  • Happy birthday Virginia Woolf,I love The Hours

  • thanks forever!

  • Jdollinter has a perfect life

The Hours is the best film in the world

  • Years from now people will look back at this film and realize it's a manipulative, pretentious bit of clap trap. These days everyone whispers reverently," it's supposed to be about Virginia Woolf, it's high art"! Ed Harris is miscast as a grotesque AIDS patient whom goes looney and throws himself out a window so the audience can feed on the tragedy and Meryl Streep also does an unconvincing gay character while Nicole Kidman french kisses her older Sister for a lesson in incest and weirdness .

  • Possibly the most poetic suicide note ever written. I love the ending of this movie.

  • currently watching this is college literature class after reading mrs. dalloway its a masterpiece QQ

  • this film is a masterpiece! and possibly, better than the novel!

  • Excelente,la más bella de todas

  • Almost as talented as the composer of The Truman Show film score.

  • Bom demais, melhor filme, junto com Koyanisqatsi. Acho que Philip Glass nunca ganhou um Oscar. Mas quem se importa? Que Gênio!!

  • We'll always have the hours, the surgical interventions between rhinoplasty and

    breast enhancements.

  • @jdollinter Grosseiro!

  • This movie is magnificent.

  • I love this scene, I love this movie...

  • a film of this quality is a form of art, beautiful.

  • i cannot believe someone actually uploaded my favorite part of the movie...when i watched the dvd i must have repeated this scene 25 times! now i can add it to my favs! thanks sooo much! i love this!

  • Did Nicole Kidman deserve the roll of Virginia Woolf ? Does the former wife of Tom Cruise and queen of the tabloids do much reading between visits to the plastic surgeon? She's much too pretty and superficial to realistically portray Mrs Woolf and the voice is all wrong. If Nicole had lived back then I doubt she would of shared in the same sphere of friends or intellect, a Bloomsbury candidate she's not.

  • @jdollinter Superficial is judging an actor's performance by the surgical interventions or the number of pages tabloids chose to write.

  • @jdollinter Wow, sounds like you personally know Nicole Kidman. What did she do to you to deserve such bashing?

  • @jdollinter

The only valid arguement you have is regarding the voice that Nicole uses, but she has already stated that she didn't want to mimic Virginia's voice, as it would be seen as commical to modern viewers...so you honestly have not arguement. :)

  • to look life in the face...always to look life in the face...

to look life in the face...always to look life in the face...

to look life in the face...always to look life in the face...

to look life in the face...always to look life in the face...

to look life in the face...always to look life in the face...

  • Always the years between us ... I adore this words.

  • This sence made me cry. It's such a sad sence.

  • to look life in the face...always to look life in the face...

  • "The Hours" was also Virginia Woolf's working title for "Mrs. Dalloway"

  • Why is the Movie titled ''The Hours'' ??

  • @fatizoo1000 i think because we must be grateful to the hours we have been giving to live with loveones

even sometimes these hours took you through sadness and suffering but hours of love beats them alll

i think hours here means our life

  • Which song of the sound track is this??

  • I watched this film uncountable times and adore it.. I could watch it again and again, every part of it is relevant to life... and the music is just amazingly beautiful.... I love it...

  • Siempre las horas.

  • WHO THE HELL DISLIKED THIS CLIP !!!!

  • Holy shit. She just killed herself.

  • Epic prodution. So powerful.

  • stunning!

  • can u tell me about a similiar movie to this ? =)

  • @TheInpherus you may want to read "Mrs. Dalloway' by Virginia Wolf--this book is what inspired 'the Hours'

  • @EmmaRose473 thanks =)

  • @TheInpherus You're very welcome! ------------------------I can recommend two of my favorite movies, that like 'The Hours' are UNIQUE-----"The Piano" (with Holly Hunter) and "Atonement" (with Keira Knightley)--two incredible movies that are difficult to shake off the psyche...

    Best Wishes,

    Emma

  • I truly love this film - not in the sense of it being a film that I, for the sake of reasoning, necessarily enjoy to watch - but it is just so thought-provoking and moving; like Virginia's work. The first time I watched this film, I was expecting some kind of biopic that would end up falling down at the first hurdle - my expectation of a Virginia Woolf biography - as I hadn't read Cunningham's book then. I was sat dumbfounded for days afterwards trying to absorb everything from the film!

  • Always the years between us.

    Always the years.

    Always the love.

    Always the hours.

I agree, one of the most provocative movies ever made ~

I have watched it countless times and always cry but learn.

  • @jennally

    why provoctive?

  • of course im a man

  • Best ending ever!

Nicole was amazing in this movie! (My favorite movie of all time).

  • When I watched this movie for the first time, I got confused, Virginia is the Writer, Laura is the Reader and Clarissa is the Character. So Virginia wrote a book about Clarissa's life and Laura read the book in the 1950's and Richard wrote a book about his mother, Laura...right...?

