thank you so much:D i had many problems with breathing but i can do it much better now! im trying to do the riffs because my vocal tone is not that high, but sometimes i can do them and sometimes i can't, so can you give me an advice pleeaase:)?
@bblover8 It's called breath support! All muscles work in synergy! And that's one thing I don't agree with AussieVocalCoach about the abs. The major muscle in singing is the abdomen. The diaphragm only helps in inhalation, when it contracts. But on exhalation, which is how we sing, the abs contract and that's what you need to help support your voice!
Just stumbled upon your channel 2 days ago. Amazing. Have been doing the breathing excercises and it has really helped. A riff, I couldn´t sing in one breath is now singable and fuller in tone. Thanks!
I just found your channel. Amazing. Have been practicing the breathing excercises, and this one riff, I couldn´t do in one breath, is now possible and fuller in tone. Thanks so much!
Do you have any tips for someone who has asthma? Does that affect the way a person sings? I feel sometimes that when Im singing, it's hard for my to breathe in. Is that because Im not singing from my diaphragm like I think I am?
My sister suffers from asthma and is also a singer. You need to be careful with medications as there are some that contain steroids which can harm the voice. When you breathe in where do you feel expansion? In the chest or stomach?
If I concentrate I can feel it in my stomach but when Im not, its usually in my chest and thats when I I feel I cant keep breathing in. I also had the problem where after the first 5 seconds I felt like I was full bit I read your comment to breathe in slowly and that seemed to work out.
I have been trying to find someone to tell my if I am singing in my mixed or chest voice. If you get a chance, could you check out my video (the only one I have on here) and tell me. I know this is weird to ask, but, I am the lead singer of a bluegrass gospel group and want to grow as a singer. Please critique, I am a big girl:) I understand if you don't have time, but, if you can, I would appreciate it so much. I am struggling with this...
Yes you are probably inhaling too quick. When you take that first breath in try and slow it right down so that it is silent . The air should brush past your lips and nostrils gently.
Thank you so much!! :) You0re great!

Very helpful Ian, I find myself being already filled up when I have to continue inhaling with the last exercises, am I inhaling too quickly?
