I would, at first blush, agree. However, as I'm sure several other fanboys have told you over the years, they/we come back for a new story. However (again), I don't think that's the case. At least not entirely. They/we come back for the adapted story, new world, gameplay additions and most importantly the PUZZLES. The Zelda franchise is essentially a 3D-rendered puzzle book, and each new game makes (or should) them more complex and engaging.

IE: Portal and Portal 2.

It's hard to call this game my favorite, cause for this one it's not a matter of good or bad, it holds a special place in my heart that nothing could ever take the place of. =( Between Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, and Wind Waker, I have a problem weighing all of their traits against each other. Even though I can't pick a favorite out of these, the Zelda franchise is definitely my favorite gaming series!

@ryandestroy I didn't like it for awhile when I got it. Then like 2 years later I decided to start over because nothing interesting was out on the Xbox and discovered just how fun it was. Was it the best? I always thought that all the big Zelda titles were fantastic breaks from all the shooters that have been coming out. Everyone needs a solid adventure game where there are no automatic rifles, just a bow and a sword :)

@CyraxSnake I know of a good few people who were on the same boat. I personally loved it, along with every Zelda game (except Majora's mask, which sucked ass). I think the music in WW has A LOT to do with my love for it. The music is truly beautiful. I also have found on playing the game recently that it hasn't aged very much (if at all) as the graphics still look awesome, and considering it came out in 2003, that's no mean feat! Can't wait for Skyward Sword, even if the Wii is extremely lame.

Seed of Wisdom, Seed of Power, and Seed of Courage. They were trying to implement a password system between the three games but it turned out to be a little too, for lack of a smarter sounding word, tricky. They trashed Seed of Courage and turned it into two games. Seed of Wisdom becoming Oracle of Ages and Power becoming Oracle of Seasons...
