@TheSmar09 The tom is lower than the snare and the camera is at a downward angle; so they look closer together then they really are. When the camera goes low, you can see that the kick isn't hitting the tom, so it isn't rim to rim like it looks from the top.

Man, another Brazilian drummer here, and one more tip: The rhythm of bossa nova is not a square as in rock, the rhythm should sound always broke, not having it, it's swing.

My friend......use this advice from a fellow brasilian drummer...... Bossa Nova is a TWO beat rythm (as most of brazilian rythms). It'll always sound as having a backbeat, if you play it with four.
Two beats.....first is a light one, second is the hard one. And that's it. Thinking about the 16th notes it would be... 'for one.....for ONE.....for one.....for ONE.....with your bass drum....and so it goes. You HAVE to think about, to feel these TWO beats going on.
