He definitely jumped off the wrong foot. lol he jumped of his right foot and tried to dunk with his right hand? That's an awakward jump. Pretty impressive that he can still windmill that.
the description makes no sense. theyre playing the KINGS. the kings havent made the playoffs since the peja stojakovic era. And the nuggets' made the playoffs during this year AND every year since they drafted Melo. what are you talking about "killing your team's playoff hopes"?
@melialaba some ppl just prefer the opposite foot im right handed and for some reason i jump pretty well off the right rather than the left. its hard to explain why, it just is what it is
fucking commentators...if j.r. made the dunk, all you would hear is their crazy reactions...sadly, he didn't that's why this "pro" commentators bitching about how it's not a dunk contest...
man if this guy went to duke for 1 year coach K would have got him ready for the nba he would have been a bonified STAR hes got the talent but going straight from highschool to the nba messed him up
fuckin commentators pissed me off with there little bitchy comments.... "it is not a dunk contest" my ass.... he wanted to give the people a show because that is what they came for, not a boring layup
when you do that you just hope theres not a dead ball anytime soon.unfortunately for him,it came pretty soon after.i bet he was tryna avoid eye contact with the bench when he heard the buzzer
I hate hypocrites. Had he windmill dunked it through they would have been all over his nuts saying if you don't like that you don't like NBA basketball. What a crock of shit. If people didn't want to see windmill dunks they would watch the WNBA or some kids on a street corner.
@Bjammin1227 i dunno man. Ron Artest said that Melo, Kobe, and Brandon Roy are the hardest people to guard, and Melo has never averaged below 20 points a game in a season. Hell, this year he's averaging 29 points, 6 boards, and a couple assists. I hate the guy. He's the biggest threat against my lakers haha
the fucking problem is,that he jumps higher of his right foot,i saw it many times like in the dunk contest or alley oop from A.I. he just forgets to jump of his left which gives him almost the same as the right
Shut the fuck up gay announcers. JR tries to windmill it for the fans and the announcers have to bitch and say "this isn't a dunk contest." No one wanted to see him do a boring layup. JR Smith is beast anyway. so he misses one dunk?, who gives a fuck.
The announcer was dead on. Tried to be a hot dog and failed. Two points is two points wind mill or not.
And this play summarizes JR Smith perfectly. All the talent in the world mixed with the inability to understand how basketball works.
I can't count how many times this guy makes an amazing play and followes it up with one equally as bad. This guy is the king of throwing up contested 30 footers.
Yeah, he makes some. But often times he shoots that shot so early in the shot clock that it really doesnt matter if he hits the shot or not.
I would lose my mind watching this fool play on a nightly basis.
You a Nugget fan? How many times can you remember him launching a 30foot contested three 4 seconds into the shot clock that lead to a fast break basket?
I remember it happening at least 5 times during the 2009 WCF.
i can count numerous occasions where he drains those 30 footers. and if he has a wide open 3 (shot clock regardless) he is told to shoot it. thats his role, hit the open shots
Yes, he can hit them. However, taking and making a bad shot doesnt always help your team.
There were 2 or 3 times in the WCF where he made his patented contested 3 early in the shot clock and it resulted in easy Laker fast break points because the 4 other guys werent ready to get back on D.
65% of the time on those long 3's he creates a long rebound, which in turn mostly leads to a fast break for the other team.
Amazingly talented, but needs to learn the game A LOT more.
i'm a huge JR fan and this is pretty funny. but seriously it didn't hurt the nuggets playoff chances it was in the second quarter and the momentum the Nuggets gain from the windmill dunk is big. he makes these 99 out of 100 times.
he got sum hops...He jumped off the opposite leg and still got his head almost at rim level to windmill it. He only missed the dunk because he was a lil bit off balance!
wtf is everybody getting mad at the announcers for? i mean, maybe they were a little harsh, but still. smith tried to be fancy, and missed the dunk, thus hurting his chances of winning a game. what do you want them to say? "nice job smith, you missed the wide open dunk." i dont think so
