  • There used to be a show on History Channel or Military Channel hosted by an American WW1 vet, no doubt he has passed since then, but trying to remember his name. Anyone remember the show and the man I am speaking of? He talked about the weapons of WW1 like the trench knife, etc.

  • @otochari Lol unfortunately I've never had access to that since my freeview broke in my room a while back.

  • Wow this is amazing great film I wish I could have ment him.

  • Damn it. He died :-( I wished i would have been able to shake this mans hand and tell him thank you. R.I.P

  • This man died on the 27 of February. :(

  • 1917.... "when the First World War was still young"? My God, that is stretching it a bit!

  • didnt he like just die or somthing?

  • @Pier2pie He died on the 27th of February this year, just days ago.

  • For what Corporal Buckles has done we should all be forever grateful. His unwavering desire, and willingness to serve, as well as his personal courage to lie about his age speak volume to much he wanted to be in France doing what he could. Now I ask everyone that reads this comment to join me on facebook in the group of don't let Frank Buckles die without a National World War One Memorial. If nothing else we owe that much to Frank, I believe he would ask for nothing more than he not be forgotten

  • @bigmuscles621 I think he'd rather us not forget the sacrifice his generation made. That's what I'd want.

  • Come on people, leave the political crap out of this! Do not disrespect Frank Buckles by bringing your petty political opinions into this.

  • imagine lettin that parasite bush meet a true hero, and a person who fought evil, not create it like that criminal

  • @tashpish He didn't fight evil. He fought men. Young men who, just like him, send to the war by there supperiors. They didn't know why the war started, the old men in Berlin, Moscow, London, Paris etc. did. So don't call them evil. They were soldiers following orders.

  • Actually, Frank is the last U.S. veteran.

  • @Corridoamor What?

  • AMERICAN BULLSHIT

  • "Last World War I veteran"

So I guess that means Claude Choules and John Babcock dont count?

  • even tho Harry patch and Henry Allingham just past away last month were the 2 last British man to be alive. This video was made before they past away aswell so i guess they dont count ether

  • That is really unfair. This refers to the last American. Our American allies were a great help to us in WW1. They are celebrating the last surviving American from that conflict. I cannot see what is wrong with that. Harry and Henry would be as revered in the States as they are still in the UK.

  • It says "our" surely that is American ? Nothing wrong with that. Don't forget Florence Green discovered recently in a care home in the UK. John Babcock has now sadly passed on.

  • I am well aware of that. It's sad news about Mr. Babcock; Canada has lost the last of its WWI generation

  • i lookt up Erich Kastner on wikipedia its says that hes dead. 1 januari 2008 rip to that man

  • May the soldiers both friend and foe killed and wounded will never be forgotten for the sacrifice they have given. in my country! Honor and Respect!

  • There is only one German WW1 veteran left!

    Erich Kastner

  • is it true tht after german soliders lost and returned to germany, the civilians were shooting at them

  • no why would they?

  • prolly mad the soliders didnt win, idc thts wht my history teacher said

  • then your teacher is dead wrong (no offense of course.)

  • actually because germany and the rest of europes economy was ruined with no benifiets

  • well said Adamswampy

  • He seems like he's still healthy, he's pretty quick with his fingers typing.

  • i bow down to any ww1 or ww2 veteran. they have earned our respect.

  • every vet should get all respect. right now not many people respect the new vet's but in 60 - 70 years they will be honored.

  • that's true. all vets deserve respect.

  • Here in the UK we have 3 WW1 vet. But harry patch is the most known. In 8 or 9 years there might not be any WW1 vet alive.

  • @rhys21kipling Correction, there's no veterans left, except for Florence Green.

  • lol, "he was sent overseas when world war one was still young" wtf? He went over in December 1917 - the war ended just 11 months later! Don't the people who work for this news station know basic history such as world war one occurred between 1914 to 1918? Or is it the usual problem of the U.S. assuming that a war only becomes a serious conflict or world war when they finally deign to join in lol?

  • fuck off. they most likely meant the war was still young for him. since he joined when the americans came in to help/lead the allies to a victory.

  • well for the US it was young cuz we didnt join till 1917 but for europe it was old,

  • was he honoured at the white house, or was the white house honoured to have him?

  • Honour & respect to this Man. Perhaps he met my grand-grand fathers on the front or in Paris... At that time, the French and US soldiers esteemed each other!

  • stop calling it ww1, its THE GREAT WAR its not a fucking movie

  • I have met Mr. Buckles and he is an extremely humble and kind man. His honor is much deserved!

  • He just signed an autograph for me. He's alive and well and a very nice man. I'll treasure it always.

  • Frank Buckles is not dead. He is about 107 now I think. If anyone is interested in learning more about the last WWI veterans stories, then watch The Last Tommy, here on You Tube. It is brilliant.

  • I just hope that the day this man dies the President will order a period of national mourning for the entire WWI generation lost to history. If Britney Spears is the top story that day, I will surely smash something.

  • I always knew that hardly a peep would be uttered in the media about the last US WWI veteran. This death should have been the top story in the country, not Britney Spears' latest embarrassment I couldn't care less about. A month of national mourning should have been given in honor of the entire generation of our veterans now lost to history.

  • um... he's not dead

  • They should erect a statue of him in his hometown.
