  • "Oh, what fools these mortals be!" — Bill Shakespeare

  • WOW, absolutely awesome, thank you so much for uploading, I am so happy to have this one in my file for safe keeping.

  • those were the days, when men used to walk around in suits, and everything moved faster

  • why is there so much goddamn text

  • when you got a splenter on those they where the size of fishing rods..

  • mind blowing American footage that is some historical shit, i love that American flag.

  • Over 100 mph with sweaters and leather, no brakes and "total-loss" engine oil (all over the track) Gnarly!

  • Ships of wood! Men of iron!

  • when sex was safe and racing was dangerous!

  • This video footage was shot at sheepshead bay NY not in daytona,...daytona never had a board track

  • amazing piece of racing history. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  • Consider that these engines were total loss lubrication system, so oil is spewing out on the track. The longer the race, the more oil there is on the boards. A board would sometimes work loose, and a racer could get "speared" at speed. No brakes on these bikes, either.

  • Blimey, I wish I could hear them!

  • That was when Men were Men and not political queefs

  • This is a great video!

  • The spectators in the infield are just as ballsy for standing so close with no wall between them and the bikes. And the flagman....psycho.

  • Grandpa was a two wheel man in the teens, probably better he was in the war and not the track!

  • is this all indians?

  • thats a lot of wood

  • Thank you for this Video !!!

  • The next time you think that you have a big sack for pulling off an insane move on a motorcycle, refer back to this video and be humbled by your great-grandfather's much larger sack of walnuts. It's amazing that ANY of these riders survived this sort of environment-no wonder virtually all of these tracks were gone by the mid-'30s.

  • Film states this was at Daytona, which is a mistake because there are no records of a large board track in Florida. Most probably this was filmed at Sheepshead Bay, New York 2 mile board track on October 11th, 1919.

  • @mfbarnes52 the original video itself says it was a 1 mile track in Daytona. Note that these tracks were often part of fairs and fairgrounds therefor you would not find records of many of them by searching for any kind of race track. They would be in the details of a separate event. Historical records indicate there were 18 U.S. board tracks listed as fairgrounds and sideshows of other events while only 5 were built as actual permanent race tracks.Board tracks did not take very long to construct

  • @mfbarnes52 you will also find in the historical records that the series that what we now know as Indycars raced on several board tracks, in fact board tracks out-numbered dirt track ovals for a time - when it came to indycar racing.

  • As others have said, thank you for posting this. I also thank you for not adding any soundtrack, but rather posting it as it was found. I do with they recorded sound back then though.

  • fantastic !! i never thought i,d see such good footage of these brave hardy maniacs-the inland fighter pilots of the pioneer days-

cannonball baker, slivers boyd, fealess balke and the terrible swede-what days they must have been!!

  • What a treat that was.........thank you for uploading this great video!!! I never thought I'd get to see actual footage of board track racing. What a frightening prospect to go at break-neck speeds on slippery wooden surfaces........

  • This is unbelievable footage....THANK YOU...but let me get this strait, the whole racetrack and banked...are made out of wood? OMG!!!

  • Speed records that were set on board tracks still stand today.

  • Wow they were fearless back then and a bit crazy to. great vid.

  • My understanding is that there never was a board track in Daytona and that this is incorrectly labeled. There was a board track in Fulford-Miami, but I don't know that it had motorcycle racing. Regardless, this film is precious historical record.

  • Bah, its nothin' but Injun propaganda... :)

    Great Vid, awesome find.

  • Thanks for posting this. Anyone know where in Daytona Beach the board track was located? I've been going to Bikeweek for 45 years and never knew this existed.

    JG

  • what a treat...thanks for sharing

  • Wow! What a movie! Tank you very much for sharing. What could be the speed of the bikes? 100 miles? Very nice.

  • INDIAN - Kickin' Harley ass since 1905 ...