countless games are decided by 2 or even 1 point. in games like those, every basket ends up counting for something. so, if this game ended like one of those, and they lost, he would have costed his team the game.
im sayin tho, if the nuggets did lose this game by one or two points, u cant blame a play that happened in the second quarter. that makes no sense, obviously if they lost its because of their play in the 4th quarter.
i guess so, but still. say they were the team that needed to make that play in the fourth quarter. if he had made that dunk, it would have been reversed, and the other team would have been the team that had to make that play in the fourth quarter
@supamr agreed what do these fags know they are playing for the fans yo (L) and fans wanna see sick dunks good attempt atleast he isnt a pussy whose just trying to score
@aditititi yeah this man was the first to the behind the back dunk in 05. Well the first to do it on live tv, like I said pro's miss wide open layups once in a great while. I don't think JR blew a dunk since this.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
michael jordan never missed his fancy dunks, like cradle etc, he only did the fancy dunks when he was sure he could make it, MJ only missed the simple dunks, and in my opinion, missing simple dunks is a more justified reason for missing a dunk than missing a fancy dunk if ya know what i mean, JR should've just dunked it the non fancy way, it's 2 points in the end
You can't blame him for trying to windmill dunk. These types of dunks if successful get you in a rhythm and the crowd get's into it. How boring would the NBA be if there were only lay ups. Give the guy a break he missed a dunk big deal.
jr smith is mad, we wont that shit anyway, you can tell he can easily make the dunk big deal get over it, jordan missed open dunks in his career more then a few times. JR is a great player I hope he doesnt get traded.
He probably makes that dunk 9 out of 10 times. He was just trying to get the crowd and momentum going for the Nuggets. Call it "hot dogging" but I don't think what he did was that bad.
lol Denver took the kings to lightly agaisnt the kings, although the kings are not going to the playoffs they are still a pretty good team and of course their going to beat you when you miss wide open dunks. well anyway GO KINGS!!
"they act like hes the first one to miss a dunk." Not just any dunk, a dunk that is relatively difficult for him when what the Nuggets need from him is two points. Even before he was with the Nuggets J.R. was known to be in love with his own dunks and 3s over anything else. Carmelo made 75% of the 3s he attempted in this game, and J.R. made 18% of the 3s he attempted.
first bad game for J.R. in a while, missed 3's and dunks, but that was ez for JR, he elevates effortlessly, might as well put on a show when you got wide open lane and prob 95% chance of making it.............Jordan the best player ever did fancy shit on the break too, he missed some too, im not comparing JR to MJ, but when u pay for a ticket u not only want ur team to win but u want a show.this is bball, not baseball
"when u pay for a ticket u not only want ur team to win but u want a show." To each their own, but personally, I'd like to see Iverson and Camby (etc.) get as far in the playoffs as possible, and I get nothing out of this kind of self-centered show (and so did the Nuggets).
He definitely jumped off the wrong foot. lol he jumped of his right foot and tried to dunk with his right hand? That's an awakward jump. Pretty impressive that he can still windmill that.

hurtin his chances of winning the game with a 9pt lead in the 2nd quarter? since when was a game decided in the 2nd quarter?

countless games are decided by 2 or even 1 point. in games like those, every basket ends up counting for something. so, if this game ended like one of those, and they lost, he would have costed his team the game.

degree of difficulty for J.R. like a 3......funny how the commentator was expecting something good and then turned on him when he missed it

haha yeah. they act like hes the first one to miss a dunk. kobe does it sometimes and people still say hes the MVP

"when u pay for a ticket u not only want ur team to win but u want a show." To each their own, but personally, I'd like to see Iverson and Camby (etc.) get as far in the playoffs as possible, and I get nothing out of this kind of self-centered show (and so did the Nuggets).

hard dunk for JR? Are you kidding, look how high he was and how easily he coulda made it, just came off the inside of the rim.
