@dkoriss1 - I just leave a short piece of the top end of the rawhide inside the quiver. I bend it back in the opposite direction and hold it there until it dries. When it dries it is hard and doesn't move around.
@58lucinda - Just regular water. The river cane is a plant so by boiling it, it starts to soften the fibers. I only leave it in long enought to bring the water to a boil, or close to a boil, then shut it down. I think over boiling could damage the cane.
@Pyromaniac1801 - Shape the 9th rib kind of like a fish hook with a long shank. Add the 9th rib last on top of the first eight with the curved end "on top" of one of the ribs on one side and the long shank side coming up "between" two ribs on the other side. Once you start weaving with the rawhide, it will hold the 9th rib in place.
@mdw63 Just like basket weaving, you always have to have an odd number of ribs. If you had an even number you would always go under (or over) each rib, not over one time then under the next. I figured it out the hard way...
Nice job.
What is the way you secure the end of the row hide when you finish the base, in order to stay in place and before you go on with the rest?

That hardest part maybe cheat and glue it to start just to hold them all in place to get started even a natural pine sap glue =P

@MrSokitumi0007 - Awww, it's not that hard. As long as you've got six fingers on each hand it's easy :)

What was it you added to the boiling water to soften the cane?