  • @andrewdisney1 JUST THINK

  • @noatraco OK! TIGHT ASS!

  • @andrewdisney1 'The Hours' was the working title of the book 'Mrs. Dalloway', written by Virginia Wolf. 'The Hours' is also the title of the book from which this film was made. The Hours' narrative was inspired by the book 'Mrs. Dalloway'. The first name of Mrs. Dalloway in the book Mrs. Dalloway is Clarissa. Clarissa, played by Meryl Streep, plays out events like shopping for flowers and others things which reflect events of Mrs. Dalloway in the book of the same name. Mail if want to know more.

  • la mejor pelicula que he visto en mi vida,la unica pelicula, que a uno le remarca el hecho de la finitud de la existencia y que la vida debe ser vivida a intensidad en 1 solo día

    Obra maestra

  • Absolutely fantastic.

  • Viriginia Woolf's actual last words were "glugglugglugglugglug"

  • @SouthwestRanger Ok. HAHAHHAHA! You've made my day! XD

  • @SouthwestRanger so mean... xD

  • This movie changed my life. God bless Stephen Dauldry, Philip Glass, and three of the most extraordinary contemporary women.

  • @qiyjia it changed mine as well, I'm glad I'm not the only one :)

  • @qiyjia And we must not forget Ed Harris, the scene Harris-Streep when he jumps, the dialog, the looks... of the better of the history of the cinema

  • One of the best films ever made. One of the few that makes you really think about life. And this movie has possibly the best score for any film ever made.

  • @BestBusser09 Arguably, but yeah.

  • the only film that makes me cry!

  • what is this video

  • Always the years between us.

    Always the years.

    Always the love.

    Always the hours.

  • @fascinatedbywords one of the most beautifully written films ever :) sad but beautiful.

  • I love forever

  • Caught this movie on TV late last night. Simply beautiful

  • Vincent died 5 years ago today. I dedicate 'these' words for HIM.

    Thanx for the post!

  • I remember seeing this film in the cinema when it was released in 2002. I had never had an experience like it, nor another one since. The movie was so captivating at all levels (the words, music, imagery) that it was as if the entire thing took place in one long breath. I also distinctly remember that as the credits rolled, nobody moved or spoke for what seemed like forever, as if too stunned or disoriented to return to 'reality'. A truly great film.

  • LOVE IT!! LOVE IT ALWAYS.

  • Somettimes you get so much built up resistance in life that it is known by the whole of you, that the only way to release it and be free is to withdraw yourself from the physical altogether.

  • Such great words, such a great finale!

Stephen Daldry is one of the best directors.

One of the best film EVER.

  • This is a real poetic way to die, even if it is suicide, she is leaving a legacy that will live forever.

  • nicole kidman is the best

  • There is such meaning in these last words...The brilliance of this film never ceases to amaze me.

  • I was blessed by God for had watched this film. From Brazil.

  • i think the best movie of all time

  • it is not tragedy nor romance; it is life, just a woman reaching the end of her life...

If you're afraid of dead you'll find tragedy, if you're an emo, you'll find romance.

  • @ECN87 if you're human, you'll find that she died for both herself and Leonard, which is tragic, romantic, and hugely courageous.

  • I'm haunted by Virginia Woolf's beauty. In my mind, she is the most wonderful person, ever given to this earth. Please, do not forget her.

  • Suicide is never this romantic.

  • @Messylin The scene is tragic, not romantic. Do not mistake the two.

  • @Messylin depends of the suicides :)

  • hello...every one...i saw this movie many times...simply because it impressed me soo much....every thing in this movie was perfect....not in the classic way....it shows the truth which we denide.....the life's nature......it's a fabioulous work...the script was perfectly prepared.......one of my favourite.movies in all the times......hanks...

  • ...to look life in the face...ALWAYS to look life in the face...and to know it...

  • @miyobi85 I love that line. ALWAYS to look life in the face and to know it and then to put it away. hauntingly beautiful

  • @miyobi85 I love that line.

  • un film boulversant , trois parcours hors du commun et un trio de grand talent

  • Wonderful scene!!!!

  • i love this movie, and also this end.. it makes you to think about everything about your life.. people around you, everything...

  • i have watched this film 50 times..or more...it is brilliant ........... for so many reasons..

  • @MrMarks4 the best movie,it's makes me cry everytime I see it

  • @MrGalo7338 ,,It is truly brillliant.. I love so much but love it when Meryl lays back on the bed with her daughter and says "when were you truly happy?" she says something about thinking this is the feeling of "happiness" and it was the start of happiness and it would always be like that..... but it was that moment , that very moment...that was happiness........ I think that sums up totally how I feel about that. Thanks for your reply x

  • Why is it that films that lean towards womens lives rarely find the acclaim so richly deserved. Most people havent heard of this film, but they all know of the Godfather!

With the arrival of this film we say WE ARE HERE! ..........Always!

    I love it.

