  • John denver sounds better live than all of singers live or on radio seriously

  • He puts 99.9% of all singers today to shame. Such a pure, clear, clean voice.

  • I was a huge fan of John's. I hadn't head this song in ages then found it a few days ago. We need more musicians like him today. Miss you, John.

  • I think Simon Cowell has ruined today's music.

  • man where did music go, i know it sounds so cliche now, but it really isn't around anymore, its just noise, no passion or soul

  • @airnsmke I think it's just because everything now-a-days is cheap & fast. Get in, make a buck, get out. There are few artists these days - voices are autotuned, live performers lipsync, & the lyrics to the "songs" are about the dark side of life & getting things (& people) cheap & fast. John Denver & other singer-songwriters of his day were truly artists. They could convey feelings and share emotion with you - the common experiences we all share. We could use some of that these days.

  • @airnsmke It's still there, but it's all out on the fringes...many talented musicians / singers / songwriters on YouTube, public radio, etc. As for mainstream, beats hell out of me...

  • every day i'm back on youtube (a great invension(y) to loo john denver

  • Denver was always so special when he did live versions of his songs. In this case, I am amazed with how mature his voice became over time. Nevertheless, the original studio version has a special nostalgia all its own.

  • ....lived for years in Colorado, now in Wisconsin, my home state. Listening to this makes me determined to move back to colorful Colorado......

  • This is one of my favorite songs by John, but every song he did was good. He was taken from us way to soon. He left so much of his spirit with us like this wonder concert.

    He will be so missed.

Thank-you again for sharing this with us.

  • I had the opportunity to see John in concert in Santa Ynez Valley with the mountains as a backdrop.Very befitting of his music. a few years later, i married a man from Colorado. When he took me back there, i was privilaged to see first hand the beauty of those mountains from which he got his inspiration

  • i had the wonderful opportunity to see John in concert in Santa Ynez valley a few years before he died. Later i married a man from colorado, and the first time he took me back there, i could see firsthand the beauty of the mountains that gave him his inspiration. He is sorely missed

  • who wouldn't rather be in Colorado?

  • When I started to play guitar in 1972 I learned just about all of John's songs. I went on to play guitar and bass for many bands from country to death metal but I always come back to my roots and play John's songs. It was John Denver that actually got my wife to go out with me. May John rest in peace.

  • GONE TOO SOON...............

  • I miss John being in the world, but at least we will always have his wonderful music to cherish.

  • @oooSierra Yes we will, I have spent a JD day. I have watched videos, listened and cried. Maybe because he is gone, maybe because I love his music or both. Us women are a wierd group!!! Miss ya John

  • @ILINGBEAR i have been having one of those listen to John Denver and cry days myself. I have only been to Colorado twice, but i actually ache to be there in those mountains. His music is so honest and deep, we women are not the wierd ones. those are the ones who don't appreciate his music

  • Lyrical Genuis..the man is missed. Thank You John for your breif time with us.

  • this was the first song i've heard with Mr John Denver.. i heard it when i was a kid, maybe 8 or 9 years old, and i was hooked instantly. he was in one of the episodes of the tv series "McCloud" in the late 70s if my memory serves me right. he was a sheriffs deputy or something like that. when he started to play that guitarr and sing.. wow! i've loved him ever since. thank you for this trip on nostalgy lane. =)

  • @EnsamTrubadur I remember that episode now!!

  • I have been in Colorado since1960.......i would'nt live anywher else........I will die here

  • What a song. He's gone back to the Great Spirit now though.

  • I miss John Denver. I still listen to his music. I'm lucky - had the privlege of meeting him in person after a concert in Houston one time.

  • i wana deacate this to my mother in law helen m foster

    she loved john denver

and i also deacate this to my wonderful husband

    mitchell d foster

    i love ya both !!!

  • I am in Colorado! Hahhah! Home state.

  • John Denver, an American classic. A very cool tune and being a guitar player, I could only hope to sound so tasteful. I'll be looking up Pete Huttlinger as well. Thanks for posting!

  • I had only two chances to see you live in Sydney and Bangkok. One day I heard your song in the radio unexpectedly, I was glad then a minute later the D.J. said in the radio that you passed away, without knowing I started crying. I miss you man my real idol. Follow all your songs more than 20 years. Your songs and your music are always with me everywhere I go.

  • @joypoohpk You.....just said it all. We shall follow John Denver's steps to Heaven someday. :)

  • Thanks John, we miss you man!

  • Got to see him twice. Once with Lee Holdridge and the orchestra, once just him. Still brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you so much for the memories John..You are sorely missed. May peace be always be with you.

