On this record the songs have an own personality. This record is heavy but also very melodic, and kicks major ass. Look at the old Slayer, "South of Heaven" album, now look at this. Reign in Blood is of course a classic that can't be compared to this, but the album South of Heaven isn't even good at all, exept for the title track and Mandatory Suicide. What I mean is that on the newer Slayer records, ALL of the songs are great. On their old albums (exept Reign in blood) they have some very good songs and some bad songs.
