This guy wrote soundtracks for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, ET, Jaws, Superman, Schindler's List, 7 years in Tibet, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Hook, Saving Private Ryan.....and several Olympic themes, he is truely more than a legend!!!!
@InflatiblePalmTree Well, you can't expect middle school students to compare to a professional symphony orchestra. I'm sure you did the best you could, though.
@sailorct0123 Oh sorry, but I usually don't use my clarinet everyday. :) Oh, and did I ever mention anything about which instrument was better? You misspelled "loser" by the way.
this is such a cool number to play! I've played marchdrum in a girl-marchingband for many years... This number really gives you a rush while you are playing!!
This is such an amzing song, especially for graduation! I always played it in band for graduation and then when I graduated i got to hear it. It made graduation twice as good.
NBC should use this one more --but they caved and bought the rights to the ABC theme which everybody assumed was the "official theme" when in fact it was commissioned for the alphabet network
John Williams and his music should be celebrated more frequently than every 2 years for an Olympics event. We know he writes for Hollywood movies, BUT, his music is known worldwide and carries a very powerful message in its melodies---especially those for the Olympics---that of peace, brotherhood, and triumph.
Yes. What composer are you thinking of in particular? I have performed Sousa's "El Capitan," "The Invincible Eagle March," "Stars and Stripes Forever" as well as John Klohr's "The Billboard March" and Henry Fillmore's "American's We." I have heard most of these live, or through audio/video, but if you're talking about the common march cut-time or 6/4 tempi, I would disagree that it sounds like a "march" as you stated. I believe it sounds more like a military/film theme.
Just goes to show, YMMV. I won't disagree that there is an OST feel to it, John Williams being who he is - but I think it definitely has Olympic feeling as well.
When I listen to this in sequence with Summon the Heroes (another Williams Olympic-inspired comoposition) and the actual Olympic theme song (Buglers' Fanfare, I believe), it is absolutely kindred to me. And, too, there is that which is martial about the Olympics, when you consider them in honesty.
Outstanding stirring anthem. For many years you would hear this on the BBC coverage of the Grand National in the segment leading up to the big race itself.
i have to play this in band now.. we just got back from summer, and i had no time to practice, now i suck! i have a butt load of high notes too! my band teacher is trying to kill me
I love the Horn parts at the beggining. I played it with the Symphonic Orchestra, in a special event they made, I played the Tympani. The original is a little bit faster that the tempo we played, but it was good enough though. it´s an awesome job by an awesome composer.
I'm soon to be principal trumpet in my orchestra and would love to play this! :-D we tend to play very string-heavy pieces and it would be good to see the trumpets centre stage, haha ;-)
I really wish that my band would play this song. it is the most beautiful song ever composed. I give props to john williams! thumbs up on this comment if you agree!!!
We just got this piece at the beginning of the week for my brass ensamble and have performed it a couple of times already and it is amazing. I do agree with the two before me, trumpets rock. I do have respect for the other instruments too. I mean, somebody has to support us!
We are playing a little tidbit of this song in my HS symphonic band...the whole piece is called "John Williams In Concert" it has a select few of JW's music (ET theme, Mission theme, Imperial march, cantina band, olympic spirit, jaws) and i find the whole thing very fun to play, although by the end i am real tired and can hardly play the last note...idk why, b/c we have played a higher lvl music than that and i am not tired afterwards..but yeah it is still fun and i enjoy every note of it :D
Mensch vielen Dank! - Es gab mal auf YouTube ein Anime-Film dazu und wurde gelöscht :( Das ist endlich mal wieder eine einwandfreie Aufnahme von John Williams' The Olympic Spirit.
Best fanfare I've ever heard! John Williams is a legend..