  • scotty moore - he played guitar for Elvis

  • After 1 year of living with us, Dad has decided to move back to Colorado again. We will miss him, but I know it is where he really wants to be.

  • I've been trying to decide which one of Johns songs I want to play and post right now I'm thinking this one.

  • Thank you for posting this...looked for it forever. As beautiful , pure and honest as music gets.

  • John Denver (Henry John) Rocks! If you love acoustic guitar and pure voices you gotta love JD!

There is no contemporary to compare except for maybe Jewell...

  • What a great song. The melody and guitar accompanyment are amazing! I became a Henry John fan early in life, (1960's) still love to listen and play his musice today.......

  • thankfully I do not live in the city, but I do live in the suburbs in the most populous state in the country(New Jersey). I often listen to this song because I sure as hell would rather be in Colorado lol...

  • Gorgeous song.

  • The wonderful guitarist is Jim Burton. John introduced him at the beginning of Country Roads.

John is one heck of a guitarist in his own right. I miss him always.

  • Whilst James Burton is a wonderfull guitar player The Man on this occasion !!! wasmy friend the even more wonderfull Pete Hutlinger

  • Actually Pete Huttlinger is the one playing with JD on this song. Wonderful guitarist. James Burton also plays on the WLC but not on this song- obviously talented in his own right.

  • @puck57

You are correct, puck57. However, on Country Roads, James Burton performed because John said so. Both are very musicians in their own right. I am glad we got that straightened out, hehe.

  • A beautiful song about a beatiful place. There is no place like the West and no singer like John Denver.

  • Boy those Taylors sound sweet.

  • hey windsong, i notice this version is slightly different than the audio only version from wildlife concert recordings.... any idea where i can this exact version downloaded so i can take with me? :)

  • legend rip

  • JD's songs are bittersweet- they are so beautiful but sad at the same time- I miss him!

  • Yes it is Pete Huttlinger. He has his own website he is one of the best guitarists popular now.

  • Who is that wonderful guitar player accompanying John?

  • I think it's Pete Huttlinger

  • @windsong1962 yes, it's Pete Huttlinger

  • @windsong1962 Correct! He has a wonderful solo.

  • @paace scotty moore - he also played for elvis at one point

  • @paace It is indeed Pete Huttlinger, an amazing guitarist.

  • @paace - Yes. It's Pete.

  • @paace You can get the Pete Huttlinger Teaches... DVDs and learn that solo direct from Pete. He was John's accompanist for many years toward the end of John's career. Get the 4 DVD set, it's a lot cheaper to get it all at once.

  • God his voice and music were so beautiful

  • Does anyone have any idea what happened to massassa2008, one of the biggest JD fans on youtube, who posted tons of JD videos and also froy2, both loved John Denvers music. It seems strange that both of their accounts are suddenly suspended, doesn't it? What's up? I really miss their John Denver videos! Youtube is empty without them.

  • WikdAlaska- Masassa is back as Masassa2009. There were copyright problems and the '08 was suspended but she's BACK!!! Just put in Masassa2009 and you will find her again.

  • according to the comments here, there is a tv movie about John and Annie,s live ,it starts from the moments John gets his first guitar end end when John takes of for his last flight in his own plain . it,s called "take me home country roads" I,m not sure it,s available on dvd, I recorded it from tv. It explanes a lot

  • Such a beautiful man.

  • I agree that John and Annie were good friends again by the time he died, but nothing I've heard either of them say indicate that it was anything more than friendship. Believe what you want if it gives you comfort.

  • JD, may he RIP.

  • GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • John Denver....A Great Man.

  • After hearing John talk and sing about Colorado, I've made my mind up that I am going to go to Aspen. I just want to walk where John walked and to all the things he sang about in his songs. It must be a magical place. He loved Colorado and I want find out why. John you are at peace now in your beloved Colorado.

  • It is a magical place. I live in western Oklahoma and we visit Colorado all the time. I have a cousin who lives west of Denver. It is so beautiful there that it defies description...You just have to see it for yourself. If you do go there, you won't be disappointed.

  • Thanks, Suki40330. I guess you can't help but fall in love with such a beautiful place. Surely a part of John must be there still...

  • As I'd written in another of my posts, I was able to go to take my bike to Colorado this past fall. I spent an entire morning just watching as the angle of the sun's changed the mountains. Estes Park is a great place also...you can drive over the tops of the the mountain on Trail Ridge. You will not be disappointed.

  • Thank you, wintersportster. I can't wait to go!

