Simon wasn't that harsh. While the performance was very entertaining, it was so gaudy. "Horrible" may have been the wrong word, but I hit it on the head with "gaudy." Because that's more along the lines of what it was. Nonetheless, Clay is awesome!
Gaudy in what way? The way Clay dressed, danced, or sang? His outfit was relatively simple, the little hip moves were just his style (always trying to have fun with a song), and his singing was incredible.
I didn't think it was as bad as Simon was saying, but the falsetto parts were not great. I don't think Simon liked the hip gyrations. Funny that he would be fixated on that.

I just bought Clay's "A Thousand Different Ways" and it hardly sounds like him. Clay is an way above average singer and he doesn't sound nearly as good as he is??? Does anyone else feel this way????
i know exactly what you mean!!! In Fact, i left a comment on a video a while ago (i don't remember whiche one) saying the EXACT same thing!!! I said that Clay has never sounded as good as he has on AI because of mixing and editing. They should record all of his songs live with no computers and remixing! But i'm glad someone finally understands what i mean and feels the same way!!!
