You do realize that historically, the Slavic countries have dominated the world of hockey. It was a completely different style, the east relied on skill + agility, not on grit. It is only since the breakup of the Soviet Union in '91 that many of the players deflected to other leagues, and many of the players from the former Soviet Union ended up playing in the NHL, with great success, and this is when the rivalry between the east and west became less one sided.