  • I married in 2007 for my 1st time and we honeymooned in Manitou, Colorado. We went up Pike's Peak and spent time in the Rockies. It had always been my dream, thanks to John's songs, stories, charities. The experience lived up to all that and more. It won't be our last time to visit Colorado.

  • I grew up (a long way from CO) with my older brother singing John Denver songs and listening to his 8-track tapes! I stayed in Manitou Springs for 2 wks in August '95. I saw the AF Academy, Pike's Peak, Garden of the Gods, Col Springs, Royal Gorge (!!) and other things. It was amazing. Went back through on way to Calif in 11/01 and stayed only 2 days. Lasting memories and dream about going back, too.

  • Me too. I think that many feel this way. Thank you for putting it into words.

  • @janeaustinadmirer Possibly the Beauty of it??

  • I;m not sure he knew how much everyone loved him, on the old vcr me and my toddler son used to watch the wildlife concert over and over taped off of A and E, and he died so suddenly, it's sad to me, not just that he's gone, but that I think he felt alone

  • I agree that he didn't know just how loved he was. His ex-wife, Annie said he would have been totally surprised at the outpouring of love and sadness that was expressed when he died. That is very sad to me. I hope he knows now. It is also sad that he didn't get to experience strong, lasting love. After his second marriage, he was afraid to get truly involved and seemed lonely indeed. The price of fame: never knowing who to trust.

  • "lasting love"? Sometimes love isn't that simple. The time he had to spend apart from his family really was one of the costs of fame. In the end, its said that Annie did have a lasting love for John, and he for her. Not a perfect love perhaps... few things in this life are perfect, especially people. It is my experience that real and strong love, makes us and breaks us, blesses us and curses us, bends us and shakes us. Without all those experiences, he's have had a lot less to write about...

  • he loved very deeply, which is more than some people know, who aren't famous or are famous! there are also many people who love deeply but are not famous; and it doesn't matter whether you famous or not, it matters what your heart is. I admire JD for not his fame but his spirit and who he was. He is one of my heroes.

  • I miss John

  • timeless, I adore this song.

  • John is eternal in our hearts, no matter time passes by...He'd rather be in the beautiful Colorado, and my dream is to meet this wonderful state one day in life. Being at those gorgeous Mountains would be such a gift from God for me...Yes, I'd ALSO rather be in Colorado!!!!!!!!

  • @andresfranca I am from Colorado and consider it a gift to be born and raised there. It is beautiful there.

  • @57classic1 I'm from Maine, which is beautiful too but Colorado is fantastically beautiful! You are lucky to be from there. I love John Denver too.

  • @andresfranca I live in Colorado... I wouldn't trade it for any other place in the world, and I've been to a lot of beautiful places.

  • I could listen to John Denver all day long [2]... What a difference someone like him made and still making in this planet... infinite precious legacy...

  • wish I could've met him. Such a cool person and such awesome songs.

  • I believe that John somehow knows how much he's missed! I too miss him! I'm so thankful for the wonderful gift of having him here for the time that he was and for the wonderful music he has left behind!! I still listen to him everyday. He is still such a HUGE part of my life and ALWAYS will be. I am a better person because of him. He is in my heart forever. John Denver will live forever in all who loved him and in his music!!!

  • being out of state for college... this song... ah... reminds me that I have to go home!

  • You ARE in Colorado JD over your beloved mountains along with your grandma's guitar- the only way you would be truly at peace- THANKS Annie and the family for making sure it ended with his remains over the Rockies with his guitar- how fitting.

  • I really miss him too.. Saw him in 1971 in NYC

  • i'm so thankful that i met and spoke with him. always my friend.

  • Your very fortunate for that. Where did you have that opportunity?

  • John appeared in Rhode Island 7 times and am proud to say that my wife and i saw him on all occasions. The last 2 times were at a very small venue where we got the chance to chat with him. Something i'll always cherish...

  • Maybe my favorite John Denver song ever.....It's rivaling Rocky Mountain High.....::love::

  • Man, i could listen to John Denver all day long.

  • @goffer232 That's, more or less, what I do! :P

  • I've always been captivated by John Denver and his music. He represented everything that is truly significant and vital in life. When I was young, I remember his singing this song on an episode from the series "McCloud" with Dennis Weaver. It's been years back; I think he played a deputy sheriff. I saw him in concert once; it was truly an amazing experience. Thanks for posting this.

  • gosh i just read your post and i could not agree more...John stood for so many meaningful and just things in life..its in many ways a moral code too live your life bye. Will there EVER be some-one like John again??.I think not..but we have his legacey/his work/and his music.

  • In four years, I hope to end up at mines for grad school here.
