If you reduce the size of the final ball (the one fired) you exert the same potential energy into something with less mass and can achieve a higher velocity. I'd love to see this done with a series of berings slowly reducing in size.
thats nothing like what a gauss rifle would really be like, gauss is a measure of and amount of energy equal to 1-10000th of a tesla if a gauss rifle were real it would probably be similar to the gauss rifle in FO 3 and FO:NV just the actual thing would burn and shock whomever would be foolish enough to stand in its way, leading to the conclusion that first of all IT WOULD NOT SHOOT A METAL BALL
@AlexanderVetrili Because units of measurement alone can cause damage to people... To do what you are exlaining means shooting something spherical and metal (ZOMFUCKINGG a metal ball) at roughly the speed of light squared, give or take a few trilion miles per second.
to the maker of the video, this is realy awesome. keep making videos. (if you are taking suggestions, i would like to see a shot gun effect and shoot 3-4 with one trigger pull.) if not disregard the fool who is bugging you.
@tronoification dude. no offense, but u have no idea what ur talking about. theoretically, light speed is the maximal speed that anything can travel at, and thats only applicable in the vacuum of space, 0 friction and thats 299 792 458 meters per second (a quick google search tells you that). as you can see, that's no where near several TRILLION MILES per second. but yes, the video is pretty cool.
@Ir0nF1st924 the force of the impact of the first magnet at the trigger being pulled into the other magnets is transferred to the last magnet resulting in it being shot out
@JAEProductions1 Essentially yes. It uses electromagnetic forces to rapidly accelerate an object the further along the length of the shaft it moves. Thus, as long as the design is consistent, an electromagnetic rifle becomes exponentially more effective the greater its length is. Theoretically speaking, a gauss gun a bit bigger than heavy artillery could fuck shit up.
@Gilithus It should be noted that a Gauss rifle using a solenoid only applies a force on the projectile until exactly halfway through its length (if current remained in the wire, the projectile would oscillate). This is compensated by complicated timing systems, however it is very difficult due to the residual induced charge that remains on the coil. This issue is often fixed by the use of a heavy duty capacitor which dissipates its stored charge before the halfway point of the solenoid.
@avak5 If you are referring to Fallout's Gauss Rifle, it does not fire plasma - it fires 2mm bullets rapidly accelerated by advanced Gaussian coils. A 9mm pistol is barely effective in real life compared to an assault rifle, so obviously 2mm's on its own wouldn't do shit. But, due to the electromagnetic acceleration, the 2mm bullet is extremely powerful due to what is essentially momentum, causing intense hydrostatic shock. Just picture what a 9mm Gauss rifle could do 0.0
When we perfect magnetic weapons they'll be with extremely powerful electromagnets which take quite a bit of electricity in short more pollution through fossil fuels.
I wouldnt take that in a combat situation. Id be spending 15 minutes trying to rearrange the magnets, than another hour trying to find ones i knocked off trying to reset it.
@callanrockslol This isn't a rail gun. A rail has two rails as a track for a projectile that is conductive and each rail has a seperate charge. When the conductive projectile completes the circuit it creates an electromagnet and causes a force upon the projectile. Yes, the militart has been testing railguns and most recently the US Navy has broken the world record for energy used and the military has been testing since WWII, but nothing hand held because of energy vs size restraints.
He is shooting his wifes Wolfgang Puck pan (*notice the cutting board on the trash bag) and doesn't want her to know it was him. Nice cheap plastic watch BTW. I do like the stain job, but don't agree with the trigering mechanism (Gravity fed). What if you want to shoot something at a higher angle?
wow. the story i write uses a similer technology. but instead of a series of kinetic transference modules, the "guns" use a series of small super magnets, which as the negatively charged, bullet shaped round passed each magnet set, the micro-computers in the weapon reverse the magnets polarity. each time this happens, the round gains more power and velocity. magnums use this in conjunction with old style gunpowder shells. shotguns do not use this system at all because it would need at least 5
@CatsRuleDogsAreTards barrels, which would be difficult to deal with. hand guns, submachine guns, and rifles are usually very close in shape to early 21st century weapon, meaning they are clip fed, but are aesthetically different on the outside. see the advantages to technology from the 2400's?
@MsMegajosh you don't have to buy it you can make your own all you need is a magnet like the ones that are in watchs and some magnetic balls and a rail of some sort
It would be more powerful if the first spring which hold the magnet in place in the beginning would be thrown forward by the spring action of the holder... Try it...It'll be like 5X faster.
@pyrosam7 well it is a bullpup weapon (for those who don't know: bullpup is where the firing mechanisim is behind the trigger) so it probably would look like a steyr aug becuase that's the "classic" bullpup weapon
this is a great idea, however there is an issue, you would have to devise a way to not only reload the frontal ball but also how to get the rest back it their proper place. and the USA goverment (or whoever you want to sell it to) probably won't buy it unless it is at least semi automatic. but still very interesting :D
@kilkun an interesting propostion but it would need to be an electro magnet so that when it went back to the front it wouldn't move everything out of the way
I MADE ONE OF THESE ON A MUCH SMALLER SCALE the magnets have 2 metal balls on the front and the one farthest away is in its ground state and when the other ball hits it knocks it out of that state with a fairly great speed it hits the other one causing a chain reaction and each time it speeds up there for shooting the ball at the end with fairly great force. i am only thirteen and no im not a nerd.
It's amazing how Games make these look so Complicated and Difficult, when really they're so simple. All I wonder, is why the Military don't have these in action. I mean, what's not to like about a Silent, Easily Concealed Rifle, which has the potential to punch clean through the Armour of Tanks?
@Retal19 i don't know much about these, but from what i can gather, you'd need a pretty long rifle in order to get one that can punch through a tank's armor. aside from that, the last ball only travels a short distance before being ejected so accuracy has to be terrible. You'd have to extend the barrel even more to achieve better accuracy
