Ronald immediately rushed back to Birmingham Alabama, and went to her mom's house. Ronald says "Cathy somehow got out of bed and hugged and kissed me. I put her back in bed because she was in a lot of pain. Then she said "I'm so sorry we didn't have kids". I said "Dont worry, we'll do that later". She said "I don't think so". She died that night"............Edwin "Kiddo" Nyairo (OldSkoolFunk&Soul).
Ronald LaPread says Lionel captured everything he was feeling. "The studio was very quiet when they did the final version, and when they finished we were all crying". A few weeks later Cathy got out of the coma, and the Commodores went for their British tour a few weeks later. During the tour, while in Glasgow, Scotland they received a phone call from Cathy's mother saying Cathy was in a coma.....Edwin "Kiddo" Nyairo (OldSkoolFunk&Soul).
The Commodores were already recording tracks for their latest album "The Commodores" and they got Cathy's words and Ronald LaPread and Lionel Ritchie together put some lyrics to finish the song. Lionel Ritchie says that was a sad time for all of them as they had to be at the recording studio while their best friend Cathy was in hospital in a coma. And when Ronald came to the studio with her poem they looked at the words and asked him "what's it called?", Ronald said "Its like..Zoom." Edwin Kiddo
This track by Commodores "Zoom" has a sad lining to it. It was written by the Commodores bass guitarist Ronald LaPread's ailing wife, Cathy in 1976. His wife was suffering from terminal cancer and she would pen her emotions, her fears and what the future would hold. She sadly passed on in 1977 at the age of 23 yrs.......Edwin "Kiddo" Nyairo (Old SkoolFunk&Soul group)
@13ewf Wow..thanx for the info...this song reminds me of my brother who died of brain cancer 3 yrs ago...he was young as well...he was and still is a beautiful soul..

@Jaylasplenty ~ I just looked at your vacation video.. Nice video.. But don't you already have children?.. If so, are you looking for a husband in men who also has children?
I really do feel like this most of the time. I really was feeling it when I had a cubical job. I've since been delivered...but I would still like to zoom.

For some music bring bad memeories back..BUT NOT FOR ME I LOVE THIS JAM !!!! LIFE WAS AND STILL GR8 !!!
@dluvwestcoastdrummer they disiked it maybe coz they dont know bout old music im 18 n i love old music cant deal with the music these days its bullshit
I love this song.... my mom has a bunch of old records i dont even like new music and i was born in 1977 when this came out...what happened to music its not the same...
I always wondered why they didnt title this Album normally most bands self title their first album, but by 1977 this was like there 4th or 5th LP. But this was the album that Took them to the TOP. Great LP back when you didnt have to cuss on a song to say how you felt. Does anyone remember the Free Poster that came with the album? It was the same as the back of the LP with the group but just in B&W.
TEDDY PENDERGRASS, MARVIN GAYE, BARRY WHITE, TINA TURNER, LISA STANSFORD, HALL & OATES, TYRONE DAVIS, THE STAPLES SINGERS, JEFFREY OSBOURNE, DAVID RUFFIN, GLENN LEWIS, BOOTSY COLLINS, GEORGE DUKE, D-TRAIN, ZAPP, PRINCE, BILLY PAUL, GEORGE BENSON, NEW EDITION, SWV, XSCAPE, EN VOUGE
THE COMMODORES, LTD, THE TEMPTATIONS, DeBARGE, THE JACKSONS, THE O'JAYS, THE SPINNERS, THE WHISPERS, THE GAP BAND, EWF, OHIO PLAYERS, LAKESIDE, MIDNIGHT STARR, AVERAGE WHITE BAND, ATLANTIC STARR, HAROLD MELVIN & THE BLUENOTES, THE ISLEY BROTHERS, SWITCH, PARALAMENT, SLAVE, GUY, SIMPLY RED, LUTHER VANDROSS, TEVIN CAMPBELL, IMMATURE, AARON HALL, R.KELLY(OL SKOOL), BOYZ 2 MEN
when i listen to songs like this i just say to myself what the hell HAPPENED to present music today. I think i no there are no groups over 20 coming out the only thing record companies seem to push and promote are 20 and under. the hell with 30 and over crown who want to hear quality music. WE NO SEX SELLS thats the only thing they seem to sing about not love owe well.
This is one of the realest songs I've ever heard. I have requested from everyone in my circle to play this at my funeral. May be morbid to some but listen to the words.
This song came out during the time the black community was trying to bring themselves together with family, friends, and neighbors. The 70's was a prideful time, it was about cook outs, perfectly picked afros, stylish bell bottoms, smoking weed, playing spades, and custom made vans became very popular. I was very young but I remember all these things that I speak the best decade growing up until the 90's. The 70's was the baby making boom also all the good artist was coming out with great hits!
Ultra-great frickin' tune from the old cool school of romantic soul. Excellent. Lionel was in his prime in these years far as I'm concerned. Thanks RUMnWINE; this was a 'pick-me-up.
I was maybe 15 or 16 when this album came out. Lord, what memories from back then...
grown folks music plain and simple im 17 and i know good music when i hear it this is a good example i feel bad for my peers who are around my age they have no idea what music is.

THIS IS THE MUSIC THAT MADE ME THINK AND DREAM ABOUT LIFE AND THE THINGS AROUND ME. TO BE CREATIVE . I WILL ALWAYS KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHAT I CHOOSE AND WHAT'S FORCE UPON ME.

@dluvwestcoastdrummer // NO IT'S CUZ ...of 1 of 2 things /// no.# 1) THEY ARE TOO YOUNG & STUCK ON 2K MUSIC (that sounds the same to everyone from 6 to 96 ) or # 2) LIFE SUCKED AND THEY WERE JUST LIKE THAT OLD 7-11 COMERICAL WHEN THE NICE GENTLEMAN SAID " GOOD MORNING " ,, they just turn around to u and roared ! For some music bring bad memeories back..BUT NOT FOR ME I LOVE THIS JAM !!!! LIFE WAS AND STILL GR8 !!!

It was the same as the back of the LP with the group but just in B&W.

when i listen to songs like this i just say to myself what the hell HAPPENED to present music today.

May be morbid to some but listen to the words.
gpeele59 2 months ago
@gpeele59, I don't think it's morbid. It is REAL, as you said. When my time on earth is through, I've asked the same of my family. Peace.
