Circumcision is nothing but a surgery where only excess labia minora is removed ( or some times clitoral hood too ) .Search for Labiaplasty for this surgery. There are reports in the Sunnah which indicate that circumcision for women is prescribed in Islam. In Madeenah there was a woman who circumcised women and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to her: Do not go to the extreme in cutting; that is better for the woman and more liked by the husband. Narrated by Abu Dawood (5271), classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

You see, some Jahiliya (period before Islam) practices that took place were forbidden, some were altered, and some stayed the same. YOu can consider this practice as having stayed the same, with the restriction of not cutting too severely.
There is also a hadith that mentions that when the two circumcised parts touch (that is, the circumcised part of the man, and the circumcised part of the women) then ghusl becomes obligatory. circumcision is still permissible.

women's circumcision is NOT sunnah neither was it prohibited, it was a culture in the arab world before islam hence calling the private areas (khitan) for both male's and female's in the hadith. It is only practiced in Egypt and Sudan and some African NON MUSLIM tribes,nonetheless all Sunni scholars have advised not doing it, reasons (some listed by drm313)

"Scud" replied to me FMG does not exist in Qur'an, but hijab does (and he is wrong, partially). He states Muhammad was neither Sunni or Shiite (correct), and the Sunnis changed because of the Shiites (what this has to do with FMG I have no idea).
24:31 says to cover the chest (bosom), not the hair. The primary hijab in Qur'an is for those who are not guided, whose hearts wear a hijab, preventing them from ever seeing the truth (17:45)

Circumcision is nothing but a surgery where only excess labia minora is removed ( or some times clitoral hood too ) .Search for Labiaplasty for this surgery. It is available in UK/US hospitals for $3K . What we should do is to make the surgery legal and give hospitals instructions how to do it.

As stated previously, for an adult to choose this procedure is their choice, and while I am against that choice, I defend their right to choose.
To force such an action upon a child is a criminal act, as you are denying that person's right to choose. As these acts are done mostly WITHOUT anesthesia, this is just plain wrong.

In Madeenah there was a woman who circumcised women and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to her: Do not go to the extreme in cutting; that is better for the woman and more liked by the husband. All it proves is that humans are tribal, and that we evolved. Religion disproves itself every day because the moderates aren't following to the letter (as required by doctrine). Even though moderates in any religion are way easier going, and actually are BETTER for society, they aren't following. Besides this, all religions claim to at least some degree that "Other religions are teaching false doctrine", some to greater degree as well. Religious texts don't match = NOT the "word of god" All BAD

You see, some Jahiliya (period before Islam) practices that took place were forbidden, some were altered, and some stayed the same. YOu can consider this practice as having stayed the same, with the restriction of not cutting too severely.
There is also a hadith that mentions that when the two circumcised parts touch (that is, the circumcised part of the man, and the circumcised part of the women) then ghusl becomes obligatory. circumcision is still permissible.

Female CIRCUMCISION is not a sunnah, or wajid, or fard even, but it is permissible as the prophet (saws) said to an old women who was going around circumcising the women : cut, but not too severely. as it is better for the women and more desirable for the man.

It depends. There is a verse in the Qur'an that states that Allah created everyone in the best form and the body shouldn't be changed except an important reason such as a medical one. Also, in Islam is is said the clitoris's sole purpose is for female gratification so it FGM would be pointless.

The bigger picture, the ROOT cause is religion itself. Man's history and pre- history has proven that humans have this natural tendancy for a " Us against THEM" type of mentality on many fronts. It's done here on this particular subject on the religious and the sexual front. It's all about control, that's strictly what tribalism is about.. You do THIS or you're going to hell. The formation of religions are the hallmark of tribalism. I cannot wait 2 see Islams face when our evolution is proven.

Funny how people throughout the ages have said that their particular time period was the worst in history because people don't follow God's command. You'd think after all these thousands of years there would be at least a day or two when things weren't completely wrong in the world. Guess we're overdue for a big asteroid in the face or something. The prophet did not have relations with children. Most of his wives were middles aged or older, and Aisha was past puberty, the mark for womanhood by all cultures at that time.

1. Why are Christians in here arguing against the quran and muslim beliefs (you should be ashamed of yourselves.
2. to the person who stated Christians are liars that was very worng of you to say the bible forbids it.... some people lie and are christians but christians as whole do not lie it goes against the teachings of Jesus Christ out lord (and now I don't want to debate jesus whether jesus us our lord).

I commend your politeness, and yes you are right about the Hijab. Difference of opinion among Muslim scholars whether face, hands and feet should be covered. However, all agree that the rest of the body should be covered in front of strange men.

I think most disagreement here comes from the word veil.... I mean as to veil the body or hair.... not a piece of cloth over ones face... I am not muslim so my understanding of the Quran is limited but I believe it says a woman is to cover her hair, neck and chest.... take head scarf and tuck it into the head whole (sorry don't know right word) so as to cover the neck and chest... I don't believe it says anywhere that a woman must cover her face, but I haven't read the whole Quran

I am christian.... Mary was a modest woman. She dressed modestly. In all representations I have seen of her she also covered her hair... just like muslem women do.... Traditionally Nun's also Veil themselves covering their bodies and hair in modesty.
The bible tells us to be modest.... society influences us not to be.
