I don't think this is a bad song taken on its own terms, but labeling in a "cover" is setting people up for disappointment since the prospect of hearing him do an actual cover of that song sounds so intriguing, and this is instead a totally different song.. and one that doesn't hold up to Joni's original.

This is a new song with another song's lyrics. The harmonic beauty of the original has been replaced by a different arrangement with a kind of military march feel, good for ...I do not know.. With new original lyrics Sufjan could have had more royalies without ruining a classic.
