my sons and i used to practice our draw by putting a ball in every pocket ,then starting any wheres you want make all balls without touching banks.then as we got very good at control we put balls down the middle of table also same rules but now no banks or balls .it was hard at first but we got real good ball control on draws toucha ball or bank start over

hey man I am new at pool but really want to get into it. Does the cue really make that much difference as far as getting good english on the ball? I dont want to spend $500 on a cue if you can do the same thing with a standard cue. Thanks for your help
@2175hunterboy -- I'm no expert but I used to do table runs in 8-ball games and do lots of draw shots and even routinely do masse shots, jump shots with a $50 cue. I used a 2 piece "sneaky pete" style cue made by the "Player" company with a "Le Pro" tip that comes stock on the cue and costs only $8 to replace. Its a great stick to learn with. Experiment with different cues, shafts (shaft stiffness and TIP diameter) and tip hardness to see what you like.
@forcefollow How high up do you have the butt of the cue ? I have been training to stroke my shots with my cue low and almost level for many shots. So then I tried one time elevating my cue a little and hitting draw shot and it drew allot. Thanks for your time.
Oh man I'm really struggling to get the object ball to come closer than a diamond from the head rail after it bounced off it. I'm struggling with my stroke in general but I seem to miss cue when hitting the cue ball any lower to decrease the amount of force used.
I'm beginning to think I need to invest in a new cue tip since it's used for at least 3-4 years now. Good to have something to blame though. ;) I know this is a old post from you but I always appreciate them! Thanks!
hello forcefollow when the cue ball is at a great distance from the object ball its very difficult for me to get draw is there a certain stroke pethod that u should give which varies a bit from the one u just demonstrated ?
Thanks man. Lovely drill, but unfortunately I don't have my own table to practice. So I'll get dedicate some of time in poolhall.. You are great teacher by the way. I have "awesome" drills by your's videos... Thanks again.. PEACE

Stupid video. Spin back the ball so near is quite easy as an idiot can do. Why don't you put a video when you draw back a ball hit on a full table shot? Ehehe, this is really to difficult for you too...go practice a bit before doing stupid lessons..
Reverse spin is not about the cue... the only element of the cue that will really affect it that much is the quality of the tip. If you have a good tip you're fine. The amount of backspin you're getting is based on having a good cue tip and then just having good technique. If your tip is well chalked and in good condition then it's just your technique.
I agree.. I always use too much strength but I don't get a proportional draw I should be getting. So sometimes I hit it light and because I follow through the stroke well and steady, the cueball draws back further than with more strength and less followthrough.
yeah. For me man its all in the brain. I can do it but its a mental habit to hit it harder on long draw shots. Many people have this problem naturally. Hard to overcome it, takes thousands of hours.
second drill just teaches stroke over power. That increases accuracy when you have to draw a long distance, so i would say the second drill is the money maker as far as those particular drills
I want to thank you for this first drill! i have a monster stroke after doing this for 1 month

Does the hardness of your cue tip effect draw, or any other spin for that matter
OneGreatGuy7 9 months ago
@OneGreatGuy7 The softer the tip the better it contacts the ball. So yes softer tips help with draw.

Just one question..
I have an amateur cue, those really cheap.
I can do back spin but its pretty hard, and dont look like you used too much strenght to make that backspin...

enwhylarka 3 years ago
I was using the head spot. But you could use pieces of chalk or shreds of paper.