  • Perhaps the calmness comes because she knows she is finally going to be released from life's torture. Watch this film - It is brilliant . I've watched it at least 4 times.

The other suicide to watch is Gillian Anderson in "The House of Mirth".

You can also watch that on You Tube.

The music in scenes 1 & 7 is so beautiful.

  • fantastic

  • One of the most touching, beautiful movie endings. Simply wonderful.

  • i find it irritating that those wasnt the actual final letter that virginia woolf wrote to her husband...

  • fantastic!!!

  • Perfect!!!!

  • Perfection...

  • Virgina Woolf avait tout sauf une raison de vivre ce qu'elle avait,ce n'est pas par depression qu'elle s'est suicidée mais par lassitude...

  • So beautiful!!!!!

  • Haunting music at :45. Great movie.

  • To look life in the face

    Always

To look life in the face

And to know it for what it is

    At last, to know it

To love it for what it is

    And then

    To put it away

    Writer: Virginia Woolf

  • Always the years between us.....always the love.....always.....the hours....

  • Always the Love; always The Hours.

  • I remember watching this with my cousin its depressing yet truthful about how women sometimes feel. I'm renting this next weekend <3

  • This is the most powerful ending to any film i think i've ever seen. The combination of music, the words spoken and the image of Virginia wading into the water.

  • @bweb6 fucking hell yes.

  • PLS, what song from soundtrack is the last on ein subtitles....?how it names...thx

  • it´s Philip Glass, a great piano artist!

  • yes...She drown herself in a similar way... The body was found several days after, with stones into her pockets... Was the obvious end of thediscending parabole of her life... She embodied the feelings of an era... She couldn't bear the weight of her sensitivity

  • yes...exactly in that way...she put stones into her pokets... The body was found after several days...

  • did she drwon herself?

  • beautiful film and wonderful music <3

  • so beautifullll *-*..... makes me want to cry.

  • the best britsch writter, the best virginia's book, the best from england... my love

  • Chills in my body, tears in my face.

  • what a music...like from heaven...

  • beautiful.

  • Always to look life in the face... This is the film of my life.

  • Best and last scene of a profound movie.

  • so good.

  • The first time I saw this I cried for the rest of the credits.

  • This scene moves me to tears every time - the most bittersweet ending one can think of. Virginia Woolf's words have a special place in my heart - because of her I have the courage to look life in the face.

  • me too

  • They got the title for this from Virginia's diary- she was originally going to call Mrs. Dalloway The Hours and referred to her working manuscript by that title..."to look life in the face..always to look life in the face..to know it for what it is..at last to know it, to love it for what it is..and then..to put it away"... oh how I love Virginia Woolf.. I don't think anyone will ever grasp how talented she truly was..

  • drowning is just another word for being burried alive under water

  • sadness can be asthetic.movie depicts silent storm tht sum of us carry in our hearts.every heart beat infuses a surge of futilty of our existence.the only significant thing seemingly is the eventual emanicipation 4m life

  • Tears, tears, tears. Too beautiful...

  • based on a true story...! fantastic!

  • "Always the years... always the love... always the hours..."

Something happens to me every time I see this film, something I can't put into words. I'm specially touched by the final scene and Virginia's words.

    Simply magnificent.

  • I'm now very obsessed about this bit of the movie..... I sometime find my self uttering "always ...."

  • @vanitalinda2008 I absolutely feel the same way.

    Awesome.

  • @vanitalinda2008 me too. my heart breaks.

  • @vanitalinda2008 me too

  • me too , thanks Stephen , Thanks Nicol , thanks virgina !!!!!!!!!

  • wow I'm doing a monologue of the ending of acting school I just love this movie LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie

  • great movie =9 just amaizing

  • always...

  • Virginia Wolfe ended her life the only way she could. She had come to accept life in it's most daunting and beautiful terms and knew that a woman in her circumstances at that moment in time could not exist.

  • I don't usually agree with anybody's opinion about her, but I must say you've just made a brilliant description.

  • The main characters in this movie are making decisions that just show their suffering and despair. Like noone can really ease your pain. It's very depressing on one hand but on the other hand you can find understanding in this film.

  • perfect perfect perfect !

  • Love it

  • ...always... the hours.

  • I adore this movie, after i saw it I read everything about

virginia woolf, very interesting woman with a tragic life

and one of the greates writer, I think

  • its amazing how emotional a minute and thirty-one seconds can be

  • It gives me goosebumps. Sublime.

    Sigh......

  • love this movie too

    this movie is sooo moving

  • A masterpiece.

  • Philip Glass is a genius, the music was superb! the imagery of her head above water has stayed with me long after my first viewing. Haunting, yet beautiful.

  • THIS IS ART!!!

  • ..at its best. :)

  • To look life in the face, always, to look life in the face, and to know it for what it is at last, to know it to love it for what it is, and then to put it away " Words do not exist to be able to explain what I feel whenever I watch this film

  • I agree.

    Have you read the book?

  • Yes, I read the book ! Literatu
