i keep my hair, but i dont do paath. i go to the gurdwara occasionally, and dont have a solid love of my religion as others. i believe and trust in god nonetheless. a prime reason why i keep my hair is basically the cons of cutting it outweigh the benefits. call me a bad sikh but i feel this is the situation of 50% of sikh teens nowadays, and there is unfortunately just no way to address it other than the 'spiritual self-awakening' which can only happen to the lucky ones..
hmm...i think mr singh could have give more...in regards to defending his faith!...or rather OUR faith...but i think he tried to depict sikhs as being nice..or in this case...TOO nice...and sometimes you cant please eveyone!..not even your friends!...Our Gurus taught us to be physically strong, not jus mentally..or spriritually..so we can stand up against injustice and defend the weak...but some sikhs cant even defend themselves...or give in too easily when a challenge seems to hard to complete..
sikhs have been a victim of many hate attacks regarding 911, but that should NOT give you the reason to not be who you are! you could have been born something else, somewhere else..other than where you are, but you havent! God has put you where you are now for a reason, but it is up to you to find out why!..look in the mirror khalsa...because you can never run away from who you are...and when you let go of the fakeness...you will be happy...more than you ever could have possibly thought!....WKWF
a fact not fully understood by most people is long hair and beards connect one to more energy truth energy and strength, remember the tale of samson n delia, the us army even did a study that proved once your hair is cut short you loose sensitivity to the enviroment and touch with spiritual realms dumbing you down.
Interesting POV. We still need 2 reason & rationalize what's important, what's not, what's right and wrong..SGGS is always the rule book 2 come back 2. Little is black & white. Read Jap Ji from an outsiders point of view, pretty amazing & answrs some of the Qs. Hatred, unfairness, ego, anger were not the answer. May need to take a step back and be WEARY of quick judgment..We aren't the Gurus, but definitely can learn from them! Get over yourself, and get with the SGGS.
@thezombiekiller87 Quite honestly, most people aren't that strong. It's unfortunate but you work with it. Egoism is the biggest problem Khes dhari Sikhs have, where my grandpa, father and all amrit dhari sikhs were gentle souls, without judgement and Genuinely loved all why I keep my Khes. Most kids are forced too... they have no spiritual connection with the Guru, they do it because dad made him/her. VERY SAD.
the clean shaved actor stole the show, both acting and the character. also the points he brought up were much stronger in arguement than those in favor of a sikh beard.
@a004 I have a beard and I honestly clapped when this video was first shown at a film festival about a year ago. "Love comes with a Condition" SO true and so darn unfortunate.
As a Khesdhari Singh, I can tell you unfortunately in many Sikh households, Love comes with a condition. I have known a few of my friends who have cut the Khes and been cut off by family. Very, Very sad.
@Mrgruntastic Is it not sad that four young children gave their lives? Is it not sad many hundreds and thousands of Sikhs gave their lives for kes? What is the point of Guru Har Rai abolishing Ram Rai from his Darbar for changing one line of Gurbani to please Aurangzeb? Guru Har Rai Sahib can do this? Yet it is sad when parents abandon their children for cutting their hair? This is a HISTORICAL PRINCIPLE IN Sikhism.
@angeloital19 again todays problem of LOOKING like a Sikh and not BEING a Sikh. All you are are worried about is the IMAGE. I would die happily to protect Sikhi, I would also LOVE all, Courage isn't something you can PUT ON, it has to come from within. If a young Sikh has a hard time with his Khes then so be it, has hard time. I would NEVER disown my own because he/she cut their Khes, what are we the Mormon church now? Apparently spirituality in Sikhism comes with conditions too HAHAHA
@Mrgruntastic Your logic is deeply flawed. You cannot be a Sikh from the inside without first looking like a Sikh from the outside. One cannot be separated from another. This is the point. Case closed.
@Mrgruntastic Once again, Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji disowned Ram Rai for changing just ONE line of Gurbani. If Guru Har Rai Sahib Jee could do this, why can't you? Are you better than him? Are you more wise than him, by saying, "okay Guru Har Rai Sahib you did that to keep Sikhi principles in tact, but I disagree and am not going to." Wow, so modern day Sikhs disagree with their Gurus now, great example you're setting!
@angeloital19 haha Go ahead and disown your children I won't and the odds of my children keeping their khes out of GENUINE love for their panth will be a lot greater than it would be keeping them in line with fear. You hard liners are CRAZY.
@Mrgruntastic My children would never do it, and I am not a hardliner. It's not about fear or anything else. Children have to be raised with some sentiment for history, you choose to ignore it. Interesting you don't have a response for my message about Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji. Either you agree with Guru Sahib or you don't. By your definition Guru Har Rai Sahib was a hardliner then?
@angeloital19 Your Children would never do it because they are scared, free will doesn't exist in your household apparently. What PROOF do you have of this history? Siri Guru Granth Sahib ji is the Guru I bow my head to not some stories I am def not going to take advice from a person would instantly cast out his/her children if the THOUGHT of cutting their khes came up, much less actually doing it.. I'm assuming after YOU took Amrit, you all of a sudden became 'PURE' lolz.
@Mrgruntastic "would instantly cast out his/her children if the THOUGHT of cutting their khes", you're putting words in my mouth, I never did actually say this. The PROOF you ask for is for the MOST CITED story in Sikh history, clearly you're very uneducated in these matters, since a person who would presumably raise his children to believe in Guru Granth Sahib Ji would certainly teach them FROM SGGSJ that cutting hair is wrong, as SGGS is rife with examples of this.
@Mrgruntastic Further proof of this history, which is shameful that you even need proof, but you asked, so here it is: Read "GURU KIAN SAKHIAN BY SARUP SINGH KAUSHISH", originally published in 1790. Further, Piara Singh Padam published the second edition in 1986. Once again, the proof to your ignorant comments is there, take 2 seconds to look for it.
@angeloital19 Sure, I choose not to hate my children if they (highly unlikely) leave sikhi. You can bring me proof all day, that's fine. I CHOOSE NOT to hate someone for quitting or anything. You know, compassion. Most Sikhs lack these days.
@Mrgruntastic Okay fine then. You are calling Guru Har Sahib without compassion, and saying that he was wrong for what he did. Face Guru Granth Sahib Jee now with that much arrogance.
@Mrgruntastic Okay. So Guru Har Rai Sahib Jee was wrong in your opinion. I don't know why you're dancing around so much. According to you he was right for banishing his first-born son Ram Rai from his darbar, or he was wrong for doing so. Which is it?
if this type of thing happens to me !!!!!!!!!! Waheguru (God) plz give me enough courage to remain a sikh............. nd i doesnt act like that stupid fellow....
