVE Jay, too!
I recently gave my juceman juicer to my sister, I replaced it with a Vert 350HD last year (which I love) but it looks more like the powergrind pro (minus grinding lip) not the juiceman II. When I misplaced my tool, I end up using a pair of culinary scissors. They worked just fine until I finally found the tool. My sister also managed with scissors for 2 weeks too, until I located that pesky tool.(I'm glad they're making it bigger). Can't wait to see how it does with GREENS compared to VERT.
Hi John! Thanks for another very informative video. I was wondering what you thought about the difference in clean-up time between a centrifugal juicer and a single auger juicer, specifically the Omega VRT 350HD. I was thinking about how I wanted to juice more often (I currently juice 1 gallon of green juice [for 2 people] every 2-3 days), and the thing that deters me is thinking about the whole clean up process with my Omega. Although I love my Omega VRT (especially for preparing a whole day
The cleaning time is fairly similar. There is a bit more screen area on the centrifugal ejection machine that takes longer to clean than the screen area on the vrt. If you are juicing mostly greens, the centrifugals are NOT for you.. Stick with the VRT.. In my opinion its one of the fastest slow auger juicers, and it works well. Just pour some water thru the machine when you are done juicing to make clean up easier.
FOR ME, I prefer the VRT over the PowerGrind Pro. It runs at a slower RPM, and is easier to feed things into, and handles greens more effectively. The VRT also has a 10 yr warranty vs 3 yrs on the PowerGrind. That being said, for SOME people, the powergrind may be a better choice, if they want to juice MORE hard veggies, such as carrots and less greens.
Thank you so much for posting your videos. They are very informative and entertaining. I am 36 and have been juicing and drinking green smoothies for about a month. I am going to upgrade my blender and juicer soon and will be buying from you.
Oh Thank You.

John! You didn't talk about the amount of foam, the taste, or the texture (pulpy vs not so pulpy) or the juices!

I was so stoked when I saw this video. We just (like 2 months ago) purchased a brand new juiceman 2 off ebay that was still boxed and sealed...=D
