  • that dismount scared the absolute crap out of me.

  • I'm amazed that she even put the dismount to her feet! It really looked like she was going to land on her knees.

  • OMG! THE MOST PERFECT ROUTINE EVER! THAT DISMOUNT GEEEEZ!

  • such a bad sad luck :((((((((((((((

  • Pause at 1:16

Watch her dismount at the 1990 World Cup

    All fixed :D

  • even though she messed up, you have to admit, that was probably the coolest-looking stumble in gymnastics history!

  • Ive never understood why she messed up her dismount here. Both feet hit the beam when she took off, she was nice & high, why did she under-rotate the dismount?

  • She always gets people to scream when she lands.

  • She really and truly was the complete package on this event, but seemed to have some sort of mental block which led to her not dominating as she was capable of--in Barcelona, the medal standings could also have been very different had she not had a fall.

  • How tragic - she was great! In todays code, she would have been better off falling.

  • has anyone seen a gymnast since who was more flexible??? i seriously can't think of any!!

  • ARGH SUCH A WASTE! :( and she's so fantastic at beam:(

  • Best beam worker of all time.

  • My heart just breaks everytime I watch this historic routine. I wish she would have stuck that landing! She must have played it over and over in her mind so many times. Such a travesty - she deserved that gold medal and lost it in the dismount.

  • This beam routine is my favorite of all time-and I've seen lots of routines. despite the bad landing, this routine is the best of all the routines. I also think the 1989-96 was the best period of gymnastics.

  • If I could go back in time and change one thing, I would cut Yang Bo's BB dismount landing from the AA competition and paste it into this routine. Can you imagine that? But I will still gladly watch this routine over and over even with the botched dismount. It is a gloriously constructed and performed routine.

  • ugh...i love watching her gymnastics...the best form on beam ever. no one is more perfect than her, unfortunately she was never consistant. she deserved more titles on this beam

  • I want to cry when I see her landing T__T

  • There is not one hesitation during that entire routine, save for the dismount. She's so confident up there. Really extraordinary. So nice to see beautiful toe point throughout

  • Yang Bo was so captivating! Dynamic choreography, poised execution and exquisite form. The landing on the dismount is devastating to watch.

However, a 9.80 is too low in my opinion. Olesia Dudnik (who I think is also marvelous) received a 9.937 (!) for a routine with a significant landing mistake and her form throughout was no where nearly as impeccable as Bo.

Bo deserved to tie Dudnik or the bronze at the very least.

  • I loved both routines, but Yang's landing on the dismount was a bit more severe than Dudnik's. I wish she would have hit because her beam is immaculate

  • Tie with Dudnik? Yang Bo is wonderful but with that landing she could not have meddled =( Dudnik had insane difficulty which is why it is very debatable that she should have gotten gold.

  • I love how she smirks after her Rulfova!

  • Its like a look of "Thank God thats out of the way":) Like a smile of relief!!She was exquisite on beam; I think she was born on a balance beam. When she hits nobody could ever equal her grace, poise and sheer courage. This routine defines artistic gymnastics. Breathtaking.

  • ironcally everything on the 4-inch place is perfect, and when it comes to doing something on the floor, she fails =(

imo if she did a 2.5 as her dismount she would have won every beam title in the world

  • It kills me to watch this routine because it is gymnastics genius at the very least and it was something that needed perfection. Not just for herself or for the fans, but for gymnastics history. This is a routine that needed prefect execution and a perfect score for the sake of all gymnastics and its such a shame that she botched the dismount. Oy. The judges would have given her one, too--she got a 9.987 in the team.

  • What would the A score for this routine be in the current code.

  • Yeah..i'm curious to know that too..and what would be her overall score..?

  • That Rulfova was soooo high *-*

  • this routine is very popular...for a reason

  • Loved the aerial front sequence, and she gets such amazing spring in all her elements. For both of her series, the 3rd skill was the highest!

  • Yes, that's what I love about this routine. So much flight in the acro series. And the originality! There is so much code-whoring going on in the current quad I just can't imagine something this fresh entering the scene. I hope some gymnast proves me wrong.

  • @stgybo i hate the phrase "code whoring", makes you sound like a word-whore since we know where you got it from.

  • @BBBgYm Well, ok.

  • I remember witnessing this horror. And she's stumbling so awkwardly, almost like she threw it on purpose.

  • Horror? That's the most perfect beam routine ever not counting the dismount. That "horror" is the best beam worker ever!

  • Er,yeah. The DISMOUNT was horrific. The rest of the routine was perfect.

  • Indedd the dismount was. If she would have stuck she would have one hands down.

  • The dismount was fine - the landing was the bad part :P

  • The dismount was under-rotated, which caused the bad landing....

  • Aaaaaaargh. Yes that fateful beam routine when it was perfect right till the dismount. Even the Japanese commentator couldn't believe what he was seeing!
